The worst team in the league

Using PER to rank them

PG: Mo is 19th, Sessions 21st
SG: Gibson, 13, Parker not in top 50
SF: Moon 42nd, nobody else in top 50 (btw: iggy is 12th)
PF: Jamison 30
C: Hollins 19, Andy 21 - (and andy ranks higher at center than PF, the C position is pretty weak in the league)

JJ fell off the map - he was playing better than Bosh earlier this year. Better play from JJ and trade for an Iggy caliber talent and we're a solid playoff team. Brand is the #16 PF, include a trade Jamison for Brand and get even better, with top 15 to 20 players at every position and top 20is players off the bench. That's a solid team that's even better as players have hope of winning again.

By "solid playoff team" do you mean a team that will struggle to win 35 games?

I think this team can do much better. But its a good thing that they quit I guess. We get to draft high in the draft, hopefully get our franchise player, more young talent with the picks we aquire from couple of trades. We are set, OKC or close to it of the east. I like this better than being mediocre.

Are people seriously ranking players by PER?

It's not perfect, but I've yet to find a better stat to get a rough idea where players rank. PER does reasonably well except under-represents defense, thus a player like Andy would be a bit higher than PER would put him.

OKC was Seattle, that city lost their franchise when attendance plummeted while they were executing the OKC model.

And players like Mo and Jamison wouldn't be top 40.

They lost their franchise because they wouldn't build a new arena, not because attendance dropped.

PER should really only be used when comparing players of the same position, same role, and same winning/losing situation. Even then, it's hardly a good way to measure things. It rewards certain things too much and almost completely disregards defense.

Steph Curry has a higher PER than Rondo. . . (and 5th amongst PGs) PER rankings says there are 10 PGs better than Rondo and that Matt Barnes is a top 10 SF.

In actuality all PER does is give Hollinger and "analysts" a tool to judge players on since they can't keep up with the entire league, but it's hardly accurate.

I said a rough idea, PER undervalues assists, which makes CP3's PER doubly impressive.

I don't get what all the fuss is about. Before the season the majority of people wanted Gilbert to blow this up, get high lottery picks and do a total rebuild. Well, the team is forcing Gilbert's hand. They're headed for a high lottery pick even with the veterans still on the roster. If these guys are ready to give up on the season then so am I. Kyrie Irving here we come.

you do realize the league is talking about possible contraction, not a good time to be an awful team with plummeting attendance.

As for OKC, the sonics asked for a new arena when they had one of the worst teams with one of the lowest attendances in the league. Is there any wonder they didn't' get it?

Teams that would get contracted before the Cavaliers would:

Toronto
Milwaukee
Detroit
Minnesota
Memphis

There's probably a handful more as well.

The Cavaliers aren't going to be contracted.

I am pretty sure seattle lost its franchise because the owners wanted the city to help fund the building of a new stadium and they all had a massive falling out.

personally i think fans need to look at this losing streak and remind themselves that if we want a rebuild then this group losing will encourage gilbert to get on board by the trade deadline.

Yes, we are the worst team in the league, there is no doubt we will have the worst record in the league and people shouldn't get overly excited about the draft because we'll picking 4th and Grant will pick a bust...
