79. The reason why the Cavs were interested in Kosta Koufos is because he has a contract that is one the Cavs can trade for (fits their salary cap restraints). No one thinks Koufos is some incredible player.

80. If Cavs ranked the centers they wanted, Koufos would not be in the top 10

84. Cavs targeted Koufos also because Koufos will be free agent after this year, and Memphis likely can't afford to keep him. He is a legitimate starter in the NBA

So Windy says the Cavs don't want Koufos, even though Koufos is a legit starting center?

"If Cavs ranked the centers they wanted, Koufos would not be in the top 10"

if i remember correctly Windhorst meant if they ranked all centers they wanted (and that includes the unrealistic ones like let's say Marc Gasol) then Koufos wouldn't be in the top 10.

He said that the Cavs want Koufos give current circumstances. But he added that if the Cavs made a list of centers they would be interested in overall (I guess if salary cap and other issues were not involved), Koufos would not be on that list in the top 10.

His point was just that the Cavs don't see Koufos as some kind of amazing player. He just wanted to explain how the Cavs view Koufos and why they were pursuing him in the first place.

That makes more sense, but it seems useless to mention centers that you have no shot of getting. Koufos and Mosgov are both starting quality centers with tremendous size and both would help us. I'm not sure if they're ideal, but is Gasol/Noah/Howard/Cousins/available? Might as well have a list that like like prime Shaq, prime Wilt, prime Kareem, prime Hakeem, etc.

On the other hand, perhaps there are plans for a big move (no pun intended) this summer more than what we already expect.

windy back tracking?

It might not have been Windy's choice. If Windy had made the changes, there would have likely been a note from the editor explaining the changes. Changes without an editor's note means something different to me. I bet Tad Carper made some phone calls yesterday.

Hey Windy 1/2/2015

  • LeBron's "strain" is an umbrella term, it's nonspecific, Windy thinks it's wear.
  • LeBron has played 12,000 more minutes than MJ, 1000 more minutes than Kobe Bryant at age 30.
  • Windy doesn't understand why James lost the weight, it's got to be related to his back and knee.
  • Blatt isn't getting the player's respect.
  • He conducts himself like the Israeli Gregg Popovich, only NBA egos don't respond to a rookie coach with that type of demeanor.
  • NBA players grew up in the game, they only respect NBA accomplishments.
  • Would take a full-scale player's meeting; a need for wholehearted buy-in.
  • Bad marriage, Cav's hired him to coach a team that wasn't planning on LeBron James.
  • 2 Massive differences: 4 year contracts in Miami. The Heat had a hammer; it worked, LeBron wanted Riley to coach, Riley stood up for Spoelstra.
  • Wade believed in Spoelstra, DW3 was the alpha dog, and LeBron respected Wade's wishes.
  • Mike Miller is functioning as our leader. Miller is trying to salvage things, he's trying to get everyone's cooperation on both sides of the ball.
  • The players gravitate towards Tyronn Lue.
  • This could end up being terrific for the Cavs; Blatt's going to get a shot with James out of the lineup.
  • We've played the second amount of home games thus far. Our schedule is going to get tougher as the season moves on.
  • We shouldn't worry about seeding in the playoffs. We need to address our bigger issues first.
  • Basically we're heading into hell, we've yet to play the bulk of our tough games.
  • Windy isn't scared of Toronto. Best offense, mediocre defense.
  • Wizards on the road in the playoffs 1st round scares Windy.
  • Windy believes the Bulls are going to win the East.
  • January 10th is a key day for the league/transactions. We need a roster spot to sign guys into.
  • 4.85 million for Andy's injury. They need a roster spot to bring a guy back in.
  • 3 guys on non-guaranteed contracts: Price, Kirk, Amundson, you can release them, bring them back on 2x 10 day contracts.
  • Imperative that we free up a roster spot. We have 2x guys that count for a roster spot; AV and Brendan Haywood. You can use these exceptions in a trade, or to sign a released player.
  • Opportunity presents itself with this setback. Windy thinks we go over .500 in the next two weeks.
  • This is the opportunity to put the Blatt stuff on the back burner.

Thanks Frank.

I must be a pessimist, but I have a hard time seeing things turning around here given our schedule and personnel. I just don't see it. You gotta play with heart and fire, and physicality. Not seeing it with this team. Hope they prove me wrong.

Cavs could also appeal to the NBA for a temporary additional roster spot because of the Varejao injury if they have 4 players inactive.

I thought the Disabled Player Exception allowed them to sign a 16th person already?

The Mike Miller news was a good bit of info from Windy. Peacemaker and mediator seems like a natural role for him, and it's just another step towards his eventual coaching career.

  • Windy doesn't understand why James lost the weight, it's got to be related to his getting off HGH.
fixed.

The most concerning thing about Windy report what that David Blatt is viewed as the Israeli Greg Pop. When he hasn't done anything in the NBA but brings that attitude over here. The story he told about his first NBA win in Chicago stood out. It also stood out that he didn't isolate Lebron he said the vets with Mike Miller being the peacemaker. If the vets who all have won championships aren't buying in and Blatt isn't adjusting are willing to budge this can't be good.

Blatt isn't getting a chance but it sounds like he's not helping himself with his arrogance.

It might really be blatt just isn't the right guy for this team at this time. Thing is, I don't think lue is the answer either. Mark Jackson would at least get them to play defense I think.
