World Cup '14 thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Man feel kind of bad for South America. Think they're clearly the best region in the world, and they are about to take each other starting saturday.

Brazil Vs Chile - Goodbye Chile

Columbia Vs Uruguay - Goodbye Uruguay

Anyone thinks US has a chance against Belgium ? Belgium has some very creative players who can unlock decent defenses and USA has a disciplined defense - but not a dominant one and also the US does not seem capable of playing possession football for long periods of time. Need the USA offense to be clinical and for the defense to be over cautious.

Hope they have top security for the ref if Brazil loses this

First time actually watching soccer. I don't know the rules really

Shootout was super cool

Guess I'll break down these round of 16 matches a little bit.

Mexico- Netherlands

I've been impressed with the Dutch thus far. Although Mexico's goalie has been terrific, I think the Dutch break through and take this one. Look for them to go pretty far as the draw sets up nicely for them and Argentina to meet in the semis.

Costa Rica - Greece

The Ticos have been one of the surprises of the tournament. It was posted earlier, but the Greeks are tough to watch with their style of play. I am picking Costa Rica to get through this one.

France- Nigeria

The French have been strong and seem to be continuing their pattern of one good World cup followed by one bad one. This year is their turn for a good one. Although, I think the Germans stop them in the quarters. Nigeria hasn't been impressive at all in this World Cup IMO. I see this as a mismatch

Germany-Algeria

This is probably the biggest mismatch of the round. Germany should advance without problems.

Argentina-Switzerland

The Swiss have been unimpressive and their defense has been shaky. Argentina should roll.

USA - Belgium

Belgium hasn't been impressive in this tournament. But, I think they are far more creative and talented on offense than the Americans. I have to go with Belgium here.

Of course the Americans are capable on winning. Belgium hasn't played up to potential thus far and is a far easier draw than someone like the Germans or Argentina. There is some reason for optimism. But, I picked Belgium to win for a couple of the reasons that you stated. The Americans are really lacking in passing and creativity. It is going to be hard for them to score against better opponents unless there is a giveaway of some sort.

Belgium is who I'm rooting for to win it all if they beat USA. Very fun and young team with talent to watch, but as has been stated, have not played up to their potential, yet have won all their matches. Let's hope US steps it up to their potential.

I'm rooting for team USA - Apart from the obvious, It will do wonders to Soccer in US if this team can advance.

NFL should sue FIFA. They stole the plot from the Browns-Patriots game and used it in the Mexico-Netherlands match.

We have the same picks for who should make it through this round, but they're slightly obvious because they are all mismatches. Though other than Columbia and Uruguay, the games have been incredibly competitive. That's why, even when there is a major mismatch, it's still an elimination game where anything can happen. I think USA/Belgium is going to be an amazing match.

Can't believe there isn't a single post about the masterpiece that Tim Howard is putting together right now (in the 86')... win, lose or draw he's put on a performance.

Extra Time and we let De Bryne score! Dang !! Hope US can respond.

US looking slow now - dunno if it is fatigue or disappointment
