I agree, but implying that Delly lacks shooting?

Anyways, I 100% agree with bringing in a PG who is the opposite of Delly on the offensive end. One who can create his own shots instead of needing them created for him. Anything we can do to make us as match-up proof as possible is a major win for the outlook of our roster.

He's a streaky shooter to me. He's not exactly what I'd call a sharp shooter that strikes fear in a team.

He's left open with regularity. He's capable of hitting open shots, but not with consistently.

If you leave good shooters open, they usually have 15 to 20 points at the end of the game.

Delly isn't going to give you that kind of output very often.

He did a few games in the playoffs though, but a few games in the playoffs to me shouldn't become a hyperbole either.

A backup pg who can penetrate and hit an open shot is paramount for this team. Shump and jr can both play sf, so can any sg we bring in to replace JR.

But delly is not really a pg. He is a poor ball handler, streaky shooter, cant really penetrate and is very limited. While I love his hustle, we need a true backup pg, someone like Mo. Someone who puts pressure on the defense when Irving is not in there.

Currently, we don't have anyone on the team to fill this role. Barbosa, Schroder, Brooks, Hinrich, and Isaiah Thomas all provided this for our opponents in the playoffs and we had varying issues with it.

I would definitely take a backup SF if I had to choose

if we can get one who can create his own shot & create for others it would be great, unfortunately there's not alot of small forwards who can do that.

It's great to have Delly. But he is plug and play, mic and match, situational at both PG and SG.

But we need to have another option who can score and be a playmaker with more consistency and diversity than Delly.

Not to "take" Dellys spot but to complement him and enhance the amount of chessplaying we can do dictated by match ups, pace, and game situations.

Also, given our means, I fail to see why this is a choice. We'll likely add another PG/combo G AND another SF/wing

James Jones has one of the lowest RPM in the league, just next to Perkins. He is not good. We need someone better at this position.

Some of you people need to shake yourself.
Delly is a third string guard. Mostly a practice player that the coach can use as an example for hustle.
IMO, CAVS need a tall young SG that can score. Some wing that can cover more than one position. Demar Derozan would be fine with me.

I'll say backup PG just because it feels like options are more limited and Irving is going to get banged up. All PGs do and we need a better creator than Delly behind him.

LBJ will just play PG most of the time no matter who we have. So, does it really matter who we have?

There are some on this board that severely overrate him. He's not a great defender. He's not even a good defender. He's a slightly above average defender which doesn't compensate for his very limited offense. There is a reason why the team was looking to replace him. Yes, you want him on the team. Yes, you want him on the practice floor. Yes, you want him in the locker room. I'm real curious to see if he gets any offers and/or what type of deal the cavs offer (if they make an offer at all and not just let him play under qualifying offer).

I suspect we'll do both, but I think backup PG is more important because when Kyrie gets hurt Lebron has to do EVERYTHING. If we had a good ball handler/passer come off the bench Lebron could pace himself a little better. I like Delly, and want to keep him, but I think we need three point guards on this roster considering Kyrie's injury history.

Anybody else? Maybe we can try to get Chris Paul out here to back up Kyrie.

If you could somehow combine Mo Gotti and and Delly into one player, they'd be the best backup PG in the league.

Motthew Dellevilliams, if you would.

It's hard to say. If we can get a legit backup to LeBron, that's more important. However, I'm not sure how many guys available truly fit that category. Obviously Gay would be great but we have no idea if he's available or if we have what's needed to get him. There's a few teams out there I think we could make deals with to pick up a few players that help us.

Charlotte comes to mind first. After drafting Kaminsky and trading for Batum, and Hawes, something has to give with their forward situation. They now have MKG, Batum, and Marvin Williams all under contract at SF. I'd love to get MKG or Williams as part of a Haywood trade. Either would be a great back-up for LeBron and really strengthen the bench. I was surprised to see how Williams has improved his long distance shooting over the past few years. Over the past four seasons he's shot 36% from three on three attempts per game. He's able to play both SF and PF as well. Obviously MKG would be great as well. Maybe we could pry Lamb from them in a deal, too.

Are the Cavs able to be involved in a 3-way trade with a S&T if they aren't the one's taking on the S&T player? No idea how that works with the cap, but something that could make some sense for all parties would be the following:

Cavs get:
Marvin Williams
Patty Mills

Hornets get:
Danny Green

Spurs get:
Haywood

Spurs dump salary in order to pursue LMA. Green gets his money and goes back to Charlotte. Cavs get strong back-ups for LeBron and Irving. This doesn't seem that far-fetched to me. Something has to give if the Spurs want to be able to sign LMA. We'd look like this post trade:

PG: Irving, Mills, Delly
SG: Shump, Smith??, Delly
SF: James, Williams, Jones
PF: Love, TT
C: Moz, AV

That's a damn deep team with a lot of options on offense. Then, we likely bring JR back or go after a bench scorer at SG or possibly a shooting big with the mini-mid. Some guys that could fall into either category at that salary range:

Jerkbo
Belinelli
Barbosa
Ellington
Stuckey

I think back-up point guard is more of a priority than a small forward. When LeBron rests, Shump and JR can play as a three but lack of a player who can run the offense and create is something that was a major issue for us in the finals. And, that was evident everytime LeBron sat. We couldn't create even if our life depended on it.

Yes, Kyrie was injured but even then I feel, having just two players who can handle the ball and create, in LeBron and Kyrie is very risky, especially when we consider Ky's injury issues. Love Delly and he is a good player, but I see him more as a 3 & D guard than a point guard because he is below par when it comes to creating for himself or for others.
