Thoughts from watching training camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You can't lift upper body with the surgery he had, not sure how people expected him to maintain his upper body weight.

Unless y'all just wanted him to get fat.

Yep, any serious injury to your shoulder and your lifting is put on hold, big time. I learned that the hard way when a 250 lb. man fell on my shoulder crowd surfing at Rock On The Range. I sustained a minor rotator cuff sprain but i couldn't lift comfortably for 4+ months until i received cortisone treatment. All that was comfortable was cardio and leg lifting but who got time fo dat?!?

What the hell are you talking about? Love has been more than a post player for years. It's part of his game, but certainly not "crucial to everything he does."

Point is we need him to be dangerous in the post as well. Him posing a danger to defenses both inside and out will give us a great advantage.

I agree that he needs to bulk up. I understand the situation, though.

The combination of his post game and the ability to step out for a 3 is what makes him a special player. The ability to body people up is what makes him a great rebounder, the rebounds feed his outlet passes, the ability to establish position inside gives us an inside-out game that he knows how to use because he is a great decisionmaker, he facilitates from the high post, he is great at drawing fouls inside and that is where a lot of his offensive efficiency comes from. If you turn him into a catch-and-shoot guy lurking around the 3 point line who can kind of guard 4s at an average level you are wasting a max contract. Thinking that Kevin Love has to be a 'quick' guy running with stretch 4s is just the wrong way to think about him.

Dude, who are you responding to? It's like you're having a conversation with yourself. Why would my post make you think I disagree with this? I was responding to your overly simplistic comments. If you would have written something like this the first time, maybe I wouldn't have responded that way.

But, regardless, others have CLEARLY pointed out that Love has been INJURED and bulking up during an injury makes ZERO sense.

Have you ever had a shoulder injury? Have you ever lifted? If you had, you would know that there is almost NO lifting or bulking that can be done when your shoulder is fucked up.

So do you expect him to gain muscle by eating and not working out? If so, how would you propose such a thing? Getting lean and making sure not to gain bad weight while injured was the smartest thing he could have done. I'm sure he'll put weight back on easily once he is cleared to "bulk" up again.

James looks like he has slimmed down in a good way. He looks bigger up top but absolutely skinny in the mid section. He looks like he is doing tony horton.

You want to know my observation from the "Real Training Camp" stuff? The Cavs practice facility is easily...easily the best in the NBA...I mean shit, Memphis' today looked liked a High School gym.

His post game is crucial to everything he does. He's not a perimeter player who happens to be able to guard 4s, you waste what makes him special if you use him that way.

Do you not think that 'skinny Love' can still abuse small ball 4's in the post? I'm not concerned about guys like Green guarding him down there at his current weight.

This is just a hunch, but I would bet it's to make himself a little quicker laterally. No matter what he does he's not ever going to be a rim protector - he plays position D around the basket, but he can improve his play on the pick and roll, by being quicker, which would allow him to stay in the game in the 4th quarter.

When I was doing the play type position stats on Thompson. Love's rankings kinda surprised me. I saw he had improved in some areas as the season wore on last season but how much was a real eye opener.

While the Spot up defense was mediocre( more frequently defended by guards and wings). every other Major play type, Love excelled at

Kevin love is being put as PF but he's really our SF

We have the best PF in the league

not defensively. possession percentage wise and play types defended. Lebron is right behind the guards in defending the pick and roll and high on defending spot up jumpers and low on defending post up plays.
Lebron is definitely a small forward on the court defensively during the regular season
