Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He looks small out there. Crazy how he was supposedly athletic coming out of college yet he never blocks shots or can finish in traffic worth a damn

Sounds like you are hoping a young player on the team you are a fan of does not take the next step despite showing enough growth the past 2 years to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not hoping he doesn't take the next step. Dude I like Tristan as a 3rd big/energy garbage man. I think he could thrive there. He hasn't shown enough gowth to show that he can take the next step and be a threat offensively. He has shown that he works hard and he comes to play every night. He fits the role I'd like to se him play to a T (no pun) I praise TT when he produces it's just that I think he's i the wron role right now. I would love to bring TT off the bench and have him cause problems for the opposing team with his energy and hustle.

eFG% on jumpshots:

2011-12 28.3% (39% of his shot attempts)
2012-13 36.9% (46% of his shot attempts)
2013-14 43.3% (54% of his shot attempts)

To me it seems like more reps, and an increase in confidence is the likely recipe for success here. Maybe Thompson's shot does look mechanical, but honestly, who cares. Sounds like a Sidney Deane comment or something.

Even with the hand switch I never expected him to become some deadly threat from midrange, I'm just happy that he has a chance to make a shot from out there occasionally, and his FT shooting has improved as well (although it's regressed recently).

Just because Tristan doesn't become a lights out shooter or a star doesn't mean that his development is a failure or that he's not a useful player.

Definitely not and I don't think anyone is saying that...but a jumpshot takes him from 3rd big to viable starting PF on a contending team.

He's going to have to develop an elite trait if he wants to be a starting PF on a contending team.

The only argument is that maybe his rebounds are an elite talent, but he's not quite there yet.

some of you guys man........

Stop with the excuses for Tristan. It's clear as day they type of player he is. Here's a question. Why are we trying to develop Tristan offensively when we were told when he was drafted that his strength was his defense and his motor? We were told that Tristan was going to be an elite defender. Why are we trying to improve his offense when his defense isn't at a level that we were told it should be?

It's like some of you forgot that Tristan was a defense first guy. When he was drafted we all saw clear as day that he had no offensive talent at all, period.

They tried to justify the pick by saying he was going to be an elite defender and a great "human being" He was a wasted pick at #4. On draft night there was nobody waiting to her Tristans name called. Who had Tristan going #4? Did anybody really sit there and said boy we just drafted Kyrie now we need Tristan Thompson. Gosh the fact that he's on our team and he's a nice guy makes you guys so gullible. He's not that good. And what he does do well we already have a guy who's as good as it gets in the league doing it in Andy.

I mean what the fuck, we drafted Tristan and didn't even trade Andy. Now Andy when he's been healthy has outplayed Tristan hands down no questions asked. It's like the same arguement people make about the Jack signing. Why sign Jarrett Jack for 6m/yr to play backup PG if you're going to bring Dion off the bench.

Why the fuck did we draft Anthony Bennett if we drafted Tristan and we still had Andy?

Are you seriously asking why we're trying to develop TT's offense? Do you not want our players to be effective two-way players our something?

Tristans only 22, he's not even close to peaking. He's already a good 1-on-1 defender, which is a lot more than most NBA players under 25 can say. Give him more time learning MB's system and he will be an elite defender at the 4.

Wasted pick, give me a break. Look at some of the picks around TT, would you rather have Derrick Williams or Bismak Biyombo? Faried made an early impact but his game has leveled off recently.

Klay would have been a nice pick, and the Cavs tried to move up to draft him. Kawhi wouldn't have developed nearly as fast here than in SA, it's debatable if he'd have been a better pick. It's been said before, if you redrafted that class now TT would still be in the top 5. Hardly a wasted pick.

Jack filled our backup point guard need, and he's great insurance if kyrie goes down. Considering we were giving Donald Sloan heavy minutes a couple years ago I'm not going to complain about Jack.

And finally, why are you in such a rush to trade Andy? Guy is our only legit option at center and on a favorable contract. He's too injury prone to have as much value to other teams as he does to the cavs.

Like offensive rebounding, for example?

AV and TT kills some flow in the offense especially when both of them are together and none of them wants to shoot the ball. Too mamy possessions where one of them receives the ball then fakes then drive then just kicks the ball to the perimeter again.

While he's certainly very good at offensive rebounding, I wouldn't exactly call it elite right now. But that's simply semantics.

You must have some pretty high standards then, because he's currently 5th in the league in offensive rebounds and was 2nd last year.

He needs to bring more to the table to be starting. I think Zeller brings more to the table as a starter than TT.

Rebounding should probably be coupled with rim pritecting ability or even some offensive reliability. Neither of those will result to Kris Humphries or Reggie Evans. Standing alone, rebounders are not very valuable.

A few weeks ago Tristan was leading the league in contested rebound %, a much stronger indicator of his elite rebounding prowess.
