Virtual reality

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you're just using a 1070, you can bifurcate the PCIe slot using a riser card and split it into 2 x8 slots. You can then run a PCIe extension cable from one of the slots mount the card directly on the chasis server-style, so long as it's insulated.

I've done this kind of setup in very small mini-ITX builds several times. Yes, your graphics card will fall back to PCIe 3.1 x8, but that actually shouldn't result in more than a 2-3% drop in frame rates, at the most (in most workloads)

doesn't seem like it would work with this

Well, then yeah the riser approach wouldn't work here; but ... I think the latest Zotac machines have Thunderbolt 3, right?

If so, you could just use a Thunderbolt to PCIe adapter and run the PCIe card inside a portable expansion chassis like a Sonnet case.

No thunderbikt, just usb type C. I wanted the wireless too. I don’t realize to needed a slot. I guess I thought it connected to HDMI or DisplayPort.

Apparently the Vive Pro is going to be $799, which is $100 more than the current Vive + Deluxe Audio Strap. I haven't seen how much the headset by itself will cost (for people who already have a Vive).

@gourimoko

Is that with the wireless adapter?

I wonder what impact Ready Player One will have on the number of people who buy VR systems. I'd be shocked if the Vive Pro isn't out before that comes out.

What sort of content is available?

What sort of content is available?

Lots of great content. My current favorites are

Rec Room (it's free and has paintball, laser tag, and other stuff).

Star Trek Bridge Crew is great too, but I prefer ones that keep you moving. I'm playing to get exercise.

The goggles are certainly better than anything available today

haptic gloves - these are close
https://vrgluv.com

haptic suit - also close (likely expensive)
https://teslasuit.io/teslasuit/

omnidirectional treadmill - also close, but really expensive - $10k ballpark
http://www.infinadeck.com

There are cheaper alternatives, but they aren't really treadmills, they have special shoes so your feet slide.

So for the most part the hardware in RP1 is reasonably close to being available. The software is where it's well above what is available today. Not only does it link all of the hardware together, but the world is both massive and massively multiplayer. Today's hardware and software can't do it at the scale they had.

Man this shit is so cool .

There is a vr center nearby .. 27$ an hour. I have to check it out.
