Two high school football players intentionally hit ref

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can safely say there is no single thing someone could SAY to me OR my wife and kid that would lead to me fighting them. The first thought in my mind wouldn't even be whether I could take the guy. It would be a flash of all of the horrible outcomes of me fighting him, including getting sued, getting jumped by his friends, getting shot, getting severely injured or dying, etc. There would be one positive outcome... Me beating the guy up. And that doesn't get me far enough to take the other risks. And this also wouldn't impress my wife as we've been through the macho defense bullshit before and she absolutely hated it. She's too rational for it.

I'd simply remove myself, wife and/or kid from the situation.

I understand why others would fight under the same circumstances I wouldn't. But that's your lives to lead and consequences to deal with. Whatever.

With that said, I'd have a very difficult time not beating the shit out of someone if they intentionally hurt my wife in any sense. But then I have the self- defense excuse at my hands.

If anyone intentionally hurt my son in any serious manner ie molestation, rape, etc I would find a way to kill them without getting caught. And I do say that with 100% confidence. I would prefer to be able to torture them for an extended period of time, but killing someone while looking in their eyes would work.

This falls in line with how I feel too.

Some guy gropes / assaults your wife at work, and gets away with it and you kick his ass is in no way self-defense.

Self-defense means you or your families life was in some significant degree of immediate danger.

Your wife pointing someone out and then you kicking his ass isn't that.

I'm not saying I disagree with you, I'm just saying that isn't self-defense. The only difference between you and I is that you reserve violence for violent acts; which is fine. But I don't think any of that is really self-defense.

On another topic entirely, just taking the temperature...

Does anyone ever have fantasies (I guess that's the word) of tracking down people who have committed serious wrongs (rape, molestation, murder of innocents, etc) and torturing them?

Like I've gotten as far as specific things I'd do to torture someone.

No. Karma.

Would you make a serious effort to avenge a molestation/rape/killing of a loved one if you found out about it 5-10 years later or found 100% proof of the person who did it?

I believe in self defense. I would viciously kill someone if needed if they attempted to hurt me or another.

I don't agree with vengeful behavior.

In situation #1, I'd sue the guy and the company if the company allowed it. Probably wouldn't even see the guy.

I will never be in a situation where my wife points a guy out for me to kick his ass. I wouldn't have married a woman who would put me in that situation.

I'm talking about a situation where self-defense really would be feasible.

Really?

That's interesting...

I'd ask what you mean by this but, personally, I'm not keen on discussing such hypothetical scenarios dealing with people's wives or children, so I'll leave it at that.

I just wanna know if the ref said the racial slur or not...

If not, and these kids lied about it in an attempt to justify their actions...that's just as bad as if he did say it.

IMO.

@gourimoko did you just automatically assume the racial slur accusations were true?

I had this same argument with Gouri awhile back. Not trying to take a side again here but he made me feel like I was somehow less of a man because I told him words weren't worth going to jail, or getting my ass kicked or seriously injured, or worse. Obviously every situation is different. I can't say I disagree that if the guy made racist comments he "got what was coming to him" but the players still shouldn't have done it.

If we're OK with the spoken word inciting physical violence....we're in a world of trouble.

Lots of growing up to do.

Hypothetical... You have words with someone, pick a reason... You talk junk to each other and its escalating. He steps up to you, nose to nose, and calls you a bitch.

What's your next move?

lol. I actually had this happen to me at work (I'm a manager part time at a retail store in Columbus, no names please) a while back. He stepped behind the counter I was at that moment because I wouldn't let him use the phone and literally stepped up to me, just as you described, nose to nose and told me not to touch him (I had grabbed the phone out of his hand).

I laughed and said what are you gonna do tough guy? And he walked away. *shrug* It was some punk kid. Now I know it's different because I was at work and could be fired for doing anything unless it is in self defense.

I have no moral/ethical issue with beating someone's ass. I've only been in like....3 fights in my entire life though. I just don't find words worth enacting violence over, at least in no situation I have encountered yet. It's not that I don't want to, sometimes. But bodily harm to myself is not worth it.

Does this make sense?

Hope my shoes are faster than his while I make my exist to the door.

As my pappy used to say: "He who runs away lives to run another day."

Interesting....now I KNOW gouri is thinkin' that's some hoe-type shit lol.

But seriously, I'm not even entering the point of "junk talking".
