Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
just seen fruitvale station last night. tristan looks like fruitvale station. it's like a year old movie... am i late on this one?

It's not that old, and isn't that guy's name Michael Jordan (also in The Wire)?

Yes. Michael B. Jordan. Unfortunately, the early release of Fruitvale Station has led to him missing out on more awards season buzz. You would think Harvey Weinstein would have been able to keep him a little more Oscar relevant.

Bringing it back to Tristan, it is interesting that in the 8-16 foot range - a range where he is rather good - he is especially good on the right side of the floor (52.94%! compared to 37.50% in the middle and 38.46% on the left side).

Forget about his offense.

He's not a good rim protector and that's a massive problem.

I've always been a bit confused about this. In college he was a dominant weak side shot blocker. Granted he was playing C and guys were much less athletic, but you'd think *some* of it would carry over. Now he doesn't even leave his feet and is a nonexistent paint protector.

Passes up another open 15-footer, dribbles into Pau for no reason at all. :banghead:

Mixed emotions after this one. TT fought as hard as anybody down the stretch. He also got the team some good, yet inefficient buckets when it seemed to need them. Although only 2/4, he did hit some clutch free throws at the end.

He has to shoot the fucking ball when he's wide open from 13 feet. It looks like he's thinking too hard as opposed to just letting it fly like he did earlier in the season and in training camp.

Until he at least shoots it to see whether or not it's a reliable shot, too many possessions are ending in awkward looks because the offense had already run its course for the 4 to get an open jumper either on the baseline or elbow. That's a good possession. It just can't be continued for no reason. That's where things got discombobulated.

He did a good job getting on the other bigs' nerves. He came up with a lot of big rebounds in the 4th quarter. He and Andy may be the best rebounding tandem in the NBA right now.

Shoot the damn jumper.

Out of all Cavs players to be trending on Twitter right now, why is it Tristan Thompson?

Shoot the damn jumper.

The form on his jumper, at least from the angles they showed tonight, looks like it has seriously regressed. The pull-up push shots look fine, but his jumper looks like it needs more time to be natural, not surprisingly. I know he needs to shoot it, just not sure I want to watch him shoot it.

That's exactly right. Thompson hasn't become the shooter he was sold as this summer. It's destroyed his potential growth this season.

There is no predictable growth pattern when you start shooting with a different hand. This is more of what I expected when it was announced, but the way he shot in training camp made it look like the transition was going to be easier (or miraculous). Looks like it will be awhile. He has a couple moves where he looks comfortable, and his energy helped the Cavs a lot tonight. But there's a long way to go in terms of a consistent shot.

On the plus side, he doesn't look uncomfortable at the FT line (even if he hasn't been as effective as it seemed he might be).

Once again, who cares about his offense?

We were sold a bill of goods on Thompson, and that was elite defender. And he is anything but an elite defender. He's a good positional defender one on one, but outside of that he lacks aggressiveness and awareness.

He's quickly becoming a strictly energy big. And he's forced to play huge minutes because everyone else is significantly worse.

Not a good scenario.

His defensive awareness off the ball is not great and that's why he doesn't get blocks. Not sure if that is something that he can improve over time or not.

Until he gets a consistent jumper, he is not a starting PF on a contending team.

Still can't help but love the guy though.
