It's not true any more, but last winter it was one of the worst kept secrets in the league, officially false except for the uncomfortable problem that it was actually true.

I personally believe his desire to leave was completely exaggerated. He wasn't happy, but all that seemed to change when they shit-canned potato head. Kyrie obviously just wanted a change in his surroundings, whether that meant leaving or a coaching / front office / roster overhaul. I find it difficult believe that if he was hellbent on leaving, that he would have signed that extension to begin with.

Just because Kyrie resigned a long-term contract with us doesn't mean that he didn't want out. It's possible that he still wants out although now I highly doubt that. .

No, it's not. His contract extension proved his desire to stay, whether everyone here wants to speculate otherwise or not.

For the record, when Windy reported there being tension between Kyrie and LeBron last year...that was true. It stemmed from Kyrie spurning an invitation from LeBron to come work out with him. Obviously they got it sorted out though, so it's no big deal now.

In fact pretty much everything he's reported did have an element of truth to it, or it was told to him DIRECTLY by someone close to the people involved. He's not just randomly making up stuff.

You're speculating now. Very few people here, if any, truly know how connected Windy is to the LeBron camp currently. People can say "Oh well it's obvious someone from the LeBron camp is feeding him information for misdirection purposes" but that seems completely illogical. What's the point of the constant misdirection. The fact that he has been proven wrong several times when it's all said and done does not reflect well on him as a reporter at all.

I don't dislike Windhorst, but I call them like I see them. He's been proven wrong numerous times in the last year alone, which is not good for someone whogets paid to report factual information. Once or twice I can accept as misdirection, but at this point it's a pattern, so I take everything he says with a grain of salt at this point in time.

I disagree. I believe Grant was Windy's pipeline and when Grant got fired, Windy turned very negative towards the Cavs and began reporting things that have been proven false. I believe many of these rumors were initiated by Grant or by Windy in response. At one point, I believed that Windy was just a mouthpiece for ESPN's agenda to keep LeBron in Miami, but I don't think that is accurate. I believe that Windy is now trying to get inside access to LeBron/the Cavs through favorable public relations articles about LeBron's agent(s), which I'm fine with. The more (truthful) inside info Windy has, the more he can report, in which case we all benefit.

Again, when he's on, I think Windy is one of the better NBA reporters.

Haynes doesn't stand a chance, to be honest. When Windy tries he's better at finding out info than anybody.

Windy's been on the outside, looking in, for at LEAST the last 4 years. Maybe he didn't sell his soul for access, like Broussard did, but Windy's game is putting together a narrative after the fact, rather than actually having the scoop. That is a somewhat useful function, but if he actually HAD the inside scoop, he could have saved us a lot of grief on multiple occasions.

I don't think we can explain away all of the stuff Brian has written that wasn't true as a consequence of his involvement with Grant. Some things just don't match up with that. My problems with many of Windhorst's recent articles is that they insult my intelligence. There is no way he can believe some of the things he is writing. People need to understand that one major aspect of his life changed after Lebron left Cleveland, the person signing his checks.

I want to make it clear that I don't hate Windhurst. I used to listen to him on Les's show. I read most everything he writes. It just is incredibly disappointing to me how much he now slants the news and tries to pass off things as truths that are completely false.

"Lebron has never played with a ball dominant guard." -- Brian Windhorst

Anyone reading this actually believe that? Anyone actually believe that Brian believes that? Mr James had just played the last 4 years with Dwayne Wade. They had a lot of issues that first season on how to share the ball due to them both being dominant. In fact, Mr Windhurst himself wrote many of the articles from E-Spin highlighting the problems it was causing the Heat. But, when it comes time to frame an article this off season with a slant on how Lebron wouldn't leave Miami, he suddenly gains amnesia and pushes the above falsehood.

"The Heat have record setting cap space." -- Brian Windhorst

Brian ignores something called cap holds when he perpetrated this lie. He repeated it over and over in multiple articles and tv interviews. It very clearly isn't true. The only way to have had the cap space he claimed they had was to actually renounce the very players they were trying to re-sign. Couple this with how he painted the Cavs as having no cap space, and pushing how much they would have to jump through hoops to get some shows just how much he was coloring the news. He was correct that, at that very moment, the Cavs didn't have any cap space. But, he also had to know that they could renounce certain players at an instant when they choose to. This picking and choosing of when to acknowledge or ignore facts is what is bothering me. I don't like someone trying to bull shit me and expect that as a reader I am going to just accept it.

Kyrie only wanted out, because he hated Mike Brown. If we didn't fire Mike Brown, I'm not sure he signs that extension. I'm first to admit that I didn't like Kyrie's behavior at all last year, but I wouldn't have blamed him though.

Mike Brown sabotaged this team. But now he's gone, LB is back, we have a read coach, we're seeing these young guys ready to excel.

I'm in the same boat. I like him, but I think his integrity has taken a big hit since going to ESPN. Hell, anytime he writes an article, most of the comment section is directed at taking shots at him. A lot of the stuff he writes about, honestly, is garbage. Articles about the last time LeBron spoke to certain players on the Heat, I mean, seriously?

Windy has become more the gossip columnist for ESPN. But isn't that what's needed to work with that trash of a company?

I'm with Scholar as well.

Brian has said that he was trying to protect Cleveland from getting hurt again.

At the same time, it must be really easy to work for the TMZ of sports than to report "non-news".

It's much more interesting to men, women, and children to report gossip over real facts.

I'm hoping Windy will return to the Windy of old, but I don't think he'll be optimistic until we "host" that trophy.

Say what you want about Windy, but he isn't a Cleveland hater. That is silly.

No, it's not. His contract extension proved his desire to stay, whether everyone here wants to speculate otherwise or not.

This makes no sense to me and never has.

It's not contradictory to want out but at the same time realize it may not be the best choice. Two thoughts could have easily been in Kyrie's mind. 1) I want out but 2) I'm an injury prone guard who hasn't won 40 games. This might be my only shot at getting this type of money.

I never thought he'd turn down the contract, but I was fully expecting him to start trying to force a trade if things didn't start to turn around quickly.

Cant blame him. He has ridden Lebron's coattails his whole career. Might as well hold on as long as he can.

It's stupid to act like ESPN is telling him what to write. He didn't write that the Heat had record cap space because he was trying to spin it the way ESPN wanted (and why in the hell would they care whether LeBron stayed in the most apathetic sports town in America?), he wrote it because he genuinely did not know how the cap works.

I think it'd be worse if he genuinely didn't know how the cap works, that seems like relevant information for a national writer whose been covering the NBA for over a decade to know.

We're not even talking about messy things like the stretch provision or bi-annual exceptions here too, we're talking about cap holds. Does an average NBA fan understand basic concepts of the salary cap better than Windy? That's hard to believe.
