Truth And Rumors (trade deadline talk)

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

There are a few guys who come to mind who will be available. Al Jefferson/Paul Millsap/Josh Smith/Kendrick Perkins/Nene come to mind immediately. Out of those, Millsap and Smith are the only seamless fits with Al Jefferson to a lesser extent.

Some sleepers who may get moved due to contract situations or sheer unhappiness to me are: Demarcus Cousins (due for an extension next year, bad situation) and Al Horford (does he eventually ask out?) Those are 2 guys who far and away put the Cavs over the top.
I agree about Smith and Millsap, but I would rate Nene over Jefferson because of his D.

I doubt Sacramento will let DMC go, but who knows?
Everything about the Kings/Maloofs is one big question-mark at the moment.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

The bolded is a curious phrase. Firstly, at no point in his career has Josh Smith ever been any variety of superstar. Secondly, it sounds like you're saying that he has declined when in fact he posted career bests in PPG, Rebound Rate, Assist Percentage, and PER. Having said that, I definitely agree that Josh Smith would be a great addition to the team. I'm not really sure what sort of assets we would or should be looking to give up for him right now, but thankfully, the deadline is a long ways away.

Fair enough STAT. You got me, but PPG, Rebound Rate, Assists, and PER all sound like things we could definitely use. He's a player that relishes the ability to run the floor and play defense. With Andy, Zo, and Smith you have a really fucking versatile defense.

Don't think trading their best player (Cousins) for Anderson Varejao is going to keep the team in the City longer. But I'm all for it!

Also, I think the Cavs FO is going to keep to this "Team Chemistry" approach. Draft/Bring in quality guys that can be taught. Guys that can listen. Also, guys that want to work together and make each other better with good attitudes.

a trade for cousins would happen in the off season or next trade deadline if he refuses to sign like jennings i think. He has asked for a trade before and i hope he sees that BS roster they have and does it again. But if we did trade AV this year we would have more than enough to get him. If we did an okc trade or timberwolves trade we would be loaded with assists at positioons they would need

if we did okc trade this year we could offer them: Our 2013 top 5 pick, the raptors lottery pick, pj3, TT, and Zeller
if we did the timberwolves trade: our top 5 pick, MN pick (most likely lottery), TT, Zeller, Dwill

I would not necessarily be opposed to that.

I'd much rather have Smith. Much more versatile, can guard 2-5. Rudy Gay is a small forward/guard. Smith is closer to a 4 but he can also play the 3. We already have Gee who can guard 1-3 with Smith back there with Andy our defense would be great. Plus Smith really knows how to defend and rebound at a high level. Rudy Gay is a better scorer but his defense is a mixed bag. Smith is definitely the better defender and rebounder which is what we desperately need. Wouldn't be opposed to Gay, but Smith would be my preferred pick up.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

For josh smith I'd give up both Miami picks (including the lakers swap), our 2014 1st, and walton (to make the salaries work).

They would get three late 1st picks (ours would probably end up somewhere 18-22 with Smith) and would save about 4-5 million.

Edit: Id even throw in the Sactown pick/an orlando 2nd rounder.

There's no denying that Josh Smith would be a great skill upgrade at the 4, but his attitude scares me.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

We don't need another 4...we have Thompson, he's not doing that bad of a job. Or are you guys wanting Smith at the Small Forward?

Yeah...we can't have someone with an attitude in the locker room. It would totally kill the team chemistry.

You can't really compare Gee to Rudy Gay, though. Gay is a dynamic scorer who can create his own shot and also create for others. Gee is a role player who should be coming off the bench. What this team really needs is a dynamic small forward who can put the ball in the hoop consistently, and Gay has averaged right around 19 points per game each of the past five years.

I'm not saying we should trade for him, but I think he'd fit pretty well on this team and would really give us a high-powered offense.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

If the right player becomes available, I think the Cavs will be aggressive in pursuing them. I don't think Josh Smith is the right player. The talent is there, but I'm not sure he is a player you will ever find on a great team. His character concerns, selfishness, and ego are not what we are looking for. I think Al Horford is a player that the Cavs would love to obtain, but that is not realistic. However, we still have a few months until the deadline and much can happen.

Ultimately I expect the Cavs to continue building through the draft. This draft matches the Cavs needs very well. It has many big man prospects and many SF prospects. I think the Cavs ride the tank for one more year and then all bets are off.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

Outside of kyrie and dion, id give up just about anything for Cousins. Given their financial setup, and uncertain future. They could be a seller. Cap relief and picks would do it. However, i think theyre gonna let evans walk so i doubt they give up on cousins. Id rather get him than just about anyone.

As for gay, he would be nice but i doubt they give him up bc theres not to many sts better than him. The good tjing is his contract may be up before we need to extend dion. So we would have kyries max, and then assume 10 min for both gay and dion. Not had bc im not sure gay will get a 2nd max unless memphis keeps him and feels obligated to overpay again. P

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

Josh Smith doesn't strike me as someone with a bad attitude, from what I've seen the dude is a team player. The only negative thing I have seen or heard about him is that he really likes to shoot the 3 ball and as far as I know he cut that out a couple years ago. I like his attitude to be honest, he's got a surlyness about him, would not mind having him. Don't know if we have the right pieces to trade for him either and I don't think he puts us over the top, sooo, doubt we get him via trade.
