Who is the Browns' General Manager for the 2013 off-season?

Former Raiders front office figure Mike Lombardi is eying a return to the league as well. Lombardi, who interviewed for the 49ers general manager job in 2010, is seen by sources as a strong candidate in Cleveland, where he has ties to new team president Joe Banner. Several league sources expect Banner to bring in a veteran executive to help oversee personnel, and perhaps a younger administrator as well to work on contracts and salary cap and begin to learn football operations. Lombardi previously worked in Cleveland as Director of Player Personnel under Bill Belichick, and his talent evaluation skills are well regarded. Lombardi, who currently serves in a media role, has been considered for several positions within the league since being fired by the Raiders in 2007.

Former Bears general manager Jerry Angelo is also eying a return to the league next season, sources said. Angelo was fired in January after an 11-season run as GM in Chicago.

Polian seeking a return to the NFL; Lombardi could return as well

Bill Polian, a longtime president and general manager in the NFL who served most recently with the Colts, is looking to return to the league, according to sources. The 69-year-old Polian has been working in a media role this year after his dismissal from Indianapolis, but with major changes possible across the league, his timing for a return could be great.

Polian's son Chris, former general manager of the Colts, is also seeking possibilities in the NFL, and the father and son would likely come as a package deal. While Carolina -- where Polian worked from 1994-97 -- is not a possibility given the circumstances surrounding the elder Polian's exit there, his resume and experience will be hard for other candidates to match.

Some thought Polian might retire after his long tenure with the Colts ended amid all the corresponding drama about the end of Peyton Manning's career in Indianapolis, but he is open to NFL opportunities, sources said.

Please let this not be true... Typical Browns front office bungling if they fire Heckert just to hire Lombardi.

To be fair it was 5 years and he drafted 2 pro bowlers in 2006 and they won a ring. Nobody is perfect, but have the Browns had a GM draft as good as Polian in the past 30 years?

This may be true, but he stated he'd come back for the right team when Rizzo talked to him. Maybe he's itching to help upstart another franchise.

I would love to have Bill Polian 30 years ago....

Heckert to Lombardi would be awful. Absolutely horrible. It would be another 5 years before this team had a chance to compete. I say 5 because I imagine that's when Haslam would get fed up and finally fire him.

Michael Lombardi, the guy who called Joe Haden slow.

Sounds like a typical Browns move.

Running neck and neck with hiring a 70 year old who's draft production at GM has been non-existent for 5-10 years.

If someone wants to do the legwork to start a "keep Heckert" petition, I'd sign.

10 years? He drafted 2 probowlers in 2006. Notice how his drafts were bad after the superbowl win. Correlation? Possible, but I'd take the proven 70 year old over the guy who drafted for the Raiders.

Sorry, but Heckert's gotta go if we're cleaning house. It's just how it works. Nor does it matter, H&B are going to do what they want.

Which, as you seem to already know, is to get rid of Heckert?

I honestly wonder if you ever know what you're talking about. You say some truly asinine things. Usually a new owner and new President would mean everyone is gone. In this case, there is a GM in place who has had a lot of recent success who just so happened to work with Banner for years. Could he be gone? Absolutely. None of us have any clue.

I still don't get your Polian infatuation. I wish OSU hired Lou Holtz, he's a proven winner.

The definition of cleaning house implies that Heckert would be gone... otherwise it wouldn't be cleaning house.

So yes... if they are cleaning house, Heckert would be gone. And if I had a vagina i would be a woman

Haslam definitely wants to win. He isnt going to fire Heckert just because he was here with the previous regime. He is going to analyze who is available and if Heckert is the best man available he will stay.

Rumor is him and banner didn't get along. Heckert's looking around the league for another job. By success you mean? 3 losing seasons. Great!

Sorry, but they win as a team and lose as a team. How many probowl players has Heckert drafted here?

Answer: ZERO

You finally get the opportunity to get somebody that is a winner, proven successful with every team he's been with and has built three superbowl contenders and you say I don't want him.

Heckert may have worked with Banner, but both Polian and Haslam are close friends with the Manning family.

This is probably what happens, Heckert gets fired and takes over AJ Smiths job in SD, where he builds a super bowl winner by 2017
