Got to like blatts guts. He's been working mike into practice probably for a good 10 days or so but he knows to not mess with a winner. Mike will be there ready to step it up when needed, hes done it so many times before.

Just so much good stuff from Jason Lloyd this weekend that I can't keep up.

Any idea why Miller stinks so much and what the coaching staff plans on doing to fix it? @sdubich

Miller’s situation is strange. He can’t get consistent rotation minutes, yet the Cavs have contemplated starting him (in part to help get him on the floor consistently). Although David Blatt denied it the other night, the Cavs felt Miller showed up to camp out of shape and has been behind ever since. He has only made three 3-pointers all season and is shooting 28 percent on 3-pointers. This is still a guy who played in all 82 games last season and shot 46 percent on 3-pointers — the second-highest mark of his career. He can still play. The Cavs just need to find a role for him.

If Miller is out of shape, he shouldn't play. He looks slow out there. He is also the last guy to complain about minutes so i don't understand the rush to get him on the court.

Miller's impact will be felt in the playoffs, not in the regular season.

I posted this in the Varejao thread a couple weeks ago when everyone was writing him off...

This goes for Mike Miller too, but Andy wasn't in the greatest shape when the season began. This happens to older guys often. This was Andy's first summer as a married man and he vacationed more than he worked out. The month long World Cup being in Brazil didn't help. :chuckle:

Do I think Andy was overpaid? Probably a little. But, the fact that the last year is only partially guaranteed makes it very tradable next year even if his legs should fall off. So I don't see this contract being a major burden to the Cavs.

Andy will play his way into shape, as will Mike Miller. They will both be major contributors in the playoffs as long as they are healthy.

So, yes, Mike came in out of shape. Another thing that hurt him(and the team) was going on the road for 10 days right out of the gates after the opener. But now we have had almost a 3 week stretch where we've been at home with the exception of the Washington game...that has been HUGE!!! We have been getting in a lot of practices which has been great for the team. Guys like Andy and Mike have also been able to get in a lot of extra conditioning. Mike stays after practice and puts in a ton of extra cardio. His shot is ridiculous when he is practicing. So i firmly believe that once he gets his legs and wind back, he'll be fine...everyone down there knows this. They are winning now without him, so they are going to let him ride the pine a little more. They are going to give these older guys any breaks they can so they aren't worn down at the end of the season...Andy probably could have played the other night.

Rumors of Mike and Andy's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Barring injury, they'll be huge factors come playoff time.

I don't think Andy's game has declined too much, I just don't like him starting next to Love, because he seems to be the primary screener on most pick and rolls, when it would benefit the team and Love individually more if they pushed Love into being the primary screener. I could be off base, and maybe stats disprove that, just what it looks like to me.

The wrong thread for this, but Andy is leading the conference in FG%. The way they are using him is working.

I'm not saying it's not working for him individually. Its going to work with almost any big screening with LeBron. I'm just saying it opens more avenues and opportunities if they're being done with Kevin Love, which is obvious.

I have gotta say that really bugs me. What else does a professional athlete have to do than to work out. The last time Varejo got a big fat contract courtesy of his agent Feighan he also showed up out of shape. Miller looks dowy and Lequit went on this so called diet and lost muscle mass. All very strange.

it's still the wrong thread, but you are overlooking the spacing issues, which are contributing to Andy leading the conference in FG%

They got millions of $$$$ to spend. That takes a lot of time. And eating.

But seriously, guys need time to let their body heal after a long season and sometimes that means fewer workouts. And when you go from burning 8,000 calories a day during the grind to only burning 3,000 calories a day on a beach, you'll can pack on weight really fast if you don't change your eating habits.

Nothing strange about it, really. They only have 3 months off a year. They need time to rest and more importantly time to heal, both physically and mentally...down time is important...especially when you are on the wrong side of 30. They also have lives outside of basketball. Player's in their 30's, especially one's with kids, have a lot of commitments that have to be taken care of outside of basketball that all get pushed to summer. They each have businesses and investments outside of basketball. Lebron and Mike each have 3 kids...lebron had one right before the season started. Wives and kids want to go on vacations and visit families and friends too. Between Andy, Lebron and Mike, they went to 6-7 weddings this summer.

They aren't perfect. They are also use to it being very easy to stay in shape or to get back into shape quickly...unfortunately it gets harder each year. It's not the end of the world. It gave us a chance to try some different things and get a look at guys like Joe Harris. All that matters is how healthy and in shape everyone is in April. It's a long season. Personally, i'm glad we started slow. It lowered the bar and erased some unreasonable expectations flying around.

Part of me thinks everyone knows Miller is out of shape. Until he gets in shape his PT will be limited, and moreover, the Cavs will get to look at guys like Harris, Cherry, Price, WAITERS, etc. and see who this team should keep long-term. I'm not worried about MM. Either he'll get in shape and become a positive contributor or he'll ride the season on the bench as a valuable veteran.
