Kareem Hunt: One Pissed Off Runner!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A quick break from the morality debate, because I want to address some earlier posts...

Wow. I don’t hate it. How are they going to split touches between he and Chubb? Hunt is an elite return man tho.

Just another weapon on Special Teams, in the backfield running or on the outside receiving.

From a football perspective, how the hell are people pissed about this? Hue isn’t coaching anymore. More weapons the better. He can return kicks/punts. I trust this offensive staff. And for the contract, Christ that’s an absolute steal

You guys know this is Kareem Hunt and not Tyreek Hill, right? Because Kareem Hunt never returned a single kick or punt with the Chiefs. Just want to make sure everyone knows who this is :chuckle:

Yeah I made that mistake. I got them mixed up.

Good. Ban them all.

Opens up the debate then (which I don't want to further muck this thread up with) of whether it is better for society to cut these guys off of the one thing in life that they're good at.

If you fuck up once, and of course, this is a huge fuck-up by Hunt (and not the only time he has fucked up either, but I'm talking in the grand scheme of things here), and your entire livelihood is taken away from you because of it, the odds of you going and fucking up again are pretty damn high.

There's been studies on it, not necessarily from a professional athlete perspective because lifetime bans aren't extremely common across any of the sports, but fully taking away somebody's livelihood because of a screw up tends to not be as effective in terms of the betterment of society over forcing them into rehabilitation and other forms of treatment to try to prevent the whole thing from happening again.

Touchy subject and open for debate of course, but research would argue that there are likely better alternatives than just banning Hunt, Peterson, Mixon, etc.

Can’t deny how strong he is in nickel packages though.

Yeah, an exclamation point suggests that it’s something to celebrate. Also, you’re cool with a joke about the Browns needing a kicker? I’m sure you would be giggling if Hunt had assaulted a woman you knew or cared about.

You are applying your moral stance that someone who commits a violent act does not deserve rehabilitation. As a public policy, I personally find it tremendously flawed. What do you suggest we as a society do to some man who struck a woman? Do we lock them up permanently? Do we put them on welfare? Because under your suggested policy, you have chosen he is unemployable from this point on in the profession he has been trained to participate in.

I am not laughing at the situation and suggesting I am just because I didn't delete a post immediately is an ignorant accusation towards staff. We provide a report option, nobody including you chose to excercise that option. I personally found the "joke" not to be a "joke" at all.

I also found my joke about the Amazon gift card timely, appropriate, amusing, and an important break from the intensity of some posters intense need to control the moral high ground.

In short, I don't agree with the joke that offended you and I don't agree with you flying off the handle either. Both suck for discourse.

Nice straw man, but I don’t believe in locking away anyone “permanently” unless it’s murder. I think before he’s able to be handed a million dollar contract, maybe he should serve jail time that any other individual would be sentenced to if they aren’t a millionaire.

Tyreek Hill is an asshole too, far worse than Hunt in my opinion, but imagine that dude streaking down the field with Baker throwing bombs to him.

That's the kind of receiver that I think would be perfect for Baker and the current composition of this team. Hopefully Callaway can turn into something like that, although he'll never be as fast as Hill.

I welcomed you to present your suggested plan for someone who commits a violent act because you suggested "ban em all" as an option instead of status quo. Ban them all from which types of employment? If you are targeting athletics only, that goes back to what Stark mentioned. You have successfully created a system where athletes are trained to channel aggression through a game, then taken away that channel for their aggression. The NFL is providing rehabilitation instead, and it is a path chosen over the former flawed path: ignore the problem and then sweep the problem under the rug.

Additionally, your syllogism is a mess. The NFL isn't the court of law. If Hunt committed a crime that warrants jail time, he will go to jail with Rae Curruth and the corpse of Aaron Hernandez. The NFL isn't an arm of the judicial system and private companies, no matter the public esteem, shouldn't be a part of the judicial system.

Do I really have to explain how there’s a different legal standard for ordinary people and those with money and power? Regarding my ban them all comment, here’s my proposal: First offense for domestic violence or assault against women would result in being suspended for an entire season. The second offense would result in being banned for life by the league. Hopefully, that’s specific enough. Also, if the NFL is the only thing saving someone from going down the “former flawed path” of beating up women, than that individual needs rehabilitation far more intense than Roger Goodell can provide.

Just watched the video.

Damn. Did she end up in the hospital? Massive blows

I don’t feel like it behooves the NFL to function as a disciplinary substitute for judicial inadequacies. Are we to bestow mandated policies on all private corporations which dictate how they handle hirings/disciplines/terminations of their employees when they detect an applicant or current employee has committed — or is suspected of — a crime which would be deemed as a moral infraction?

To be honest, I wish the NFL would just be transparent about its indifference. If the public feels so strongly about players’ right to continue employment in the NFL, seize or greatly lessen consumption to effectuate the change. I might catch serious shit for that but it’s just an initial thought; I’m not addressing snyone’s argument.

For players who commit violent offenses, I'd subject them to the following:

1. Mandatory counseling/anger management/psychological eval for furtherance of an NFL career

2. League mandated suspension and career-long probationary period, resulting in escalating suspensions or banishment for other instances.

3. Percentage of future earnings will be donated to related charity, a figure which the team which signs/retains said player must match by 100%

I like this a lot. The best way to try to come back from doing something shitty like this is donating a lot of your time (and money) to a charity that helps fight the thing you did.

If Hunt was smart, he'd go out of his way to help out battered women causes and the like, and make sure he's photographed a lot while doing it. Image is a lot these days.
