W Nuggets 85 Cavaliers 94

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Since most of this has probably already been mentioned, I'll make my take brief:

What worked:

Lebron scaling back his game and shifting his mentality from "scorer" to "playmaker". If he realizes everynight that a playmaker can also score, he'll begin to scratch his offensive/floor game potential.

Coach Brown making a simple adjustment to pack the paint and thwart Carmello Anthony's inside game. Brown diagnosed the Nuggets weakness (inside scoring...no Camby) and took that part of the game away. Nice move on his part.

Donyell Marshall playing like a power forward (12 boards and a block) with the ability to step out and hit the 3 (2-4).

D. Jones' money ball. Don't get to excited though, he's still the same guy. Strange that Karl didn't attempt to exploit DJ's defense. Mistake.

What didn't work:

Damon Jones NOT looking like a preening schmo with all of his posing and histronics.

Eric Snow attempting at least 8 shots. The Cavs won the game, but the opposition was able to harrass other players due to Snow's apparent indifference on the offensive end.

Larry's jumper. Either Hughes or James needs to be this team's primary point guard/playmaker.

A win against Miami and this team will get the confidence needed to put themselves back into higher reaches of the conference.

Mabey you forgot that Earl Watson hit like 4 threes.

For those of you calling for Jones to start, consider this. Admittedly I have not seen the majority of the Cavs games, being only able to watch the national broadcasts, but this was the first time I've seen him actually give us more than he gave up. Normally, the best you can hope for is that he's hot, dropping threes, and giving you as much as he's giving up on the other end. Tonight that didn't happen, but consider the team we were playing. The nuggets are the worst three point shooting team in the league, and as such, we were packing in the paint all night. This made Jones inability to stay with his man largely a non-factor. He could leave them open on the perimeter without worrying about the long ball (accept for a few times where they nailed it), and if they blew by him to the inside there were a number of other defenders already there to help.

Jones is a nice fit whenever 1. he is hot, and 2. the opponants can't shoot deep shots. If either one of those isn't happening he's at best a wash. He shouldn't be starting.

Yeah, but a hot NBA player is going to do that from time to time. What the Nuggs didn't exploit was DJ's inablility to keep penetration out of the paint. Karl may not have attacked Jones in this regard since he really had no one that could finish over Z and Gooden inside with any type of consistency. Beating the Cavs from the perimeter was the only way they were going to win that game I guess.

What are you rambling about NOW ?

Sit down NUT, this is idiocy....

Go Hawks :chuckles:

Damon Jones is a lock down defender...

Both can be. Both are similar players, having similar playing styles. It's good to split up the possessions and mix it up, as Larry is also a great penetrator.

I just don't get this. We already have the solution. We know that Damon Jones is bad at preventing penetration. We pack the paint to solve it. Yes, they're a poor outside shooting team, so perhaps this is a bad example. However, we can make more adjustments by watching shooters on better shooting teams.

My point is that Damon Jones can provide good offense filling an immediate need, and his defensive shortcomings can be compensated for in a defensive scheme where the paint players come to help when penetration occurs. It may happen all the time, and adjustments can be made from there.

And if Earl Boykins played... then he'd blow by everyone, and you must compensate for that, not point a finger at the sole defender that can't keep up with him. Because nobody would. Andre Miller blew by a bunch of people.. Eric Snow included. Watson was on fire from long range, he'll have those nights.

It will keep your bigs in foul trouble... Especially "foul prone 11"

If you put Damon Jones on the floor with Drew Gooden I am :runs:
