So Long, James Jones

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think Alex Kirk's two minutes of playing time have anything to do with James Jones or Mike Miller.
Yes, they do because if an undrafted rookie who has proven nothing can get 2 minutes, one of the guys we brought in to be a contributor off the bench should get more than ZERO in this blowout game. Not saying we shouldn't play Kirk. I'm saying Jones should play too.

Kirk plays an entirely different position. A position shared by the starter who missed tonight's game.

James Jones was brought here to impact the locker room. He's an end of the bench guy and injury insurance.

The end of blowouts is when you play your young talent. Harris fits that bill. He also has been in a shooting slump that extended minutes can break.

In 2008-2009, JJ Hickson and Darnell Jackson played a lot of minutes in those situations even though Joe Smith was ahead of them on the depth chart.

The lengths some of you guys will go to bitch about this team is just ridiculous.

You're wrong. He was brought here to actually PLAY too, even if it's limited time. Lebron said last year he thought Jones deserved more minutes and he was good in his limited time. He currently has 15 minutes on the ENTIRE season which is unacceptable considering how bad our bench production has been, and the fact that in the minutes we've actually played him, he's actually hit his shots.

I think Jones has a role after the all star break. I think as the season winds down Harris and cherry and maybe delly will lose minutes for mike and James to get into game shape ready for the playoffs. Jones I main use is going small with lebron at the 4. Don't think we'll see that much until the playoffs

Big spark provided tonight off the bench. He's a flat out assassin from long range, and his effort was there on the defensive end as well.

As long as you keep his PT down, I think he could be very effective for 6-10 minutes per night.

Guy definitely earned minutes. I love Blatt because when a player does this he doesnt ignore it. Mike Brown would get this game from Jones and then not play him for a month. Its crazy

Well, I don't know about that. He didn't play Mike any meaningful minutes yesterday after having such a good game before that. And I only think JJ played because Mike was hurt.

Jones is just automatic. He can blow games open and it spreads the court big time.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get some minutes. His team D is fine IMO.

I don't care if he's "bad" at defense, his 3 point shooting is just too good to keep on the bench in favor of...anyone else on our bench.

Great stuff from Lloyd:

8. James Jones should get a lot of credit for tonight. Jones played 15 minutes tonight after playing 15 minutes all season. He made his first two shots (both 3-pointers of course) and scored eight points to infuse a little life into a second unit that needed it since Mike Miller was out with a concussion. Miller, incidentally, had already sent a congratulatory text to Jones by the time he got back to the locker room after the game. Miller remained in New York overnight with a concussion.

9. This is the fourth consecutive season that Jones’ playing time has steadily dwindled. He was a key rotation piece in Miami his first year there during the 2010-11 season, but then he has appeared in 51, 38 and 20 games each of the last three years. He’s on pace to appear in about 20 games this season.

10. But instead of complaining about a diminished role, Jones has overhauled his game and mindset to embrace it and thrive in it. He shows up to practice and takes shots cold without really warming up, since that’s his role in games. He shows up to practice and tries to be efficient, making a high number of shots on a low number of attempts. He said he prefers not to know when he’s going in games because he always wants to prepare the same way. So before Friday’s game, Blatt just warned all of the bench players to be ready since Miller was out.

11. “It was hard at first when you’re a rotation guy, but as you get older you realize being efficient is more important than just logging a heavy amount of minutes and playing time,” Jones said. “I take pride in being able to do something that’s very tough for most people to do.”

12. Jones’ impact on this Cavs team goes far beyond the 30 minutes he has played. He is incredibly intelligent, he’s a true professional and he approaches the job the right way. Jones was one of the first veterans to walk into the Cavs locker room and cut out some of the bad habits, such as guys eating or stretching during film sessions.

Better d than I thought he was capable of. I don't mind him getting a look now and then to spread the floor. The second three he hit was a tough shot.

I'm usually much against the usage of zone but having to mitigate Miller and Jones's lack of foot speed has shown some really good things on the team defense when the zone is called.

Kinda can't wait until they start switching out of the zone into man like Blatt's other teams.

What I particularly love about Blatt is it seems like he knows his players' weaknesses on D. Notice when Jones came in tonight, he immediately went to the zone (he's done the same with Miller as well).

I really like Jones, its spectacular having a guy with his shooting ability able to come in cold and get buckets
