Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sign Bismarck Biyambo for like 1/4 of the price. How is Tristan any different than JJ Hickson??
Thompson had an OREB% this season better than Hickson has ever posted.

Hickson's lowest turnover percentage season is higher than TT's worst.

Somehow, Hickson's career USG% is higher than any TT season's.

Other than that and other things, nothing

Man... lots of people down on Tristan in this thread. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I have any idea what is going on in negotiations. All I know is that he's still extremely young, he is getting better every year and we have no avenue of replacing what he brings to this team in the short or longterm.

I have no problem with the organization not being a pushover in negotiations and trying to work the best contract possible, but ultimately he needs to be re-signed.

I think the animosity is coming from the fact that no team would value Thompson this highly besides us. His deal is a direct product of the LeBron tax, and nobody likes to be a bystander to nepotism. Yes he's a young, improving player and yes, we have no way to replace him, but that doesn't mean we give in to every one of LeBron's demands. That's how you end up disregarding a year's worth of scouting only to draft Shabazz Napier off of a tweet.

TT at $90 mill is pure insanity. If he can find a team to give him that kind of money, I'd rather explore what we could potentially bring back in an S&T with him and Haywood. I just can't see any other team in the league offering him anything close to that if that's what he's truly asking for. He's an outstanding offensive rebounder, an average defender, and a general non-factor on offense, aside from his rebounds and his oops/put-backs.

If we were able to sign guy like West and then see if we could bring back a young big to develop and a scorer off the bench we're likely a better team. Trying to imagine who might actually want TT or who would pay him that sort of money, it's really difficult for me to find anyone to fit that bill.

You jump to conclusions. We don't know whether Lebron has anything to do with this at all. For all we know Lebron may be helping Griffin to bring TT to terms.

1. We can't S&T being as far over the cap as we are.

2. Tristan is one of the best bigs in the league at switching onto perimeter players in P&R situations, which is absolutely huge in today's NBA as we just watched throughout the NBA playoffs. And his ability to protect the rim has improved quite a bit over the last few months.

3. Tristan is still just 24. He is a part of this team's longterm core and, even if he signs for five years, $90 million, his contract will not look bad a couple years from now when the cap skyrockets.

4. His value on the market is almost completely insignificant at this stage. What matters is how important he is to our team.

5. He is one of the most durable and well conditioned players in the entire league.

6. Tristan isn't going anywhere and I think we all know it.

The vice president of the NBAPA working with Griffin to get TT to accept the teams terms? For some reason I highly doubt that.

We can S&T our own players, but we can't acquire any players via S&T due to our cap situation.

As to your other points. I know how old TT is. I know that the cap goes up significantly soon. I know he's durable and everything else. $90 mill is a lot even with the cap going up. Market value isn't irrelevant. That's ridiculous. At most he gets $12-$14 mill from another team on the open market. If he got $14 mill I'd be shocked. Obviously he's extremely valuable to this team, but in all honesty Moz is more valuable. Is he getting a Max next year as well? This would kind of set that precedence.

I didn't realize that was the stipulation, but I'll take your word for it.

His market value is irrelevant unless we could acquire a player on the market of similar or greater production and one that fills in the hole left by Tristan on the roster, both in the short and longterm. So, let's stop talking in generalities. Who is that going to be, specifically?

It would obviously have to be a S&T, since just letting him walk would do nothing for us in terms of our ability to pluck someone off of the free agent market.

Which is the team we'd deal with and would deal with us, and who is the player that we'd be getting back to make up for the loss of Tristan? It's easy to say, "That's too much ... let's get rid of him."

Finding a viable alternative is much more difficult.

Can't he just be happy he's gonna be a multi millionaire? I know theres like 10 million in difference and it is stil huge, but he is still being paid big bucks.

Who knows what is even happening right now behind the scenes. I'm not jumping to any conclusions. LeBron hasn't inked his name on a contract yet either. That doesn't mean he and the front office are at an impasse.

Marc Gasol is still unsigned.

I'm not concerned.

Didnt see this posted so here it goes.

Report: LeBron won't start talks with Cavaliers until they settle Tristan Thompson's deal. http://thesco.re1IXuwxK

Writers running with Windhorst's report, I see. This is what they do. It's the same reason it just became accepted that Love was going to visit the Lakers, despite only the completely unreliable Chris Broussard reporting as much.

And Windhorst has reached the Broussard level over the last year or so. I wouldn't believe a word he reports... but apparently other reporters do... because they need something to write about.
