Timofey Mozgov Mancrush thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They need another body, especially for the first three months of the season. Being forced to overuse Varejao early risks injury, and I don't think there is a more vital cogfor the playoffs than a rested Varejao. All those young guys with fresh llegs don't need the Popovich treatment.

If a trade doesn't materialize now, and I do think one will, just sign an experienced healthy body and plan to make a trade at the deadline. We got Hawes for a freaking second rounder last deadline... we can wait for better quality.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind going after a guy like Steven Adams if he can't find playing time between Perkins, McGary, and Thabeet. The Utah guys would be appealing to a team that doesn't want to pay the luxury tax and they're close to it as they stand now.

Have you guys already forgotten the market changes when your team is nearly maxed out and trying to fill the last hole or two?

I wouldn't mind going after DeMarcus Cousins. The Jazz guys and a 2nd rounder maybe?

No way I give up a pick if we are throwing in our 3 expiring contracts.

I want him.

ehh. we passed on this guy when he was available last year and signed Clark and Jack. I am assuming we offered a 2018 first rounder? He would be a great fit on this team.
I wonder if the Memphis pick would do it? I kind would like to hold on to it though! I can see Memphis missing the playoffs and having that pick be in the 11-15 range.
I like thAT HE IS 28 and in his prime, he is perfect for where we are. Any indication that Denver is willing to deal him?

nope, in fact from what i'm reading a lot of Denver fans think he's gonna be their starter and that they would rather move McGee

Glad to see rumors from Woj finally connecting us to him. Has a good post game, good rim protection, a bit of a mid-range game, seems to be a pretty good cutter, played with Blatt, and would be the FIFTH option on offense. With Love out there to spread the floor, he can be in the paint crashing the glass for missed jumpers. Haven't really seen him run too many pick and rolls, so I'm not sure how good he is at that (keep in mind, I've only seen highlights).

I would look for him to play about 23-30 minutes a night, with Andy/Thompson taking the rest. This guy should match up well against the Splitters', Gortats', and Hibberts' (not that Indiana is too much of a threat at the moment) of the world while blocking shots from driving guards.

Now, can we actually acquire him? I would be willing to part with the Memphis pick (maybe one of our second rounders coming up as well), possibly Powell, and the Utah players for him. Will that be enough? Who knows.

Is he perfect? No. But he would be close to a perfect fit.

Man. Denver would be crazy to let him go. But I want him badly. He is awesome.

I can see where Mozgov would be pretty much the ideal solution, but I don't see Denver trading him before the season, especially not for what the Cavs have to offer. I could be wrong though, and the fact a trade hasn't happened since Woj first reported the Cavs' interest means nothing since the most likely trade package would involve Malcolm Thomas who can't be dealt till late September. I think you'd also need to wait till the Love trade is finalized.

However, if the Nuggets struggle this season and if McGee stays healthy and plays reasonably well and Nurkic shows promise, it certainly wouldn't be a stretch for them to trade him at the trade deadline. They also drafted Nikola Jokic this year in the second round, so they have a lot of young centers, and the fact Mozgov is already 28 sort of counts against him in Denver's situation. The Memphis pick is a decent asset, much better than a late first that would typically be available from a contending team.

That's why my strategy would be to sign/acquire a stop gap guy who could then be traded along with John Lucas for Mozgov, either at the deadline or before Lucas' salary becomes guaranteed in early January. Signing a 10 year vet like Brand or O'Neal would work (or Okafor if he is healthy, which I understand he may not be). Including Turiaf in the Love trade would also work. A 10 year vet minimum salary (or Turiaf) plus Lucas (whose salary is $1.6M) would allow you to trade for a guy making nearly $4.7M -- just enough to get Mozgov. If he isn't available, you could do the same deal for another center. Some center will be on the market.

Of course, if you are able to trade for Mozgov or some other suitable center before the season starts, that's fine too, but if you can't you need to have a contingency plan.

The quicker Denver realizes they need to tank, the better for them. Their team is not winning over 40 games. Mozgov is 28, should let him go for a first and start the re-build. Look at that roster. It's terrible.
