Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We gave Andy's 32+ year old corpse $10 million a year just this year.

How do you ask TT to take a dollar less than that?

The Andy contract set the absolute floor for any TT extension, and it is one of many reasons it was a stupid contract to give.

I agree, the Andy cotract is the absolute worst and I don't understand it at all.

But regardless of his contract, you have to ask yourself:
What has TT done in his NBA career to demand more money than AV?
Yes I know, he still is very young and can improve and all and that's valuable.
But I mean, Andy is more or less a proven veteran in the NBA. He did somewhat deserve a bit of a big contract (although not as high as this one of course).

So in the end you have to understand that in the NBA, you get paid for what you did more than for what you'll probably do in the future.

TT for a more offensive capable 4 like a Brandon Bass or Carl Landry type then sign Dalembert to round out the big rotation.

pretty much.

the problem with thompson is twofold -

1. his game.

2. his contract demands next summer when payroll could skyrocket.

don't see the kings moving landry but i would inquire about bringing j.j. hickson back.
similar games, but hickson's better and most importanty - signed to a very reasonable deal for next season.

Does "LeBron Letter" protection still exist after the Dion trade?

I think the Kings would absolutely move Landry this summer. They are proven to want to make big splashes. They've re-upped Gay and have Cousins there long term. I think they would send us Landry and Sessions for Haywoods contract in the summer. The Kings would then waive Haywood and have 15+ millions or more to chase Greg Monroe, Dragic, or Rondo.

They might also do Jason Thompson and Sessions for Haywood.

In either of those scenarios we could gain depth(backup PG and 4th big) without having to attach a draft pick.

I'd be shocked if the Kings didn't try to do just that. Unloading Landry/or Thompson + Sessions for a non guaranteed contract like Haywood or into a cap space team like Philly with 2nd rounders attached.

Our lineup for next year at that point

1 Kyrie
2 Shumpert
3 LeBron
4 Love
5 Mozgov
6 JR
7 Tristan
8 Landry
9 Miller
10 Sessions
11. Andy(back by midseason)
12. Harris
13. 1st round pick
14. Tax payer MLE signee
15 ??

wonder what this team could get for Tristan+Haywood contract.

Still don't understand why he turned down the money we offered for his contract extension.
Look at Moz. He is literally better in every single statistic and TT still wants more than twice(!) the money. Thats just laughable...
Gotta use the Moz contract as some leverage to sign TT for less money in the off season.
lol the moz contract isn't going to leverage thompson at all because 1) the lebron relationship and 2) moz is currently paid FAR below market value, which will change after next season when it's time for a new contract.

he turned down the money because he knows - with paul's guidance too, probably - that gilbert likely does not have the balls to stand up to lebron and move tristan even though he should. as a result, he doesn't just get paid, he gets to squeeze another $3-4M out of the team per year.

Does "LeBron Letter" protection still exist after the Dion trade?
"lebron letter" protection never existed.

"lebron's-bff-as-your-agent" protection likely does still exist, though.

not that much.

the haywood contract alone isn't worth much - only to get an overpaid, bad contract (which the cavs do not need). adding a guy about to be paid a brand new, big contract is not much incentive.

Tristan reminds me of Stanley playing basketball in the office...

Sadly this isn't just letter protection. This is agent protection.

What bothers me most is his lack of improvement. I feel like I'm watching the same player that I watched his rookie year.

Been available for 2x as many games as Andy since he's been in the league? :conf (11):

the only thing that does is make the team a hell of a lot older. I say keep TT and and hopefully he doesn't demand a lot of money he's a good role player.

Rich Paul gets paid whether or not Tristan signs with the Cavs or not. Same with Ben McLemore and Norris Cole, or any of Klutch's clients. It's a business.

The thing I've never understood is how LBJ can have stake in it. Jordan wasn't allowed to keep his control of the Wizards when he came back since it was a conflict of interest.

I fail to see how the same concept doesn't apply in the case of Klutch or LRMR and LBJ since he's an active player who can funnel active players to either outfit. Just seems like a weird double standard.

That or I missed something in the way those two entities are set up.

kings' GM has the hots for landry ever since their days in golden state.

he was injured a long time, finally came back, and is playing well for them.

he's not going anywhere.
don't hold your breath.

obviously? my point was his association with paul/lebron very likely provides him with an additional layer of protection from the cavs playing hardball re: his impending extension/trade.

pretty sure it was never said that lebron has an official stake in klutch. it's obviously a conflict of interest, yes, but the nba can't exactly prevent its players from having friends with sports-related businesses. same reason jay-z could start his agency - he has all sorts of connections and relationships with elite athletes, but they're explicitly off-the-court. kevin durant doesn't own any part of roc nation's sports arm.

re: lrmr, it doesn't seem like they even actively pursue other nba players. or, if they do, they don't do a very good job. they've been linked to a couple guys over the past like 5 years, but iirc nobody has actually signed with them. so there isn't really a conflict of interest there (and that may be precisely why they have shied away from fully pursuing nba players; lebron actually does have a stake in this firm).
