Windhorst Radio Show & Updates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kyrie's dad is on the forum. He mostly posts in the Dion Waiters thread.

Anyone catch Windy's show this morning at 8:00AM? Recap and I'll rep you. On another note, back spasms are no joke. I'll never tease an athlete again for sitting out because of spasms.

I hear he mentioned we may be looking for a swingman?

Says that we played 5-7 minutes of defense against NO on Monday, but that was enough to create separation, since we scored 119. For the foreseeable future that is the kind of team we are going to be -- play enough defense to hopefully win given our scoring ability, but not much more. Hopefully we will build up to playing a whole game's worth of defense because that is what we will need to win a championship.

As long as Kyrie shares the ball the Cavs will be good enough on offense. Kyrie responded to being called out by Lebron and Blatt and that is good. Lebron can deny that he and Kyrie had words all he wants, but the truth is that he did. Kyrie has to accept Lebron's leadership for the Cavs to win. At the Utah game, it was an explicit stated part of the game plan that the Cavs would feed Lebron and Love, and Kyrie just totally ignored the game plan and freelanced and didn't share the ball. That's the kind of thing that can't happen.

more Windy: so fascinated by this team. So much more interesting than the situation the last couple of years in Miami. The regular season in Miami was boring by the end, you were just waiting for the playoffs. For this team it's just endlessly interesting to see how they will deal with adversity and work out how to improve. Cares less at this point whether they win or lose than how they respond to tough situations, how Blatt coaches, how they defend when they need a stop.

Cavs are starting to actively look for Kevin Love. When all of the big three score 20+ consistently the Cavs will be at their best.

Windy thinks that Lebron doesn't pay much attention to Blatt, doesn't seem to turn to him during games, or regard him that much generally. David Blatt's challenge is to earn Lebron's respect by coming up with good game plans. Lebron and Blatt are not bonded. This was the same situation with Eric Spoelstra -- Spo had to earn Lebron's respect by showing good game plans and good in-game coaching. Eventually Spoelstra did earn Lebron's respect. It is a unique challenge Blatt has of earning the star's respect.

Re Dion: this is now four consecutive coaches plus the most respected player in the NBA -- Boeheim, Byron Scott, Mike Brown, David Blatt, Lebron James -- who have thought he should come off the bench.

Dion can make $10 million+ a year if he accepts the role the team wants him to have rather than having a one-dimensional scorer mentality. We'll see what he really wants.

Windy thinks that Dion missed the national anthem because he was pouting in the locker room about not starting. But 'has no proof', is 'speculating'.

Predicts that the Cavs will score 125+ points against the Celtics tonight! Also predicts that Cavs will go 4-1 next five games.

OK, I need to go back to work...

Rather than adding more posts, perhaps you should just edit your last post and add to it? Also, adding some formatting (like bullet points) cleans things up and makes it easier to read. Thanks for summing it up, nonetheless.

Some stuff from today's podcast:

Blatt can't control how the players play, but he is not putting the team in the best possible position to win.

Lebron and Kyrie are showing favoritism toward AV over Love in how they play pick and rolls. Lebron and Irving are more comfortable with AV rolling to the hoop than with Love's pick and pop. Notice in the fourth quarter of the Spurs game Love was a non-factor, and also that at certain key points Spurs jumped the pick and roll with Varejao because it was so predictable.

Love also not getting enough post touches.

Andy is just not as good an offensive player as Love, so using Andy too much on P&R and not Love you are handicapping yourself.

Cavs are so bad defensively that they cannot survive when they have an off night offensively.

Cavs sat back and were passive against Ty Lawson -- why didn't they pressure him bringing the ball up?

Spurs did not play well -- Parker had a terrible game -- but they won because they defended at key points.

Lebron's jumper is flat -- yes -- but his jumper has always been flat, this is why he is so streaky

long-range jumper is better than last year.

as far as Lebron's lift Windy thinks he's fine. It's just aging -- Lebron is just no longer the 2009 Lebron, he doesn't have that youthful explosion any more. Never going to be that athletic again.

Lebron looks off because he is not getting good looks, in Miami almost every shot was a good look, this offense just isn't working/isn't clicking the same way

Windy does not subscribe to the 'Lebron is diminished' theory at all, whatsoever. Lebron is still an MVP-caliber player and he is not injured or inferior to what you would expect.

Re Lebron's minutes -- don't want to burn Lebron out in a particular game by not giving him any rest in the second half so he can't finish. But in general Lebron can play a fair amount of minutes, 37-38 minutes in fine. In the Spurs game Lebron should probably have played more, they might have won in that case.

Insane that Joe Harris played 19 straight minutes in the Spurs game. If Harris averages more than 12-15 minutes a game then something is off with the team.

Would institute a fine for Joe Harris every time he dribbles. He is asking for a turnover every time he dribbles right now. He should be Daniel Gibson and wait for the spot up shot. Harris should not be getting minutes over Mike Miller at this point.

Why was Will Cherry even playing in the Spurs game?

Shawn Marion should not be starting, he is not really a shooting guard. He should come in off the bench.

Why have they abandoned Mike Miller? OK, he's shooting 20 percent this year, but he will never turn it around if he doesn't play

David Blatt doesn't trust his rotations -- classic issue with a rookie head coach

[ADDED]

Against Spurs Kyrie was actually aggressive on defense -- he did NOT let himself get screened, did not sit back. Will be a good test against John Wall tonight, will Kyrie attack the screens?

The Spurs had to switch to using Diaw as a PG figure against Kevin Love because Kyrie was being aggressive on Parker

Corey Brewer -- the Cavs are offering almost nothing for Brewer. The Cavs have second round picks that are 'top 55 protected' -- this is actually sort of a fake pick, since anyone worth anything will be drafted in the top 55. Really, the Cavs are just offering to take money off peoples' books, not real picks.

Cavs have traded away four of their upcoming second round picks and really have very little if anything in that department to work with.

Significant trades do not happen generally before December 15th. That is when players who signed over the summer become eligible to be traded. So don't expect much if anything to happen before December 15th.

Believes Cavs will win next two games (Wizards and Raptors). Think the Cavs will bounce back from what has been a disappointing week. Thinks Kevin Love will have a big game in at least one of those games

I guess Windy doesn't exactly understand what Cavs fans are worrying about regarding LeBron.

Windy's basketball opinions have always been a little suspect to me. He acts like joe Harris is out there pounding the air out of the rock. He only dribbles or attacks the hoop when he had to or on a close out; and when he has, his handles looked good enough to get the job done. That jab about penalizing him for dribbling is a crock of shit. I do agree about kevin love needing to be used more in those pick and roll sets; he is also probably right about lebrons health and performance.

Yeah windy is way off on Harris...

Miller doesn't deserve to play yet
