Windy Interview on leaving for ESPN

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I never thought I'd be upset over a writer but Windy is really something and will be missed. Thank god for the guys at numebrsdont and cavstheblog, I expect them to burden the load of good writing and useful insights. Time to raise to the occasion guys

Of all the places Windhorst could go, he had to go to ESPN to cover Lebron and the Heat? I've enjoyed his work and can certainly understand his decision but this is another F U among many for the average Cleveland sports fan (not from BW personally but that we're once again losing out).
If people want to get an idea of what the PD Cavs coverage will now look like, as of 5 pm today the last bit of Cavs news reported came Sunday afternoon.

Some of you are out of your mind. He is just a beat writer. I never read any of his articles directly because 98% of them rehashed what was being said on this site by guys who are not "insiders". He is someone who protected himself and his interests by NOT writing about what was really happening behind the scenes in the playoffs. Had he written some negative articles about what really happened with Lebron, do you think he would have gotten this offer from ESPN? He works for Lebron and always has.

I will miss nothing from him leaving...and really don't care that he is. Just like Lebron though, I feel he "tanked" at the end.

This seems like damage control at it's finest for ESPN.

Windy is a great reporter, don't get me wrong but ESPN certainly has a vested interest in not letting a lot of the things Brian knows ever see the light of day.

ESPN doesn't want negative stories surrounding LeBron, so it certainly makes sense to hire one of the guys who has the most dirt on him.

I guess all you can say is: He's taking his talents down to South Beach!

Again, you sound like a moron. I'm not on RCF all day or on any other board all day or night. I never once mentioned post count, reputation or anything else. I would crush your fan boy argument because I have given this subject a lot of thought and I have a well thought reason as to why a franchise tag isn't needed in the NBA.

But hey, you're the guy who wrote three paragraphs or so defending the "honor" of Brian Windhorst like some male groupie based on a joke line that no one else had an issue with so actually debating you on basketball might be fruitless endeavor since I'm not sure you have anything to say.

Instead of continuing to to take shots at me defend your position with some actual points.

Psh, please. You are on here all day and all night... and I think the posting patterns and mods could confirm that. But I shouldn't really knock you for that, because I appreciate the true Cleveland fans that care that much to devote that kind of time. There really aren't that many of us and I believe it should be commended.

Fan boy argument? :chuckles: ... Come on my brotha I knew you were joking and I didn't find the humor in it... Your humor is often dry and badly misses due to your constant "holier than thou" attitude about every single subject.... Your arguments on topics just like the franchise tag every time begin and end with the same premise: "I think this and if you think different, you're automatically wrong." Any disagreement with you is a fruitless endeavor, and I blame myself for starting this mess.

It appears I'm going down that same pointless road in arguing the merits of a franchise tag in the NBA, and I already stated one of the many reasons why I think the franchise tag could help the NBA. The NBA is heading in the direction of major league baseball, where the little guys will have no chance of maintaining success against the bigger markets. The inmates are running the asylum in the NBA now, with punks like James bolting from organizations that have shown them nothing but support and punks like Carmelo Anthony demanding trades with a year left on his max contract, where the team already offered him over $20 million a season. I'm going to leave it at that and not pursue anything more with this "argument."

All I did in my initial post was decipher the way off base Jason Whitlock and Windy comparison, and I then thanked Windy for his years of service and commended his financial decision, despite my distaste for his choice on a personal level. I'm not a male groupie for Windy, nor close to it, and I think a lot of the points I made in my first post would be agreed with by many. "PS" Who's attacking who now?

I wish him well but it is what it is.

Brian has always been a standup guy, I'm just disappointed a lot of the stories he would have written in reference to LeBron will be buried for a long time (i.e. free agency things and what teams did).

It's obviously time to move on but I still find it a bit curious that's all.

i understand him leaving....but being part of a circus like "the heat index" is just sad. the "heat index" lacks all integrity and falls into the same scumbag territory as "the decision"...hype, fluff, gossip...that shit ain't journalism. it's media manipulation.

As a journalism hopeful and eventual Kent State grad, I'm glad Brian is able to move up. It's going to suck to have Branson Wright as the beat reporter but we'll get past this just like we get through every sports tradegy.

I cant blame Windy one bit. This is not comparable to LBJudas' situation. LeBron could have stayed in Cleveland made more money, been a hometown hero, continued to win MVP's and eventually probably won a championship. In Journalism it doesn't work that way. In this situation Windy has to make this decision. His stock will NEVER be so high again, period. He is not a multimillion dollar athlete, this is a huge jump for his career. It provides job security and financially is a no brainer. In today's society print journalism ie. newspapers nothing is safe. Eventually newspapers will dwindle and beat writers will begin to see pay cuts especially good ones. There is always some journalism major who would love to cover their hometown sports team for a hell of a lot less. Again I agree with this decision by Windy and in fact when I saw him at the Wine and Gold Scrimmage I told him good luck and congrats. He smiled and shook his head.... which continues to show how upfront and classy he has handled this. He even commented on it in the RCF.com chat. He was not obligated to say anything he could have took the typical, I cant comment on that right now approach. But for the most part he was straight forward. Good for him and Congrats Windy,

How does a guy turn down the fricken NY Times to be Lebron's gentleman's gentleman. Cant figure that out.
