Welcome Marquese Chriss

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Drew Gooden seems to be a really nice dude and have bball skills & athletic skills... But remember him looking like a space cadet on the court a lot of times...

Chriss seems to be more athletic than Gooden, hopefully he can develop into a backup big with Cavs, otherwise he might not get another gig in the NBA...
Lebron once made the comment that he played with a few NBA players that didnt understand the basics of basketball. Gooden was the 1st one that came to mind. His game was purely based on his talent. Had nothing in between the ears.

I liked Goober. I think he did his best for Lebron unlike some on that squad.. not saying he was not limited though..but I think Chriss may have a similar career, for different reasons. But there are numerous teams that will give you a second rounder for a drew Gooden player

I think Chris is playing well enough to earn a contract. If he keeps this up I think he gets minutes ahead of zizic..2 reasons

We have no intention of trading zizic and he would negatively affect the tank..

We have every intention of trading Chris's. If he plays well for the balance, he helps the tank but might be good enough for us to sign, then trade when we are ready to exit the tank..

He literally doesn't move his feet playing d. He swipes at the ball. His talent and springs are undeniable, but his defense looks like a 2nd grader. I am seeing why people have given up on him. His awareness in certain areas is very good, and in others it is like a blank slate. Infuriating

I am not disagreeing with you. I dont think he is a good long term solution for us. That said. It makes sense to give him minutes during the tank because he does not win but he may look talented enough to get a contract and be a useful asset.. I might make a similar argument about blossingame. These guys get shots with shitty teams, because with minutes they might improve their value, which good teams cannot afford to do.. there is no doubt he has the physical tools, and that alone is enough to get someone to take a flyer.. if we were planning to trade zizic, we would be playing him, but I think we are happy with his progress and plan to hang on to him.

If he didn't have flaws of course we would never have gotten him as a throw in.

His body is really narrow too, his screens are not good.

Chriss is one of those guys that is low risk, high reward that you have to try out when you're in the place where the Cavs are.

He's only 21. He's only played basketball for six years or so. There's a chance, not a great one, that the right coach could get through to him and he could be a good rotational player at some point. There's also a chance he might not be.

But he's shown enough at the NBA level to be intriguing and the Cavs got his Bird Rights as well.

I think they try to sign him for a fairly low, inexpensive deal for two years with a three year option. I'm talking in the $3-4M per year range max per year.

If he's a big that is athletic and has some ability to shoot from a long range, he may have some value to someone in trade at that low number if other aspects don't develop. He's looked better given time with the Cavs compared to his 6.5mpg averages in Houston. He had ALOT of DNPs there - and that's understandable considering Houston is in the hunt. He wouldn't have gotten minutes the past four years in Cleveland either.

He wanted a chance to play. He gets it in Cleveland. Let's see if he can grow and if he wants to stick with the org and a "prove it" deal. Hopefully we can get the right coaching staff in place and he can grow. And, if not, the contract would be far from a back breaker.

There are a lot of guys that don't find their game until 22-23. Maybe we develop him right and get lucky. Maybe we don't.

But it was a move worth making. The more low risk, high reward moves you make, the more likely one of them eventually pans out.

Paying him a very low salary is a pretty big stick and maybe a carrot that could motivate him. There are rumors he doesn't work very hard. If he realizes this is basically his last chance, could be a cool time to flip him for something else we need.

Have to see what happens. Apparently Watson played favorites with him in year 1 - it's been said that Watson coddled him. So during his first taste of the NBA as a 19 year old he had a coach that sheltered him, handed him a starting job without any real competition, and likely filled his head with nonsense about how great he could be (because Watson talked about that to local media quite a bit).

I have a feeling Watson getting canned so quickly last year was a huge shock and a major dose of reality he was not ready for. He regressed and was never really given a chance in Houston.

Before Watson got fired, Chriss had a reputation as a hard worker in Phoenix. He and Bender are both referred to in various Suns reports as hard workers and good teammates.

Maybe firing Watson so quickly sabotaged that development. Maybe Watson handled him with kid gloves a bit too much.

It's hard to judge a player too harshly when they've had three head coaches in three years. Our guys are going to have three in about a year very shortly.

But a talent like Chriss sometimes just needs to be paired with the right coach. Finding that person is paramount for the Cavs. Jerry Stackhouse, Chris Finch, Chris Fleming, and others are good prospects at HC.

See what happens, but I'd guess Koby hopes to keep him at a low salary and try to develop him for the Cavs or for trade.

Really sounds like a win-win situation for the Cavs. Particularly now that we're tanking to hopefully secure a good lottery pick; this is the perfect time to hang flyers on players to see what they can do. And at worse, if he is trade bait, I have much more faith in Koby's ability to make the best of it, after that Rodney Hood trade.

It bears pointing out that this guy could also be named Chriss Marquese.

And he’d suck just as much.

Question for the board, who do you take for a bench player, Chriss or Derrick Williams?

I thought Williams played well. Thought he would have made sense last year with no wings.

Chriss is worse IMO

but them stats bruh? 11ppg 6rpg 52% fg 60% from thrizzle? in a little over 20 mizzle per gizzle?

I disagree with worse. I would argue similar talent levels at different positions. Williams was a serviceable SF/PF for us. Chriss has shown in three games to be a decent stretch big. His defense has been lacking which is sad Chriss showed much promise of a shot blocker his first 2 years in PHX.

Williams is out of the league likely for good now. Even after we move on from Chriss he will get more chances if he shows the rest of the way he can be a consistent threat from deep. If Chriss continues to hit over a three per game for us at a consistent clip (40 percent) someone else will surely give him a chance.
