LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Curious what people think about this quote.

I think it's a crock of shit. It's common knowledge that he made no real effort to recruit players to Cleveland during his first stint here, even when management asked him for help.

Just chalk this up to LeBron continuing to say the right things, even if they're total bullshit.

To be a little more fair to LeBron, I'm not sure the team really had much financial flexibility to work with thanks to Ferry's yearly mediocre trades for mediocre players.

I'll give him credit, even in the midst of spewing some bullshit he's flashing rings in front of the league and daring them to join.

At the end of the day, if this guy doesn't leave we never even dream of this team. That's a fact.

Bullshit.

Edit (to be fair) - not taking the maximum term extension coupled with the lack of effort in recruiting potential free agent signings was a giant neon sign saying "Do NOT sign long term here, unless you want to ball with Manny Harris for the last three years of your deal."

for example today at work we had a townhall

my boss's, boss's, boss's boss "we know things are tough, but we are pretty sure if we try X things will work out, because we know that hasnt been tried before"
most of the people there "ah yes, that does make sense"
...

my boss "sir, we tried that 2 years ago and it failed miserably"
co-worker to me "well at least the idea sounded good"

wait, I thought Delonte said he was asked about playing for the Cavs by LeBron. I was surprised to hear that but it seems like Bron did recruit a few guys his first stint in Cleveland.

For those who didn't think LeBron tried to recruit, here are a few examples:

The Raptors and Cavaliers have worked out a deal that would send Bosh to Cleveland, but the power forward is not interested in playing there, according to an ESPN.com report. The Cavaliers appear the favorite to bring back their favorite son, but James has been unable to convince Bosh to join him.

The report states, “Both James and Bosh are aware that such a trade is possible, and James has tried to recruit Bosh to the Cavaliers several times in the past few weeks, according to sources.

“But right now, Bosh remains cold to the idea of playing in Cleveland. … Although Bosh wants to play with James, he wants to do it in Chicago, Miami or New Jersey"

The Cleveland Cavaliers got some bad news followed by some potentially terrific news on Sunday. In a last-ditch effort to recruit Trevor Ariza away from the Houston Rockets, LeBron James told Ariza he would remain with the Cavaliers past 2010, according to a person close to Ariza.

Even that wasn't enough to get Ariza, who verbally committed to join the Rockets last Thursday, to change his mind and go to Cleveland.

But the Cavaliers will gladly settle for the consolation prize; if indeed James' statement to Ariza was more than an empty sales pitch.

"Trevor asked LeBron if he would be in Cleveland after next season," the source said. "And LeBron said, 'I'll be there. Of course, I'll be there.'"

Just a couple instances where it didn't work out. I wouldn't say he was an active recruiter, but he did try.

The difference in first time and now is now LeBron is a winner and an ultimate pro by forgiving or whatever the letter. First time he was fun to play with but looked like a guy who never been able translate season success into the poatseason. Even tough he tried to recruit players just wouldn't want to come Cavs. By a Windorst article(This is home for LeBron James) in the summer of 2010, he contacted to Allen, Ariza, Bosh and even Wade to come and play in Cleveland but neither of them wanted that time. Not in Cleveland they said quote the article. The reason is probably our shitty frontcourt moves which locked us and our instability as an organization that time. These two are no longer considered to be true; both Griff and Blatt are highly respected in leaguewise and we can proud our frontcourt movements which Griff always tries to stay flexibile going forward. Now there's no obstacle for Cavs to be a free agent destination.
So it's meaningless to say he didn't play any role in recruiting before.

Do people honestly still believe that Bosh rumor? LeBron, Wade, and Bosh very clearly planned to play in Miami years before they actually signed there. Why else would they have signed the identical three year extensions instead of max deals while Miami conveniently cleared their books entirely?

They discussed playing together, but it wasn't a 100% set in stone plan, and it wasn't guaranteed it would be in Miami. It has been discussed several times.

And I'm not 100% sure I'm going to take a massive dump after eating take out Chinese. Both have about the same level of certainty.

The deal was iced when Riley got him to change to #6. That was what? December?

Yeah...that's probably the moment he chose Miami. I think the entire plan was in the works when they signed those extensions. I do agree that they probably hadn't decided on Miami yet at that point, but it was pretty convenient that Riley started cleaning house when he had a top five NBA player in his prime and should have been building around him rather than demolishing. It's almost as if Wade told him to do it...

That number had nothing to do with anything... Am I missing something? Why would he have to file a number change to change teams. On a new team he could pick a new number regardless.

I think it was more indicative of Riley getting into his head than anything else.
