Why Larry Dolan Needs to Sell the Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sizemore, Damon, Lowe, Lopez....That's maybe 13 million...

The Tigers have a market almost twice the size of Cleveland...

But yep, it's possible. Just cause...

We Spend Pointless Money! And If We Actually Had Players Here That People Would Want To Watch Our Market Would Get A Little Bigger But No We Want To Keep Spending Little buy Litlle On Non Impact Guys And Hope Everything Pans Out!

16 million

You now have enough to buy 70 percent of Prince Fielder...for one year.

Game changer.

16 mill + What Money We Spent On Lowe...And Yes He Would Be Our 4 Batter...And our team salary would be like 5 mill more per year to have him for more than 1 year...Just dont resign the bums including lowe...

I think there are two spots in the rotation which are solidified in terms of next season:

Justin Masterson and Ubaldo Jimenez

The other in-house candidates for 3-5 include:

Carlos Carrasco
Josh Tomlin
Zach McAllister
Jeanmar Gomez
TJ McFarland
David Huff

Ideally, you'd like to sign 1-2 veteran starters this offseason in the hope they can augment rebound years from Masterson and Jimenez (who you're committed to financially).

Free agent options include:

Scott Baker (31) - $9.25MM club option
Erik Bedard (34)
Joe Blanton (32)
Bartolo Colon (40)
Aaron Cook (34)
Kevin Correia (32)
Doug Davis (37)
Jorge De La Rosa (32) - $11MM player option with a $1MM buyout
Ryan Dempster (36)
R.A. Dickey (38) - $5MM club option with a $300K buyout
Zach Duke (30)
Scott Feldman (29) - $9.25MM club option with a $600K buyout
Jeff Francis (32)
Gavin Floyd (30) - $9.5MM club option
Freddy Garcia (37)
Zack Greinke (28)
Jeremy Guthrie (34)
Rich Harden (31)
Dan Haren (32) - $15.5MM club option with a $3.5MM buyout
Livan Hernandez (38)
Roberto Hernandez (32) - $9MM club option
Tim Hudson (37) - $9MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Edwin Jackson (29)
Hiroki Kuroda (38)
Colby Lewis (33)
Francisco Liriano (29)
Kyle Lohse (34)
Rodrigo Lopez (37)
Derek Lowe (40)
Paul Maholm (31) - $6.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
Shaun Marcum (31)
Jason Marquis (34)
Daisuke Matsuzaka (32)
Brandon McCarthy (29)
Kevin Millwood (38)
Jamie Moyer (50)
Brett Myers (32) - $10MM vesting option with a $3MM buyout
Ramon Ortiz (40)
Roy Oswalt (35)
Carl Pavano (37)
Jake Peavy (31) - $22MM club option with a $4MM buyout
Brad Penny (35)
Joel Pineiro (34)
Anibal Sanchez (29)
Jonathan Sanchez (30)
Ervin Santana (30) - $13MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Joe Saunders (32)
James Shields (31) - $9MM club option with a $1.5MM buyout
Chien-Ming Wang (33)
Kip Wells (36)
Jake Westbrook (35) - $8.5MM mutual option with a $1MM buyout if club declines
Randy Wolf (36) - $10MM club option with a $1.5MM buyout
Chris Young (34)
Carlos Zambrano (32)

There are more than a few options in there who fit the Indians price range, so if they can get any sort of consistency from the top two guys they're committed two, this rotation could certainly rebound in 2013.
Off that list I'd try to sign McCarthy to a 3-4 year deal, and then see what the market looks like for Ervin Santana and try to get him on a discount price after the horrible year he's having right now.

Already included Lowe, but thanks.

And of course the fact Prince had literally no interest in playing in Cleveland...but once you get past that, I'm sure it would have been possible.

And he grew up in Detroit, spending most of his childhood there before moving to FLA when his father retired. So yes, Detroit had that going for them in this case as well.

McCarthy has spent more time on the DL than the active roster the past few years, a 4 year deal would be pretty silly IMO.

He's probably looking at a one-year deal or minor league contract at this stage.

Even with the DL stints he was really good last season, and in the few starts he had this year. He's going to get a lot more than a minor league contract, unless you were referring to Santana on that.

But yea, I did forget about most of his injuries. 4 years is definitely too much.

He was very good, until it ended prematurely with another injury.

Scary list there...Would definitely be an Indians type sign on a 1-year deal though.

I don't think the Dolans will ever sell the team. With the new revenue sharing, I am sure they are making millions even with this horrible attendance. For them, why would they care? They seem to be all about the money not winning.

The Ubaldo trade is never made if they didn't care. Pomeranz/White are much cheaper than Jimenez.

We can debate the moves the Indians have made and the way Dolan has managed the team, but I sincerely believe he cares.

I'd give McCarthy a 1 year deal with an option for a 2nd year. I love the idea of Ervin Santana, even on a one year deal.

I get he grew up in det...But It's Time For The Dolans to put theyre money where theyre mouths are for once and spend a little might actually get some fans to go down to the park! O I forgot they dont care about that they are worried about starting off strong and falling off like every year! And O Can't Forget Fireworks night...Lol Promotions shouldnt be the only reason ppl wanna come to the park its a joke!
