Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LeBron so desperately wants to play for a former player that both times he's been a free agent, he's chosen to go to a team that did NOT have a former player as its coach.

Here we go with the "LeBron & the coach" talk.

I remember Spoelstra's first year in Miami, when they started off with the same exact record after 15 games that we have right now, people were saying he was already on the chopping block, that Riley would be taking over by the end of the year, that LeBron phased Spoelstra out, etc..

Replace "Riley" with "generic former player" (I know Riley was a former player) and the media is spinning the same exact things.

This is mind-blowingly similar to Miami's first year of the Big 3 era that it's kinda creepy, actually.. :chuckle:

Hopefully this means we're going to win 2 rings over the next 4 years. :)

Not a Windy hater, but don't these two statements directly contradict each other?

"Lebron doesn't care one bit about what coach he plays for."

"Lebron has made it very clear he wants to play for a coach who has played in the league."

:detective:

I was watching first take from after the finals loss where they were speculating what LeBron might do.

It's hilarious in hindsight to see the overconfidence from the media pundits that Cleveland fucked up by not hiring Mark Jackson. Then you have Broussard with the David Blatt comment.

It's kind of funny, until you realize these guys are just up there making an educated guess, and their sources could be their own grandmother for all we know.

I'm very skeptical about Miller.
He hasn't played the last two games which have happened to be blowout wins and suddenly he's going to be starting? The defense is just starting to gel and throwing in a poor defensive player right now into more minutes doesn't make much sense

Brilliant :chuckle:

Here's a transcript--

Brian can't say enough good things about Kyrie's game. Kyrie has evolved is game to play off the ball. Kyrie's defense is the best in his career. Kyrie's improvement is showing up in the plus minus. It's been the best month of Kyrie's career. Blatt & Lebron helped, but Kyrie deserves most of the credit for accepting the changes and making the improvements.

Kyrie and Lebron were angry with Brian's column about the confrontation early in the season. Admits that he's been hard on Kyrie for the last two years, but says Kyrie deserves praise for what he's done in the last month. Thinks Kyrie is better liked by his teammates now that he's playing a team game. Mike Miller has also helped Kyrie make the transition.

Blatt is playing his starters too many minutes. Expect Kyrie and Love to miss some games during the season. Cavs need to have depth to withstand those outages. Says Kyrie has fragile bones, but as long as his knees and ankles stay healthy, it will be OK.

Blatt has started to steady the rotation. Rests Love and Lebron at the same time instead of Kyrie and Lebron which is probably good. Starting lineup still needs to change. Blatt's timeout at the end of the game allowed the Knicks to make a defensive substitution that made Kyrie's last play more difficult. Thinks David Blatt has had issues adjusting to the NBA.

Cavs are not rebounding as well as expected. Tristan is struggling a bit because his game works when he can wear out his opponent and he isn't as effective in fewer minutes. Kevin Love is not just a below the rim player, he's a way below the rim player. Cavs would benefit from having a real 7 footer, but that's not one of the top 2 problems on the team right now.

Turnovers are the big problem. LBJ has a chronic issue with his elbow. It's why he wears a sleeve on it. It isn't serious, but it does flare up and give him trouble on his handle. It's not why the Cavs lost to Boston in 2010, but it has been nagging him for years. Lebron has also been making silly mistakes too on passes unrelated to the elbow.

Cavs have had chronic bench problems. It can be fixed a lot of different ways, but he'd like to see Varejao & Marion to the bench, but it is hard to make that move during a win streak.

Feels that Dion is pouting and that hurts the team. Unlike Kyrie who adjusted, Waiters acts like he should be running this team. Expects a trade between Dec15 and Jan 10. Expects the Cavs to pick up a 3&d guy. Dion's name has started getting included in discussions with other teams, but that doesn't mean that Dion is going to get traded.

Cavs still want a true big man, but it is hard to find a trade match that actually makes the team better. Jason Thompson is available. Doesn't think JT is better than TT.

Lance Stevenson? Hells no! Spent 10 days researching why the Pacer's collapsed last season. Thinks Lance is a nice guy off the floor, but he irritates his teammates with selfish play. He's not worth $9Mil a year. He'd upset the chemistry here.

Top of the West is ferocious this year. It will be hard for OKC to make the 8th seed. They are already facing must win games in December.

Lebron was just joking with his All star game comments. Fair chance that the Allstar games comes to Cleveland. If Kyrie is voted to be an Allstar starter, he gets about $2Mil more per year for the next 5 years because his max contract amount goes up. Will be harder to get voted as a starter this year with Rose playing.

Thinks Kevin Love intends to stay in Cleveland right now, but what really matters is how Kevin feels in July.

Team’s lethargy episodes might be less frequent if they had a stronger bench. Defense is much better than expected. Bench is much worse. Team is working on it. Delly’s return will help all the bench guys play better. He should be back for the OKC game.

Cavs will have to play great to beat Toronto tonight. They are evenly matched teams right now.

Today's show-- http://www.espncleveland.com/page.php?page_id=2451
  • Lebron has tendinitis in both knees, which is common in 12 year vets. Caused some swelling, could have played through it, but is the first time that Lebron has missed a game for a knee issue. It is the first sign that Lebron is playing too many minutes. Both Blatt & Lebron wanted the minutes so far, but right now it's time to get the man his rest. When Lebron took over as point guard, he did it on his own, wasn't coach mandated. Glad Kyrie was willing to adjust.

  • Blatt started Delly instead of Dion. That's a message to Dion. How will Dion take that? Joe Harris at end of game instead of Marion was questionable coaching call. It's also a reminder that the Cavs need another wing defender.

  • Kevin Love has some wear on his knee. Nothing to worry about right now. Thunder has the longest players in the NBA. Kevin Love struggles against teams with very long players. Things might have been better if the Cavs had more time to game plan for not having Lebron.

  • Cavs had a good run where they were winning 50-50 games, which is what good teams do. Glad to see the defense improve. Doesn't think the Cavs can be a top 2 defensive team, but if they can be a top 10 team, they got a chance in June.

  • Lebron is looking slower, less explosions so far this season. Windy's bosses told him he needed to write a story about it. Parallels to what we saw in 2010 when he started in Miami, but Lebron is older. Lebron might be past his physical prime, but he's not past his basketball prime. Windy prefers today's Lebron to the 2006 Lebron. Lebron is still "the Cavs everything right now". The number drops for Lebron have a lot to do with the style the Cavs are playing. Heat had a lot of practice finding good looks for Lebron, got more transition points & played without a center. Today, Lebron is starting more plays instead of having plays run for him. Does not think the numbers accurately represent Lebron's contributions right now.

  • Does not think Delly is a long term starter. He's fundamentally limited physically, but he's an ideal NBA backup point guard, and is a valuable player in the league. Delly is a very talented offensive player, but has a defensive mindset. Should have a long NBA career. Currently worth many times his salary to this team. Dion is still a better 6th man for the team. Even though Dion has too much angle on his release, Dion's a more talented scorer and talented scorers are still more valuable in the NBA than backup point guards.

  • Lakers front office is tanking, but Kobe is not going to stop fighting. Lakers probably lose their pick.

  • Goldenstate is palying out of their minds. They might have chemistry issues when David Lee returns. AI is not so happy with his role. Speights and D.Green way are out performing expectations right now. D Green could possibly continue to perform at that level, but it would not be surprising if GS regresses a bit as a team.

  • Kirilenko will get waived & has relationship with Blatt, but if he can't get on the floor with the Nets, what can he do for the Cavs? AK has bad back and a desire to return to Russia for near term. Not on the top of the Cavs shopping list right now.

  • New CBA makes contract extensions less attractive for players. It is leaving lots of teams/players in limbo right now.

  • Thinks Lebron will play, wants to play tonight. Lebron wearing compression pants to reduce knee swelling. Expects Kyrie to sit out.

Windy also said that stats like "PER" or "RPM" are telling that LeBron isn't even a top 10 player in the NBA right now.

Remember that one time I said stats don't tell a full story and got roasted for it?

Yeah. :D

No he said that people are telling him that those numbers say Lebron isn't even a top 10 player. His insinuation is that he doesn't agree with that assessment.

Windy actually told a pretty interesting anecdote from a league executive who said Vegas bookmakers basically have two meetings every time they set their lines. They meet once with the analytics guys, then have them leave. Then they meet with their scouts, then have them leave. Then they set the line based on the way both sets of information align.

That's the balance needed with analytics.

Yep, heard it. Makes perfect sense to me. But some people would certainly disagree, I guess...
