the bulls announcers were amazed he even made a layup... these people havent watched the Cavs since LeBron left or they would know Andy is All-Star caliber when healthy

2 years ago before his "split muscle" and his pulmonary embolus and when he had a coach that didnt run a constipated offense, I believe that Varejo had an elite PER actually 21.7 and was certainly on track for an all star birth.

The actual quote was "could've".

http://espn.go.com/nba/preview2014/story/_/id/11737310/lebron-cavs-impressed-bulls-rose

If Rose played 40 minutes Monday, the Bulls easily could've beaten the Cavs even had they given James a full run
Regardless of which quote is correct, considering Rose has played 40 minutes or more a grand total of 9 times since 2011, I don't think that was going to happen even under the best circumstances.

Also, I didn't read that game that way at all. Derrick Rose had his absolute best game in, I dunno know, 2 years last night? And our team played probably the worst it will play all year through 2.5 quarters, and we still handled them pretty well and were able to sit Lebron for a big stretch at the end of the game.

So yeah, miss me with that take Windy.

I read that as "it's quite possible that the Bulls could have beaten the Cavs", rather than "it would have been easy for the Bulls to beat the Cavs."

I think it was just a poor choice of words by Windy.
If Windy would have left out the adjective "easily" I think people would not have had as much of an issue with it.

Windy still comes off like a jilted lover to me.
But that's just me.

That's probably true, but the "easily" is kind of an important part of the prediction. Of course the Bulls could have beaten us. But easily? We rested LeBron for the entire end of the game right after he was getting whatever he wanted offensively. I also highly doubt we'll have Kyrie guarding Rose for long stretches of time in the postseason, but you don't show all your cards in a preseason game.

I think he just hedges his bets more- like anyone who has life experience. His reporting is colored by this now- I mean, it was pretty much spelled out that he didn't want CLE fans to get their hopes up before LBJ came back, which created a win-win for him when LBJ did come back.

His reporting carries that same hedging- if you are adult and can read between the lines, you're probably going to appreciate his insight more, despite his surface-layer negativity. I for one, am thrilled that he already has David Blatt addressing him by name in press-conferences- which is a win for us as fans as far as I'm concerned.

I respect Windy and his connections around the league, and he's always worth listening to. I've never cared for his actual basketball input though.

I don't care if he's not watched the Cavs in the last 4 years, he's got too much to cover, and we've been bad. But Andy has always been a good offensive player, and he should know that.

Offense goes beyond just scoring the basketball. That's why I laugh when someone tries to tell me Durant, or 'Melo are better offensive players than LeBron. That's just not true.

Andy has always been great at setting screens, rolling to the basket, getting offensive rebounds, put backs, and he's always been a very good passer. How does that not equate to good offense?

Hell, I think during LB's first stint he was the most consistent offensive player that he played with. Maybe not the best scorer, but the one guy LeBron could always rely on.

Forget how much he's improved since LB has left, Andy has always been a good offensive player.

Let's also not forget, this is not a knock on Rose. He's a GREAT individual player when he's 100% right. I'm not suggesting the Bulls are seriously better without him. But, I couldn't agree more with Austin and what he said last night. When he gets this way, it takes the rhythm out of the entire team.

It becomes Derrick Rose, and a bunch of guys around him. He likes to dominate the ball, and that takes the team out of rhythm.

I'm not saying the Bulls can't beat us, or be a legit threat. You'd have to be completely bias to not think if healthy, and clicking, they're going to be very good.

But, there's no way Derrick Rose can just dominate the game himself, and beat us in a 7 game serious. Not when LeBron James is on the other side.

Individual players don't beat LeBron. He's too good, you need to beat him as a team.

I was impressed how good Rose looked, but that kind of game isn't going to boat well if others can't get involved too.

But hey, it's preseason, I don't seriously take away much from that game yesterday, outside the fact both are very talented teams.

Rose can certainly play well enough to steal some games from superior teams. Can he win a series by himself against the top echelon teams? Of course not. LeBron couldn't even get to the finals with two 60 win teams, even though he was a superior player than Rose is now.

Rose's teams might be more talented than LeBron's old teams, but they're not talented enough to accomplish much more than those old teams.

Preseason people... On all sides

Bulls fans are drinking the koolaid but so are we

Ok so Andy isn't a good offensive player but he scored 22 points? Sign me up for a couple more players like that. Is Andy a go to player by himself no, but he was very effective with Lebron in the pick and roll the Lebron's first go round. Now he's added a mid range game to that. If you ask me he's exactly what we need out there a player who's going to score some points even without plays being run for him. He'll roll to the hoop, set up for mid range jumpers or score on put backs.

Windy is getting paid regardless. He's learned at ESPN that it's more fun to see our reactions when we disagree with someone's take. Windy is from Ohio, he's probably a homer at heart, but he has more fun, and is paid regardless so he's probably more entertained seeing us on the defensive side when he tries to take the neutral emotional take as of late. Us as Cleveland fans want Windy to see the Cavs for what we might become, and he's trying to represent what we are in the here and now. Since he's from Ohio himself, we as Clevelanders want Windy to see what we're all seeing and that's potential long-term contender.

What Windy actually believes isn't necessarily what he's publishing. It's more fun to write things that irk people, he's sterilizing his journalism from the emotion, momentum of team's, their chemistry, their coaching.

Enough of my rant,

Windy would look bad in front of his ESPN people if the Akron born Windhorst became a Cleveland homer.

So what you're really saying is, Windhorst is trolling us. That's all you're saying. Because, you tried to be nice and give him credit.. but the fact is we won by double digits yesterday, with both LeBron and Rose playing limited minutes. And yet he tried to paint an entirely different picture. I don't believe for one second it's because he's a "homer at heart", sorry. What the Cavs might become is a team that can beat the Bull even more easily than we did last night. He does realize we won.. fairly easily.. last night, right? I'm not saying you can draw a ton of conclusions from a preseason game.. but that's precisely what he is doing - in a game WE WON EASILY.

I'm truly tired of Windhorst. I don't know what his major malfunction is, but I'm sick of it. He's turned into a standard troll to me.

Yeah, that's a pretty ridiculous statement. He's a great passer for a big man (probably in the top five to ten in the league), has a solid mid-range game, is excellent on the pick-and-roll/pop, and can finish around the rim. He also has a pretty damn good post game that he's been showing off a lot in the pre-season. He doesn't have an outside shot, and he doesn't typically look to create for himself, but he's a very good, smart player on offense.

I used to cringe every time he even pump faked a shot.. Now, I actually love when he gets those mid-range open looks, as more often than not, he seems to knock them in.

And let's not forget his off the ball play (knowing when to cut, being in great position pretty much constantly, etc).

And he's actually become pretty good at creating for himself, specifically with that pump fake, which he gets guys to bite on quite often.

Really not sure how Windy came to the conclusion that Andy isn't a good offensive player..
