Wojo is reporting that we got Kapono ...

which team got the right to swap picks next year, it's been reported both ways.

Not sure where it's been reported both ways..

Lakers have the the option to swap positions in the 2013 draft with the Miami pick the Cavs own...

Chad Ford
Blazers are blowing this thing up. Rockets, Lakers, Pacers, Spurs are upping the stakes. Not sure what Clev & Nets are doing

Really?

Loved this trade the moment it was announced. Loved it 10x as much when it was announced Kapono was included.

Really?

Lol...for some reason, there's people in the national media that were under the assumption that Sessions was and should be part of our core. The fact is he was gone after this year. It was simply a move to be able to bring in young talent via the draft. Walton probably gets bought out or but in offseason and Kapono expires. Eyenga was garbage. 'nuff said

Really?

Ford again proves he's a moron.
Need to find confirmation about whether we or the Lakers have the right to switch picks next year. That could prove useful if we have the right to do it: Kobe and Pau are getting older and injuries do happen. Need to find a way for Vanessa Bryant to hookup with Pau or Metta World Peace to blow that shit up :chuckles:

ESPN is now reporting that the Lakers pick traded to the Cavs this year is protected (Top-14) in case the Lakers collapse. That's what smart teams do (especially in the wake of the Clippers/Cavs trade). Shouldn't matter in the end, but you just don't take chances with unprotected picks when you can help it. I guess we'll get the whole rundown from Chris Grant (press conference at 4:30)

If MB is all about defense, then how is he gonna manage Ramon's horrible defense. Then again, it's an upgrade over Fisher/Blake's non-existent defense.

Oh...and welcome RaIso

Cleveland: D

If Dan Gilbert is paying attention, he should ask David Stern to void this trade for "basketball reasons."

First, let's follow the dead money. Walton makes $6.1 million next year with his trade kicker; Eyenga makes $1.1 million; neither or them are likely to play much or do anything of consequence if they do. So Cleveland swallows $5 million in dead 2012-13 salary.

For the privilege, they get a first-round pick from L.A. that will likely be in the 20s. The interesting part here is that when teams have done cash-for-late-first-rounder deals, they've typically valued the pick in the $3-4 million range. At best, the Cavs slightly overpaid on this part of the equation.

But wait, they also gave up a really good point guard! The Lakers essentially got Sessions for free; it was a fair deal just to give them a first-rounder to take Walton off their hands.

And there's more, although it's of lesser value. The Cavs also sent L.A. the right to swap first-round picks with Miami in 2013; the Cavs currently own the Heat's pick that year.

L.A. Lakers: A-

The only reason I put a "minus" here is my one misgiving about Sessions' fit into the Lakers' offense. He's a slashing, pick-and-roll point guard who needs the ball in his hands; spacing the floor for Kobe isn't really his thing. He'll likely be at his best when Bryant is off the floor, as the catalyst for the second unit.

With that said, Sessions is such a huge upgrade on the Lakers' current point guard mess it's not even funny, and it will likely take much of the strain off their three stars to play 40 minutes a game and take all the shots.

Defensively, he's kind of a sieve, and so he won't cure the vulnerability to quick point guards that has bedeviled the Lakers for years. But he's a good rebounder and, again, his ability to create off the dribble gives them a dimension that was badly lacking.

Sessions is also a free agent after the season, potentially; he has an opt-out in his contract. The nice thing about being the Lakers, however, is that nobody is a flight risk. If the Lakers want to keep him, they almost certainly can.

This was a terrible trade for us. Some of you are thinking it was a great deal because we got a pick. what you should be wondering is how did our GM get taken to the woodshed so badly. The Lakers were DESPERATE to upgrade their PG situation. 2:59 they would have called us with a 10x better deal than this one. We were NOT desperate. Worst thing for us is we would have had $5M in additional cap space to make other deals-maybe even acquire a better pick or player in the future with it.

Interesting analysis but the only thing he is missing is this will probably have a net negative effect on our win total enabling us to get a better player in the draft and we have never been able to buy a pick despite all the predraft hype that we are going to.

We definitely lost it, but I still want that 1st rounder. Sounds likme Mitch made Grant beg for it.

Disagree. Money doesn't matter at all to us. We got a 1st rounder for a guy that was going to leave at the end of the year, and also a $6 million expiring next year. What if the Lakers went on and signed some other point guard? We'd be stuck. Grant did well. We now have 4 picks in this draft. Tons of flexibility.
