Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the reason people think GS will struggle in the playoffs is they live and die by the jump shot (which is the same rational about Atlanta). Come playoffs, it is very rare for a jump shooting team to win the whole thing sans an active big man. Hence the bolded piece is what is so important. It is crucial to have a big man who can post up and open up shooters beyond the 3pt line.
I understand the jump shot thing but these aren't ordinary jump shooters we are talking about. Probably the best shooting backcourt duo in the history of the league and they can also get to the basket. They make take a lot of jump shots but GS is also 3rd in the league in points in the paint. I just love how this team is built. You have players who can shoot, get to the basket, and play defense on the perimeter and paint. The key though defensively is Bogut being healthy and that's my concern.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I was just explaining the rationale, and from a historical perspective, it is justified.

Definitely agree with the rationalization there and think it definitely fits Atlanta but some may be overlooking everything GS can do on offense. As far as Atlanta is concerned they are no concern for me. I'm more worried about a healthy Toronto in the East. Now back to Mozgod.

Bogut has been one of the best rim protectors in the NBA when healthy, and Marrese Speights has been able to play as a featured offensive threat down low for the first time. I agree Golden State relies on jump shooting and going small, but they also have talent at 1-10 that is in their prime. When a team has three max players coming off the bench (Bogut, Lee, Iggy) that says a lot about their depth.

I'm actually really surprised a lot of you think the Warriors will struggle in the playoffs. I just don't see it as long as they stay healthy and they have a healthy Bogut come playoff team. Great offense and surprisingly good defense on every part of the floor.

Frankly, I think a lot of WC teams can and will struggle in the playoffs because the road is so hard to get through. San Antonio is struggling (for them), but their vet experience will come in handy when the playoffs arrive. OKC is just beginning their run and should climb the ladder and be dangerous. OKC, SA, GSW, LAC, Memphis, Portland, and Dallas - I could see any one of those teams getting hot and cutting a path through to the Finals.

That's either a huge advantage for the WC champ (trial by fire) or a negative (beaten up). The EC, as usual, doesn't measure up, though it's getting better. Atlanta is a paper tiger. I agree with the assessment that a healthy Toronto team is dangerous. I've never bought into the Bulls, healthy or no. The Wizards don't have the scoring muscle if they struggle to contain their opponents defensively. Above all that, the Cavs have done pretty well against them all (except ATL) before the two big trades.

I would feel most comfortable going forward if we can lure someone who can provide an interior presence when Mozgov sits (Jermaine O'Neal would be my #1 choice but think he's likely to return to GSW if he goes anywhere) and a true backup PG that we can trust to keep the ball moving (I like the idea of Farmar and think he would fit).

Mozgov is the Delonte West of big men... Not exceptional at any one thing, but pretty good at everything.

Next time I'm in a bar in Cleveland I'm ordering a Mozgov, and if they don't know what it is, we have a problem.

Such a perfect cocktail name for something something and chilled vodka.

"I'll have a Mozgov and please get the beautiful lady an appletini. You know, make my Mozgov a double. Check that, a double double Mozgov on the rocks. Thank you."

Cheers

The Mozgov Cocktail should be one part vodka and one part weird green Odwalla Superfood smoothie. You know what I'm talking about: that green sludge in a plastic jug they sell at Trader Joe's that is supposedly juice.

It's what Popeye would drink if he were Russian.
