The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone looking forward to the My Career in WWE 2K15? After this year's NBA 2K15 My Career success, I think I may have to just pick this game up soley based on this game mode - seems awesome!

Got a couple of new games last week via Target's "Buy Two, Get One" sale. I also bought Sunset Overdrive (was going to get it from Target, but they were sold out) and Far Cry 4. I haven't had much time to spend with any of these games (that'll change this weekend, as I'm on call, which means I'll mostly be staying in), but here are some brief impressions...

Alien: Isolation (XBONE) - I played maybe the first hour and a half to two hours of this one and it is fantastic. I haven't yet made it to the part of the game where the alien starts stalking you (I've only actually seen the alien once), but even before that it's tense and beautiful with incredible sound design. You're constantly paranoid every time you hear a noise, and the game exploits this by throwing random (but fitting) sounds at you throughout the experience. I'm sure I'll be even more paranoid once the alien starts showing up randomly. The voice acting is solid and the lighting effects are fantastic.

Far Cry 4 (PC) - I'm a sucker for all things Himalayas and, as such, Far Cry 4 does not disappoint. I've only played the first hour or so, but the game is gorgeous. Pagan Min, the antagonist, is perfectly voiced and I look forward to more dealings with him in the future. Aside from that, it's basically Far Cry 3 in a prettier skin. Far Cry 3 was a great game, though, so I don't mind. I'm still really early in the game and haven't gotten to experience a lot of the new features, but auto-drive is the greatest idea ever. Basically you hit a button and the game keeps your car on the road en route to whatever destination you've selected on the map. This means you can focus on other things (like surveying the countryside or shooting at enemies) without having to also worry about staying on the road. It's such a brilliant idea for a game like this that I'm shocked no one has implemented it before.

Sunset Overdrive (XBONE) - As most of the reviews mentioned, this game takes a lot of getting used to. Basically every shooter/action game ever has dictated that you stay on the ground or find the best vantage point during combat. If you do that in this game, you will die almost immediately. It's very unique having to re-learn how to play when you first start up Sunset Overdrive, grinding rails, bouncing from car to car, and just generally trying to stay off the ground as much as possible like it's hot lava. I've only got a couple of the game's many guns right now, so it's hard to comment much on this one. It's fun so far, though.

nice reviews, Jack..gonna have to get on FC4 sometime soon.

I just got like a dozen new games and all i wanna do is play through BL2 again lol hopefully this weekend is filled with gaming for me

Yeah, me too. I've got a stack of games at home and I'm on call for work.

This is my queue right now:
Far Cry 4
Dragon Age: Inquisition (Amazon delivered it yesterday)
Sunset Overdrive
Alien: Isolation
Assassin's Creed: Unity
Shadow of Mordor

I do not have nearly enough time for all of those.

I think I'm picking up the Xbox one assassins creed bundle too. Wanna get another game also. Any suggestions? I was leaning towards 2k15 or madden 15 since I love sports games. I was also thinking about GTA v

I'm still hooked on Destiny, waiting for the Dark Below raid. I have Shadow of Mordor that is basically unplayed that I'll start soon.

I have games I'll be getting for Christmas, so luckily those two will hold my attention until then. Really looking forward to Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The new World of Warcraft expansion has been out for a week and it's amazing. If you ever played the game, I recommend giving it a try.

Bring on the mom's basement no life jokes and shit that accompany admitting to playing this game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition report...

I'm happy to report that this game is good like the first one, not shitty like the second one. The world is absolutely huge. I've only visited three areas so far and I think it's already larger than the world of the entire second game. Hell, the Hinterlands area alone is probably bigger than DA2, and the only other two areas I've been to are a small city that only contained two missions and Haven, a non-combat area where the Inquisition is headquartered (but is still pretty large). I haven't even been to any of the other open world areas, and I have at least three or four that I've unlocked so far.

I've played the game for eight to ten hours (thank you, boring on call weekend) and haven't even exhausted all the missions in the Hinterlands, which is the first open area of the game. I've been trying to finish everything there before moving on, and there's no shortage of things to do, nor is much of it boring. The game world is beautiful and there is just a ton of stuff to find and see. You're constantly unlocking more sidequests as you wonder around, which gives you further incentive to do so. The world also changes a bit as you complete quests. The center area of the Hinterlands, for example, becomes safer after you root out and eliminate the Templar and Apostate camps in the area. It's a cool feature that makes it feel like your actions in the game matter.

The gameplay is solid if not extraordinary. It feels a lot like the second game. The combat is primarily real time, although you can pause the action and issue commands if you're into that sort of thing. I mostly focus on just controlling my main character and letting the AI do their thing. They're mostly competent, and you can bring three with you at any given time. I just unlocked my fourth and fifth party members but haven't gotten around to bringing them with me yet. The original group was a little redundant, as three of us were ranged characters. I now have two more melee-focused characters to bring along with me, so that should balance things out a bit with my party selection.

The only real weakness in the game so far is the story. The writing and acting are fine, but the overall story is kind of generic and feels a lot like the one in Oblivion. Gates (or, in this case, holes) opening all across the land and only your character can close them. It just feels like pretty standard-issue fantasy fare, and I would have liked to have seen something a bit deeper and more interesting. Maybe it gets better, though. I've only just gotten started.

Ive been playing it a little bit and its great. I have a bunch of friends from high school and other buddies that play the game and we all have a guild. None of us had played in like five years really and we all resubscribd for this expansion. It felt really good playing with all them again. The social aspect of that game is what really makes it great in my opinion really good and I've always been a huge Warcraft fan.

Havent played a ton yet though because ive been busy, plan on ripping into it over thanksgiving break this week.

Not really afraid to admit that I don't have a life seen as I'm an engineering student and everybody knows it. Don't really have time to party so looks like videogames might be my escape for the next couple of years.

Also got DAI and Fc4 too. Will post impressions.

Hey guys just got an Xbox one that came with ac unity. I'm not a fan of assassin's creed. I'm thinking about selling it. I might pick up gta or nba 2k15.

DAI is really good. And Jack, you won't finish all of the Hinterlands the first time you're there. I have yet to even go to Val WTFever it is, just been doing Hinterlands. I'm only a lvl 7, and I've run across 2 rifts that I'm not strong enough to kill the enemies without getting slaughtered. Damn fire demons at one of the rifts in the woods, and whatever friggin mage demons that spawn at the rift near the horse farm. Blah. I suppose I need to leave the hinterlands and progress the story a bit, but I'm usually a completionist and don't try to move on until an entire area is cleared.

Yeah, I moved on and did the Fallow Mire, which is quite a bit smaller than the Hinterlands and only has a handful of stuff to do. I think I'll move on to the Storm Coast next and come back to the Hinterlands when I'm leveled up enough to kill that fucking dragon.

finally started up Tomb Raider, ultimate graphics with TressFx hnnnng

Yeah that game looked incredible on all max settings. I just wish they would have put a little more emphasis on puzzles, platforming, and exploration and a little less on constant firefights. It reminds me of Uncharted. Just too much shooting to the point where it starts to get a little ridiculous. It's a shame the sequel will be Xbone only. I'd definitely prefer the mouse and keyboard if they're going to have that much shooting.
