Windy Interview on leaving for ESPN

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This Heat Index has been in the works for months as well.

Gives more fuel to the LBJ-Wade-Bosh had this plan well before free agency.

I really hate the fucking Heat sooo much, I hope none of the RCF members check their website and give them hits. This is fucking retarded how much attention they are getting.

Hmm, I'm not sure that I would have bypassed an NYT or Yahoo job for this Heat thing. It will be smoking hot but for how long? I suppose if they put out a dynasty it could go on for a good 4 years or so before age starts catching up to DWade but after that Miami is a notoriously hot and cold place when it comes to sports.

On the other hand Windy has to be thinking that if he does a good job with this he will likely move on then to be a headliner on ESPN for the NBA and that is basically the pinnacle. Tough choice like he said but understandable and a gamble whose odds look reasonably good.

Good luck to him and a big thanks for his reporting. He handled leaving well: Wish the same could have been said about Lebron in his final postseason and offseason. Almost wished he would have left after the Boston series from 2 years ago. He left it on the table that series - not the bitter stench of this Boston series. That's all you can ask of any athlete: do the best job you can when you play.

Goddammit. As much as I am pissed, I can see why he left.

Windy was a great writer, and a great insight into the Cavs. Losing him really hurts. It's a shame how much LeBron's decision negatively impacted this organization, at least for the short term. W&G said it, the rats definitely jumped ship. Like Kanye says, "No one [LeBron] should have all that power".

Jason Whitlock got 700K a year to jump to Fox Sports so I'm assuming ESPN backed up the Brinks truck for Windhorst as well making it a no brainer. I doubt The PD could get in the ballpark.

What? No calls for franchise tags for mid-market newspaper reporters?

I find it laughable how many of you are letting this guy off the hook. Geez, stand up for what your city and team represents. This move was about following James' coattails and, IMO, all but confirms why he failed to embody any real conviction or sting in his articles following James bailing on the organization. Also explains why he chastised Gilbert's reaction email.

Now to his credit, he basically admitted he's going to Miami to sniff James' ass, but spare me the nonsense about having property there or how the Heat are such a 'big' story. Sure had had property there for four years and didn't re-locate until now.

Wonder why?

And as far as following a story - huh? I'm not a journalism major but isn't that what you're NOT supposed to do? Particularly when it comes to uprooting your family.

Even moreso, the most appalling aspect of this 'decision' is that it reveals Brian doesn't believe in this current rendition of Cavs. I mean, seriously, people act like we got 2002 talent on this squad. What if the Cavs surprise pundits and become an above average team? Maybe a 50 win team? What if Gilbert uses the TE and steals another complimentary player that solidifies the Cavs as an annual playoff contender?

Is this not a great 'story'?

You damn right it is. And it'll be a story Brian never gave himself a chance to cover cause he's not a believer either. Well if he is, he obviously believes in the spoils of covering James more.

Just another traitor to add to the list. Who was that reporter who called out Windy for having bought a place down in Miami during the decision?? I forgot

I can't blame him too much. He pretty much said he was going to do it. I will miss his work though. It just really hits hard that yesterday the Cavs were something, and now no one gives a shit and everything is irrelevant.

whitlock makes 700k a year at fox? shit, no brainer move for windy. thanks to him for everything he did while he was here.

crazy, we've lost the two-time mvp, both of our centers, our sixth man, our gm, our assistant gm, our coaching staff and now our beat reporter

I'm sorry but some of the people in this thread are being fucking babies about this......

Windhorst is a damn good beat writer and by all accounts. Covering a lottery team or covering a historic team nationally? You make that choice.

I'm bummed because I think Windy is top shelf....but not gonna hold it against him that he took a promotion. And ya know what? When windy writes his first article questioning Lebron nationally, you'll be back on his nuts.

Stay classy cleveland FFS

The Cavs are a lottery team?

Says who?

You?

And even if they are, so what? They won't remain that way cause you have a great owner. Windy failed to see this, which is why his credibility is shot if on the rare chance, you know, if the Cavs remain a good team with championship pedigree, Windy will be laughed at by the local media.

One for All, All for One.

Not really sure why most of you don't understand this.

Wow you're an a-hole. Is this your way of jealously downplaying Windy's great work he's served us with for 7 years? Go write another Chris Mihm story.

How does Jason Whitlock compare to Windy's situation at all? He was a writer with the Kansas City Star until about a month and a half ago after being there for 16 years, while doing work for ESPN and FS through the years. The only way they compare is in girth.

Regardless... to most of us, this loss hurts more than losing the piece of dirt in free agency. Windy was very much a fan like us, who despite his consistent journalistic integrity reported things that we fans wanted to hear on RCF chats, Twitter and Cleveland.com for quite some time. Though he rose to fame in the same way and timeframe that James did, Windy was thought to be one of us, a true and true fan deep down, and brought a refreshing rare perspective.

He's done an excellent job keeping fans on their toes and serving as a go-to be all end all for Cavaliers knowledge. Unfortunately those days are over now. I for one will miss Windy and will read his articles from time to time just as a reminder of what used to be as Branson Wright, Mary Schmitt Boyer, Bob Finnan, and Jason Lloyd all try to pick up the pieces. Good luck Windy, make that dough and enjoy Miami, you deserve it. :hail:

How was MYoung in any way being disrespectful?

Let's be realistic now...I am on your side but Windy will be washing LBJ's nuts, not taking shots at him. He is part of ESPN now. When did ESPN last criticize LBJ?

There's so much wrong with this post, I don't even know where to start. Maybe I'll feel like it later, but this is way way off base.
