Luscious Harris, David Wesley, and now Mike Miller. Cleveland where role playing veteran shooters go to die

I've go to admit, i am disappoined in the beginning of his career as a Cavalier. I really thought his season would mirror more of what he did in Memphis. All of that being stated....i am happy we have him on our roster. As many of you stated and recalled, he ended up being huge the Heat both times in the playoffs. (the second season after not being in the rotation)

I am happy to see Joe Harris step up though, as nice positive to Millers early struggles.

Mike Miller is worth what we're paying for his likely positive impact on the development of Joe Harris. Not sure there's a better guy that has garnered more respect and loyalty from playing alongside superstars than Miller. Great glue guy, hard working, and steps up in the big moments. I think we just need to give him time to carve out a role. I think he still has something left in the tank.

Mike Miller will have at least 1 enormously important game this postseason, and the signing will have been worth it.

He looks done, his defense was really bad. Seems like you really can't afford to leave him in there.

No lateral movement left in those old legs. Glad to have him around the team though- the shooting at least, will never die.

It appears at this point that Miller was solely brought in for his locker room presence. He is typically the biggest cheerleader on the bench. We haven't heard a peep out of him about his minutes b/c he must know he can't impact games right now. IMO, he is a great mentor figure for the young guys and will help them "buy-in" to the concept of winning basketball.

As far as the post-season, when those lights might be too bright for a Delly or Harris off the bench, i hope Miller's true value will show. I still can't believe his game has dropped off this much in only a matter of months. I think its more a matter of being in shape vs. entering the twilight of his career....time will tell.

On one play, it looked like he actually crouched down to make sure the shooter had the best possible view of the basket.

Not saying he's tanking. Just that his defense is so awful that he's constantly out of position and doing goofy things trying to make up for it.

To be fair, the entire team had issues with being out of position last night. I remember Joe Harris gave up the same corner three on like three plays in a row to the same guy because he kept getting caught over-helping. I'm not sure whether this is a scheme issue or if Harris was just being a dumb rookie, but I was screaming at the TV about it. :chuckle:

I'm not going to over-interpret a 6-7 start, and I was in favor of the Miller signing this summer, though I acknowledged there were some ominous signs in his record/statline from last season...Miller still has time to show he is worth his salary.

But if the only reason he and Jones and Amundson were brought in was to be role models, well, my preference would have been for guys who can actually still play and contribute. These great role models haven't prevented a slow start. They certainly haven't done anything on the court to help. And now people are complaining about the weak bench. Well, your bench can be role models (or valuable contracts like Haywood), but that doesn't mean they are necessarily players. At least Marion has shown he can still contribute at a high level, in addition to whatever he is doing as a role model.

Now the Cavs admittedly were operating at a disadvantage filling out their roster since they had to wait for LeBron to make his announcement by which time the free agent market was already well advanced. But there were still younger players out there who ended up signing for the minimum. Off the top of my head, I am thinking of Aminu, Ed Davis, and Ellington. Were these guys great role models? Some weren't, and none were "champions." But at least we wouldn't be wondering if they were still NBA players, and each has had and continues to have success in the NBA as a "role" player -- Davis as a rim protector and rebounder, Aminu as a perimeter defender and rebounder, and Ellington as a shooter. Sound like attributes people are saying this team needs? I'm still really confused why these three players in particular were so undervalued.

Mike Miller ran with the starters for the whole practice today.

miller starting makes sense in nba 2k as defense is not really a consideration. Offensively it gives us floor balance and a willing passer, in fact probably one of the best passing lineups in the league. I might be a way to see if its worth making a trade to bring in a similar style of player, or see what mike can do to prevent us from having to

i've seen other people (Fedor among them) suggest that Miller should start for Marion and i just don't see it. don't get me wrong i would love to have another floor spacer in the lineup for Marion (he needs tons of space to get a 3 off) but Miller might very well be the worst perimeter defender on the roster. imo he would do more harm than good, i hope to be wrong
