The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In case anyone missed it, the Steam Summer Sale started today, so go forth and buy all the games you'll never have time to play!

Yeah, the ending left a lot to be desired, but considering how great the rest of the series was I try to just pretend bioware didn't massively fuck up at the very last second and enjoy the rest of the game. :chuckles:

Looney, have you ever played the KOTOR series? It's an older game and not nearly as in depth as ME, but I still enjoy playing through the 2 games once every year or so. Perhaps there is a big nostalgia factor for me since I played them when I was much younger, but KOTOR is right up there with ME in terms of my favorite RPG's.

I know a lot of people are huge fans of the Elder Scrolls series as well, though I never really got into them myself.

A while back I used google to try and find another series similar to ME and KOTOR came up as a game people suggested a lot. I would play it but being an older game the graphics have really stopped me from ever giving it a try. I might try and just tough it out for an hour or two though, I bet I'd like it once I got past how old it looked and got in the game a little bit.

Hey guys anybody played murdered soul suspect? Is it worth a look at all?

Haha, I just logged on to post about it after playing it for about two and a half hours between last night and tonight. I have to say that I am enjoying it so far. It's basically an adventure game big on exploration and thoroughly going through environments to find clues. Thus far it hasn't been too difficult, but the story is interesting and makes me want to keep playing. The voice acting isn't great, but it isn't bad either. It just falls in the decent category. The game has great atmosphere and, while the graphics aren't cutting edge, the art style works really well.

Bottom line: I wouldn't pay full price for it (and didn't...used a 25% off coupon from Green Man in addition to the cheaper pre-order price), but if you can snag it for thirty or less it's probably worth a look if you're into adventure games and murder / serial killer mysteries.

I just can't get into it. Maybe I haven't given it enough of a chance but it's just kinda dull to me. I thought this game would be right in my wheelhouse too.

Finally got around to finishing Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Pros:
  • Pretty graphics. This is one of the first pseudo next-gen games, and it looks really good, especially on PC with everything maxed out.
  • Solid story and good voice acting. I didn't expect much from the story of a Wolfenstein game, and so was pleasantly surprised. It weaves a competent enough tale and the actors do a good job of selling it.
  • Great old-school gameplay. Playing this game feels like stepping fifteen years back in time to before Halo and Modern Warfare forever pussified shooters by adding regenerating health, which everyone (except Valve) immediately latched on to. You'll find health packs and you'll fucking like it, and if you can't find any you'll go into the last boss fight with twenty health like I did. You'll also carry as many weapons as you want, because real men don't limit themselves to two guns when there are thousands of Nazis to kill. This also makes the game a bit more fun strategically, as I regularly found myself using four or five different guns throughout a fight, utilizing the best one to take down a particularly strong enemy before swapping to something else to mow down a dozen grunts. A lot of enemies are also bullet sponges, which is another nod to shooters of the past.
  • Some modern touches, too. While the game definitely has an old-school feel, it also brings in some more modern ideas like a basic cover/leaning system (that works pretty well) and stealth gameplay that is surprisingly fun. Through a combination of the cover system, silent take-downs, throwing knives, and a silenced pistol, you can often get through entire segments without being spotted. You can also pick off generals, which prevents your enemies from calling in reinforcements if you are spotted.
  • Awesome level variety and art design. You spend time in London, Berlin, an island fortress, in a concentration camp, under the Atlantic ocean, in a submarine, and even on the moon (the exact line of dialogue is "I'm on the fucking moon"). While you do revisit a couple of locations near the end of the game, there is rarely a dull moment.
  • Single-player only! Seriously...not enough games these days are willing to leave out a tacked-on multi-player mode in favor of offering the best single-player campaign possible, and I have no doubt that this game was as polished as it is because they didn't waste their time on a multi-player offering that no one would really care about. Good call, developers! Also, this is pretty long for a shooter, more like Half-Life 2 in length than the shitty five-hour offerings the Halos and CoDs of the world give you.

Cons:
  • The tone is inconsistent. At times the story wants to be very serious, but then you spend the next hour fighting Nazi robots. It just waffles back and forth with seemingly no self-awareness. Given the ridiculous plot of the game (Nazis conquer the world with giant robots), it probably would have been better to stick with the less serious tone, not that the game doesn't occasionally pull off some nice serious moments.
  • Weapon variety. For a game that takes place in an alternate past where the Germans have conquered the world with advanced technology, most of the guns you use are pretty boring. Aside from an awesome laser you acquire in the second half of the game, there's not much that really stands out.
  • The ending. It's just very abrupt. You beat the final boss and then you receive less than a minute of cut-scene time to wrap up the game. For a game that had no problem with cut-scenes throughout, it just doesn't feel like enough. A big, bombastic game like this needs an action-packed, explosive finale. The boss fight was fun, but the lack of a satisfying ending afterward hurt. There was a similarly crappy cut-scene following an earlier boss battle too, but I overlooked it because the game still had plenty of miles left.

All in all, I'd give it an 8/10. Solid game. Worth playing. Plenty of fun to be had.

Replaying Far Cry 3 using nothing but the recurve bow on Master difficulty. It's actually pretty fucking fun this way.

Girlfriend bought me a PS4 which gets delivered tomorrow. I'm excited but I've been out of the gaming world for 4 years or so. She ordered it with MLB the show but I'm also looking for some action/FPS shit to play. I've learned from this forum that COD ghosts blows and mass effect sounds fun.

Suggestions?

Well, can't play Mass Effect on the PS4, so that's out.

If you used to like GTA type open world action games, Watch Dogs is pretty awesome. It's a lot like GTA, at least in the gameplay. Missions involve lots of shooting bad guys (although you can do a lot of them stealth-like if that's your thing) and car chases, all of which is made more interesting by the hacking feature. You can cause traffic lights to turn green, for example, to cause car accidents behind you that wreck cop cars.

Tomb Raider is another great action game. I wasn't expecting much, but it was really, really good. Great graphics, a solid story, and gameplay that puts previous entries in the series to shame. Note: I played the PC version of this game, so I'm not really sure what changes have been made on the PS4. I have to imagine it looks about the same, though.

Transistor and Child of Light are two downloadable games that are both really good if you're into artsy, RPG-style games. I haven't had much time to play either, but I really liked the first hour or so of both and they both got great reviews all around.

Wolfenstein is an awesome shooter if you don't care about multi-player. It's single-player only, and I outlined the pros and cons above. Again, I played the PC version, but I assume they are similar. According to Steam, it took me a little over ten hours to finish, although I did not collect absolutely everything.

Infamous: Second Son is another good action game. I think we have a topic for it, or else people have talked about it plenty in here.

I really liked Don't Starve on the PC too. It's a quirky little rogue-like style game. Permanent death, pretty difficult. The basic premise is that you get sent to this dangerous world by a sorcerer (for some reason) and you have to stay alive. You craft various fortifications and supplies, gather resources, and fight enemies. It's tough, but it's got a great art style and is really entertaining.

I am in the middle of Murdered: Soul Suspect right now (PC again) and am enjoying it. The graphics aren't great and I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it's an adventure game with a pretty interesting supernatural story.

That's all I got. Hope it helps.

Really considering grabbing Tomb Raider.

I bought and beat tomb raider for the 360 a little while back. Upset I didn't wait til I got my Xbox 1. Great game

Really considering grabbing Tomb Raider.

If you're referring to the series reboot, it is most certainly worth every penny.

Is Outlast and its DLC worth the money? Normally not my cup of tea but it looks fantastic and I haven't talked to a single person who didn't have the shit scared out of them at least a few times while playing it. Only downside is it sounds super short for a $30 price tag (DLC included).

What you need to do is buy the Last of Us Remastered coming out at the end of this month.

Get PS+ for some free indie games. Infamous Second Son is really fun and is fucking beautiful. If you can get Killzone cheap, its a fun but generic shooter with amazing graphics. Thats all i got, i dont play my PS4 much at all

Dead Nation Apocalypse was a free PS+ game and its fun arcade style 2 player local co-op, could be fun if you had a buddy that can get into it
