World Cup - Moscow Edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good Lord what an awful opening match. Got spoiled by the last two World Cups, getting a fun SAF team and watching Brazil in all its glory.

I'll just throw it out there, but to me, Jordan/LeBron is a closer debate. For my money Messi is the best to ever do it. I come from a soccer family (from eastern Europe after all) so I've seen my fair share of everyone, but dude is special.
I saw him last summer in a friendly against Manchester United. I have never seen anything like it. Messi would walk up the pitch, but because he accelerates so quickly, United was effectively man-marking him.

I have only watched soccer for five years, and I missed most of Messi's prime, but he is one of the most dominant athletes I have ever seen.

I'm a casual soccer fan, following Polska this year since no US. Any other Polska fans here?

Saudi Arabia passed the ball 255 times more than Russia. Russia had fifteen more passes in the attacking third.

Russia is content letting their opponent pass as much as they want on their own half of the pitch. It's a similar strategy to what Atletico does in La Liga.

So, USA, Mexico and Canada will jointly host the 2026 World Cup (PLEASE GET A GAME AT FIRST ENERGY STADIUM...I WILL START SAVING NOW!).

Does that mean all 3 countries get auto bids?

Well there isn't going to be a game at First Energy, when they were putting the bid together Cleveland was at least in the running along with something like 50-75 other cities and were eliminated at one of the cut downs. I think they still are going to cut down the list of 20 or so US cities they have left so cities aren't set in stone yet but I believe Cincinnati would be the closest city to us possibly getting a game.

As for the auto bids I think FIFA is still in the process of deciding that but I wouldn't be surprised if they all got bids the only previous precedent of a combined bid with Cup Korea/Japan both got auto bids. Either way with the expanded cup, the US confederation CONCACAF will be getting something like 5-6 slots in the tournament so it shouldn't be a problem anyways.

Rough game for Suarez, but doesn't matter

Gonna be on a plane for spain vs portugal and I'm not buying wifi.
Where do you guys usually watch replays?

Anyone see that terrible own goal by Morocco? Looked like the dude did it on purpose.
