Have you tried the DS4 over the DS3 gouri? MUCH improved.

I have used it while here in the Philippines.. It's nice.. But, I always REALLY liked the DualShock controller. Maybe I don't play it enough though.

You sound like you're talking about most innovative rather than best.

There's a bit of that in there, but I'm certainly referring to GOAT.

The 360 controller didn't re-invent the wheel. The wheel didn't need re-inventing at the time. It just needed some polish, and that's what the 360 offered. There's a reason I still use that controller for PC games (that aren't better with mouse and keyboard...Watch Dogs for example) over any other offering. It's simply the best.

It's great, and I do like it. It's a streamlined Xbox S controller which was a streamlined Xbox controller which was a Dreamcast-Nights hybrid.

But comparing it across genres? I'd take the DualShock for almost any game that's not an FPS.

RPGs? Sixaxis is perfect..
Fighters? 360 controller is unusable... anything is better.
Action games? I tend to have much faster action on the DS.
Adventure? Same as above.
FPS? 360's concave analog sticks, that are staggered along the y-axis of the controller is just an incredibly ergonomic design for this type of game. It's really vastly superior to the DS in this regard.
Racing? No question, the DS. The staggered controllers are a hinderance in this type of game for me. Also, I prefer the smoother (looser) action on the DS for these types of games.

I also love that the 360 (and Xbone) controllers prioritize the joystick over the D-pad, too. It feels like they actually have a sense of what types of games people are actually playing these days.

I don't think prioritize makes sense for the 3rd generation of Microsoft's consoles, and the 4th generation of it's controller. They've had more than enough time to fix the broken d-pad. It's not an issue of priorities as much as they simply aren't willing to acknowledge the problem. The d-pad on the Xbox controllers has always been awful.

With regards to what people play, well, Microsoft is essentially telling me, a fighting game enthusiast, not to play fighters on their console. Now if you want to know, I do not use the DS for most fighting games I play anyway - I own a MadCatz FightStick for those games. But the difference between the DS and the 360 controller is that you simply cannot play at a high level with the Xbox pad and buttons which are fat and slow. You can play at a high level with a PS controller.

The DS4's stick placement still feels stuck in the past.

It's not optimal for first-person shooters. That's really all it boils down to. The Microsoft controller is perfect for FPS -- and much less useful than the DS for basically anything else. So, it's a compromise.

If the majority of games that you play are FPS like Call of Duty (or Halo, in my case), then yes, the 360 controller is a must. I wouldn't even want to play a FPS on the Playstation because of the controller and how inferior it is for FPS. But for anything else, it's hard to see the 360's advantages -- especially for games that use the d-pad, games that require extremely fast button presses (as in within specific frames), or games that need complex button combinations. Those games would be best played on a DS controller.

And just to add to the list above.. I'd rather play Fallout with a DS controller simply because most of the time, you're either not fighting or fighting in VATS. So using a Sixaxis is perfect and very relaxing.

But I'd rather play Bioshock with a 360 controller...

Hope that makes sense.

The 360 controller is definitely GOAT. The DS4, as good as it is can't take a beating like my 360 controller. In fact, I had it from day one and the two controllers I bought back then are still with me today. Meanwhile, the PS4 analog sticks are getting slippery and are showing wear already. For someone who plays A LOT of Fifa, grippy analog sticks are KEY. I will probably have to mod it soon. Thing I HATE about the Xbox controllers is how expensive the play and charge kits are.

I think the 360 controller and the DS are basically a wash in most of the genres you listed, gouri. I don't really see a discernible difference when playing an RPG, an action game, an adventure game, etc with either controller, although I do find Microsoft's controller more comfortable in general. The DS4 made leaps in that area, but it's still not quite as nice as holding the Xbone controller.

The 360 has the obvious advantage in third and first-person shooters, especially when you also take into account how great the triggers (although the DS4 did improve in this area a bit).

The DS is obviously better for fighting games.

I agree not fixing the D-Pad was stupid. It's better on the Xbone controller, though.

Still feel like PS4 is the obvious choice if we're basing it off of games. Naughty Dog (Uncharted 4) and Sucker Punch (Infamous series) really give Sony the advantage. Not wowed by anything yet from Microsoft.

IMO the Halo remake outsells any of those games you mentioned.

But can we all at least agree that they made the best controller? :chuckles:

That thing is seriously GOAT.

Opinions, how do they work...

I mostly play rpgs, and when i do it is for hours, not 3 hours, not 5 hours, 10+ if i like it. I always found the 360 pad too heavy for extended periods.

Now with the one controller it feels lighter, although i haven't used it for extended periods. It is 2014 and in order to get the same out of box functionality out of the one controller as the ds4 you need to spend an extra 40 or 50 bucks... awesome that's a game.

I have a destiny alpha code if anyone is interested i can't play this weekend unfortunately. Ps4 only, if you didn't know.

I traded in my ps4 for a X box one and I have to admit, so far I like the X box one more. :hide:

Agreed.. I even would notice the weight after extended Halo sessions. I would sometimes play for 8-10 hours though.. But, yeah.. it gets heavy in the hand, and often led to me getting cramps in my palm. Although that would also happen with really extended play on the PS2 (SF3).

It's why, for all the shit it gets, I still like the Sixaxis.

3 of my friends with PS4's have already said they're going to have to pony up for an XB1 this fall because of the Master Chief Collection, and two said they may consider selling their PS4 to do so. Don't underestimate the impact that collection will have, especially on PS4 owners who were previous XB360 users.

Sounds like people that bandwagoned on Ps4 for whatever reason, and they had Xbox 360s before. Am I right?

And I just read the last sentence. I must be right.:chuckles:

I agree. I've got both and my Xbone has seen way more playtime. That said, not really fair to judge at this point as their just aren't enough games. I'd say the xbox had a far better launch in terms of games and what not, though both launches were weak.

Not to mention I love all the other xbox features.

Underrated feature of the Xbone that I had no idea about: When you turn it off while you are playing a game, the next time you turn it on, you can pick up that game exactly where you left off, no loading time, no starting the game. If you were on a pause menu before you turned it off, you can pick up your game from that exact pause menu. It's like I never turned it off in the first place.

My Xbox is being shipped next week. Comes with Forza and I'm buying Titanfall. Any other games I should check out? Already finished WatchDogs, have BF4, Fifa and NBA 2K14 on my PS4.

Killer Instinct and Power star Golf are amazing value @ $20 each
