The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wasn't sure where to put this, but the first installment of the new GoT Telltale game is really good. Love how they created playable characters from an unknown house and incorporated them into the world we all nerd out over. Can't wait for the new episodes.

How much are the episodes? I just bought season 1 of The Walking Dead for $20 and if I like it I plan to give more Telltale games a shot.

I'm probably getting the Game of Thrones episodes just because I'm a huge fan. Is it better to buy them episode to episode or should I wait until they sell the whole season in a package? Is there usually a long wait in between episodes (a factor in deciding whether to wait until they're all released or not)?

I believe they're 4.99 or 5.99 an episode. That goes for all of the Telltale games (I have a PS4). The season pass usually saves you a few bucks, so I think all 6 episodes of GoT costs $25 for the pass. Well worth it in my opinion. There really isn't a scenario where I would buy a couple episodes and not want to finish it, so buying them separately never made sense to me.

They release a new episode every 2 months or so if I recall correctly (Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us).

EDIT: Misread what you wrote and thought you were comparing buying the episodes separately or pre-ordering. Similar to binge watching shows, I guess you may want to wait if the 2-month window is too long for you.

Yeah I think I'll wait so I can play them closer together. Thanks for the info.

On the PC the full season (six episodes, each of which are probably about two to three hours like every other Telltale episode) is thirty bucks. I haven't bought it yet but will be sometime soon. Probably next week.

With Telltale games I recommend just buying the whole season. Then you get the updates for free whenever they come out, and I trust them enough at this point to just jump right in. The first episode of Tales from the Borderlands was a lot of fun, The Walking Dead seasons were excellent, and The Wolf Among Us was fantastic too.

They do need to make a new graphics engine, though.

Are they worth a shit on iOS? I saw Walking Dead/GoT episodes on iOS in my app store, might load them to my iPad at some point if they aren't super buggy or something.

Yeah picked up both season 1 & 2 of TWD for $24 on xbox marketplace during black Friday best pick up i made games were awesome now to wait for season 3.

Should I get Far Cry or Dragons Age?

Excuse my ignorance but can someone explain this whole 'Telltale' business to me? Had no idea there was a GoT game until I read this and after doing some research, I'm sort of starting to get it.

So obviously the game games in 6 episode parts that all have to be bought online? Is it possible that hard copies ever get released at the end of the series to be purchased all in one go?

And I'm guessing I just have to search it on the Xbox One Marketplace to buy and download?

TellTale has a series/games based on several number of franchises. Almost always episodic (more than 1 episode anyways).

They have Back To the Future, the classic Sam and Max, the shitty Jurassic Park (not recommended), Tales of Monkey Island, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Puzzle Agent and Hector are both good and now they released Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones.

The games are really story-driven, have some quick time events and have generally a heavy choice-consequence structure. Great characters. They are really fantastic.

I don't know if they have them on retail, I have them on digital format. You can buy the complete season and as the rest of the episodes are released you get them on release date. Or you can wait for a sale, some months from now, with the complete pack.

I'd recommend definitely the Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us. Really wonderful games. Back To The Future is also very good. Haven't played the two newer ones.

I just bought the Walking Dead season 1 on disc on amazon for $20. They had season 2 also. I think they've been out awhile; I'm not sure how long after they're out before they become available on a compilation disc, but they do eventually it seems.

Okay so after understanding this whole Telltale business a little more, I ended up buying the first GoT yesterday and all I can say is: WOW! Who would've thought I'd be so captivated by a game that had such jerky animation and such basic graphics? The story was incredibly engaging, and I really felt pressured with each answer I had to give.

And without spoiling anything, for those who have played the first episode, how about that ending! Good God! If that wasn't GoT-esque I don't know what is.

A very pleasant 2 hours of my Sunday afternoon all up.

Yeah, Telltale has pretty much proven that good writing and voice acting go a long way toward drawing you into a game, graphics and mediocre gameplay be damned. I do wish they'd start bringing back puzzles, though, just to break up the monotony a bit. Puzzles were always a staple of adventure games back in the LucasArts golden age.

If you liked Game of Thrones, I'd definitely recommend The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead. The first episode of Tales from the Borderlands was solid too.

Ok, like I posted earlier, I have a shit ton of games on the docket that I haven't touched yet. I finally have a day off coming up soon. What should I play? Dragon Age, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed, Shadow of Mordor (finish it up), Destiny, something else that I probably own but am currently forgetting.

I think I'll buy them on my iPad at some point. You convinced me.
