Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Denver's a mess right now. Wouldn't be surprised if Mozgov just got lost in the shuffle.

It's more likely that Denver is looking at a lengthy rebuild and Mozgov is a 28-year-old who isn't a star. He's just not a fit for their future, especially with Nurkic playing well.

His motor and overall effort level is off the charts. He doesn't take plays off, he is laser focused on the ball. Very high bball IQ, great footwork, great hands, great anticipation of where the ball is going to be, great at spacing, setting picks, moving around and not becoming a stationary target to let the opposing defense off the hook. Keeps his hands high to contest anything that is put up around the basket, has incredible lateral quickness for his size and can actually position himself quickly to discourage the drive to the lane. His quickness and athleticism is the biggest draw for me.

Combined with his motor, his ability to make up ground on defense quickly and to charge to the basket to take advantage of lobs and offensive rebound attempts is incredible. He is extremely polished and just a flat out intelligent basketball player. This is a unique big man that works well with floor spacers and guys that have a knack for finding the open man. You just have to be completely giddy about his fit on this team.

I don't recall Moz playing at this level for Denver.
That smack off the glass he had last night on Bosh is one you usually see the more elite centers make.

I've yet to see a fresh brewed tees shirt I want more than that one.

Holy shit it's perfect.

BTW, I'm not surprised at all that this team has gotten so much better with Mozgov. Andy was good at what he did, but Blatt's team and primarily his offense was based around 4 out, 1 in offense. Andy, with all the great he was at pick and roll, isn't very good down low. I don't think I have to tell you just how bad Thompson is offensively in the block either.

With Mozgov, you have a big guy who wants to bang down low and score points. He's just as good at the pnr, but he's got above average feet and elite strength. Combine those two, the offense looks much more natural when he is in the game.

Defensively doesn't need to be covered, we all know what he does and how he changes the team there.

I don't agree that Moz is just a "role player". He is far too valuable. I would say he's at least the fourth most valuable Cav we have, and maybe the third most valuable. Keep in mind how new he is to this team, and how much better he will get as this team continues to gell. I think he's better than Jonas right now and, unlike Drummond, the Cavs can keep him in games late as he makes his foul shots.

He probably is still living out of his suitcase.

Just wait until he finds his comfort level.

Its really too bad we couldnt get him before Andy got hurt.

Imagine our front court..yeesh

I think he is the 3rd most important piece on our team. With a healthy James, Irving and Mozgov the Cavs should be in contention for a while. If the Cavs have to choose between giving Love a max deal or keeping Mozgov & Thompson, I hope they pick Mozgov/Thompson. I feel with the scoring abilities of James and Irving that what Mozgov brings is more important to this team than Love's offensive skills. I also think James could become the best stretch 4 in the NBA in 4 or 5 years. I think that makes signing a PF long term unnecessary.
If Gilbert can afford all of them even better. Love could be traded in a few years when James transitions to PF.
