Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's what the Cavs must be thinking too, in regards of their talks with Tristan. They can't just overpay him.

Because with Mozgov, they can't afford to lose at all. They traded 2 first round picks for him, and he is critical to what we do. Losing him, we take a clear step back.

Mozgov won't come cheap, and the Cavs have to be in the mindset of paying him a lot of money. If we lose Mozgov, and have nothing to replace him with (which I have no idea who we'd replace him with if that happens), we probably can't compete for a title.

If we lose Tristan, I don't think he deeply affects our ability to still compete for a title.

Its not what we traded for him. We traded nothing for Lebron, but he is most valuable, traded a scrap heap for the pick that ended up being Irving.

Moz's value is he is 7'1, decently athletic, decent offensive game and that makes him a rare commodity in today's game. He wasnt fully appreciated in the regular season, but come playoff style of basketball, Moz becomes infinitely more important to the team success than Tristan.

Looks to me like Tristan has determined he does not want to be a bench player behind Love and Mozgov for the next five years (players on this team who watched him close games all year while they were available to play); and is willing to go the QO route to make it happen.

If the Cavs want him as a bench player behind these two, they are going to have to dig deep to satisfy him. I don't think they should or will; he'll likely get more to start on a lesser team. So, the Cavs will be on the lookout for his replacement with the TPE next season or after. So be it.

What I want to know is, who are these 3 to 5 teams who will pay Tristan 100 million dollar contracts (this is what Windhorst is claiming)? Which teams would realistically be willing to pay a lunch pail type guy that sort of money?

LeBron did NOT like being the villain. He did not wear the black hat easily.

Do you think he would risk a public relations gaffe of that size on a team he had plenty (if not all) of the say in, that was CLEARLY a title contender with the current cast AND Coach?

I don't think at all he would but i still think a lot of fans are scared. That's all i was trying to say, is that we are scared of what could happen, even if it is unlikely...

I'm 99.9% sure that he will stay, as is everyone else, but that doesn't make me not scared, or maybe its just me

Call up Rich Paul, see if he'll agree to a trade with Phoenix (where he's been successful getting clients paid) and give me Morris back.

I was just getting ready to post about this. I'm sure TT would love to play with Bledsoe. Morris would be close to his brother. Win/win!

Could the Suns offer TT a contract? We could let him walk, and use the TPE to get Morris back in return, or something like that.

I seriously doubt the Suns would want him at his asking price. They were barely able to accommodate Bledsoe last year, when they refused to pay him a max contract. Pay Tristan one? No way, no one wants Tristan for his asking price.

Their past dealings with Rich Paul, they, much like us, would probably prefer to avoid doing business with his clients in the future..

Nevermind. My bad. I see you said the contract would be toxic. Carry on.

TT is toxic now? Interesting.

We can sign-and-trade Thompson, but nobody is going to want a toxic max contract for a role player.

He's priced himself out of the market.

The notion that "nobody else would give a max contract to Tristan Thompson" may be true this year when only Portland and Philly have the room. But next year twenty teams will have max cap room. Hell even a well built team like the Jazz will be 20 million UNDER THE SALARY FLOOR and essentially forced to give money to somebody. On top of that, there won't be that many young (Thompson will be just 25) big men floating around in next years draft class. The demand for players will outweigh the supply by so much that Thompson probably wouldn't even need to have a particularly great year - as long as he avoids getting severely injured, there will be a market for him. So make no mistake, if the Cavs don't lock him up, next year some team will throw a max or near max deal at Thompson. This is just the reality of the NBA's impending cap explosion.

Suns probably wouldn't pay Thompson either. But hey, they wanna dump Morris so here is at least something in return. Morris might not work out for us, but then at least he's not working out to the tune of 8 million a year instead of 18 million a year.
