Man...Marvin Williams? Yikes, we're scrapping the bottom of the barrel here. I have a lot more faith in the front office than landing Marvin Williams with Haywood's deal. Marvin Williams isn't a talent worth the extra millions in tax dollars we would be spending if we do in fact use the contract to acquire a player.

Maybe we could steal Ariza from Houston if they are trying to clear space for Aldridge? Not sure I want to help unite Harden, Aldridge, and Howard, but getting a guy like Ariza would be pretty big. Anyone think he could still play SG?

Perhaps Houston was already planning to move Ariza with the pickup of Dekker?

I think the move to draft Dekker is more about the uncertainty that Brewer and Smith return. Both of them earned a lot more money than they were making last season the way they played for that team down the stretch, much like our own RFA this year in Shump, Delly, and TT, but they are unrestricted. They can become very thin at the 3 spot if they dump Ariza without knowing about those 2 first. Plus, a team like Houston, who is in a situation like our own trying to win titles right now, isn't going to start a rookie like Dekker who is unproven in a Morey style offense that relies on its players to chuck 3's, which is not one of his strengths.

I personally would like to grab one of the guys from the Nuggets, preferably Gallo. Only 27 next season, long and tall, shoots the 3 well, underrated passer, came off of the bench most of last season so you know he would except the role, was pretty effective as an individual defender against SF/PFs. Just makes a lot of sense, to me at least, and it falls into Griff's mentioned parameters for what he is looking for, "play makers in the 26-30 range". That's the kind of talent level that is worth the extra tax dollars IMO.

Gallinari would be a great get for this team. If all it takes is Haywood I'd be in. He'd be great as a back-up to LeBron. He'd also give us another big that can shoot the ball, which is something I think we seriously need. He could play PF with either TT or Moz as well.

A vet minimum PG is a must, as a 3rd PG...I think primary duties are with Kyrie and Delly...3rd PG comes in to share time with Delly when Kyrie is injured...because we all know he will be at some stage during the season. The guy has to be a character guy and a good locker room presence...we don't want a problem child fouling up what has been created. To me the problems in the finals was not Delly's inability to create plays, it was that there was no one to spell him and he became physically tired. As he became tired his decision making suffered as did his 3 point shooting.

A relief SF I think is critical to provide Bron with spells during the season. I think we will see more player management in the coming season with Bron and I think there will be games, and stretches of games, where he doesn't play so that he is in good shape for the Playoffs. So we need someone to come in and carry responsibility in this area.

I think a vet minimum SF is a must (and/or via Haywood's contract) and a 2nd string PG via the MLE - Mo Williams makes too much sense and I have a hard time seeing it not happening.

My question on Mo, is what is his relationship with Kyrie like and will he be happy sitting on the bench for long periods and maybe whole games? Will he become a locker room negative? Will he work well with Bron? Can he come in on spot situations and contribute from cold...?

Mind you the thought of him facing Delly in practice makes me smile

Mo is one of the most likable guys I can ever remember rolling through Cleveland. He is in his 30s, past his prime, and has been on teams with not much championship hope since LeBron left in 2010. I'm sure he will gladly except a role on the bench playing for championships.

And will he work well with LeBron? You realize he's played with LeBron before and had by far his best years, right?

And Mo Williams, if on the Cavs, would not go entire games without playing. Too good of a player.

I know he played with Bron...doesn't mean that he had/will have a good relationship with him

Your last comment is my concern, And Mo Williams, if on the Cavs, would not go entire games without playing...I know he is a good player, but with a fit Kyrie, I can see Mo only playing short minutes, especially during the regular season...Blatt likes Delly to close out games...so Mo would play minutes here and there to spell Kyrie. And there lies the question, would Mo be happy with that in the hope of wining a ring or will his ego get the better of him...he needs to have a Miller mindset...but actually perform when required

Hopefully the Cavs team that finished off the regular season and playoffs with a record of like 50-12 + various off-season additions (Andy back, a vet PG like Mo, at the very least a rotation SF) + more chemistry/experience than last year = plenty of opportunity to play everyone on the roster due to all of the blowouts and victories we rack up along the way.

And in regards to the original question of this thread, that's a tough one. Mostly because I see no way we only acquire 1 or the other. We're definitely getting a vet PG and a wing player. Which one is MLE and which one is Haywood contract (or perhaps even a vet min ring chaser), I'm not sure.

Have to remember the JR situation affects everything as well. Mo is comfortable playing as an off guard and we'd see him and Kyrie on the floor together at times I'd imagine. Depending on what happens with Smith and the Haywood contract, more minutes could open up at Guard anyway.

Just because Blatt used Delly to close out games at times last year doesn't mean he'd do it again if he had other options at his disposal. No reason to believe he wouldn't want an extra ball handler / shooter on the floor at the end of games, especially if we're behind. Maybe Blatt simply trusted Delly more at the end of games to not make a mistake or dumb play that might cost us. Who's to say he wouldn't trust someone like Mo more? Jones got a lot of time in crunch time near the end of the year because he was trusted as a vet to not be rattled by the moment.

The other thing we have to remember is that Mo is a significantly better creator and shooter than Delly. He's shot 38% from 3 for his career. By far his two best seasons shooting the ball were his two in Cleveland playing with LeBron. He shot 45% from the field and 43% from 3, both significantly higher than his career averages. I wouldn't be shocked to see him shoot as good or better with all of the open looks he'd get from playing next to LeBron, Kyrie, and Love.

Agree with most of what you say, I guess...apart from the point about Jones getting more time at the end because Blatt trusted him...I thought it was because we had no one left on the bench that didn't need a walker to get on the court or an oxygen tank when they were out there...I surrender...bring back the MO JO
