A closer look at Harrison Barnes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm really loving all this early draft talk, I finally have something to look forward to after this season as we all build up hope for our new franchise player. In the past, the draft was different we really have no idea what we are getting unless you follow college basketball religiously. As a busy guy, I am unable to watch all college games so I depended on downloadable video clips from Limewire and draft talk websites. In this YouTube generation, it makes it a ton easier to find out who the next top talents would be. I'll be honest, I was fooled by Harrison Barnes with his mixtapes during offseason, but thank you internet again, Harrison Barnes looks like the next coming of a Glenn Robinson type player.

at the moment he hasnt displayed the big dogs scoring ability, but he seems like he might be as disappointing. Shame i was really hoping for grant hill

We fans now get disappointed if players don't immediately explode on the scene and then label them as disappointing. Many players still do need a few more years to develop.
I don't know what Barnes will ultimately become but there is a lot of talent there and it's way too soon to write him off. He would be much better off staying at UNC and continuing his growth and development.

people said that about me but i never amounted to anything:sad:

Barnes has trouble beating college players off the dribble and isn't vertically explosive enough to just go over them either. Consequently, I'm constantly seeing him dribble drive one or two steps not actually toward the basket, with his defender still on his hip, then throw up an awkward shot as he realizes his position just won't get any better...

If he's having these sorts of problems at this level, I don't see how he's going to be anything more than a role player in the NBA, and that's assuming he remembers how to shoot. Josh Childress ceiling here, or am I being overly critical?

The thing that has thrown me about Barnes is that I knew he wasn't going to be a guy who got to the rim off the dribble with ease. His offensive game has devolved since high school and he no longer adheres to a lot of the fundamentals that had scouts in a frenzy over him. He has lost the ability to focus enough to go straight up on a shot and he always seems so flustered when he gets something called for him and people don't just let him waltz slowly to the rim. His jumper has disappeared(or rather never appeared) and I think you can attribute it to a breakdown in fundamentals and now confidence which is a dangerous thing for a college player to have a breakdown in.

Right now I wouldn't take Barnes in the top 10.

UNC vs Miami (Fla.) 7:30 EST

I think if Harrison Barnes starts putting a few good games together he will fly up draftboards faster than anyone. The reasons being, he is a natural leader, he plays excellent defense, has done about everything well for a freshman except for scoring. Some may not feel the same way, but if he gets a couple 20 point games while being agressive offensively I could see him right back in the top 5. IMO, he does everything else too well not to be.

I am really hoping Barnes finds his game the rest of tis season. He was my top pick before the season started, with Irving right behind.

HARRISON BARNES LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! GAME WINNER VS. MIAMI. He may not be meeting expectations, but he has ICE IN HIS VEINS.

The WFNY guy called Barnes "a steal." If he meant steal money from a team, yeah. Harrison Barnes has probably been the least impressive draft prospect I've seen so far. If you took the name off the back of the jersey you'd be hard pressed to see anything that screams "first round pick."

He needs a lot of work and right now a good chunk of it is probably mental.

From watching him play, he oozes a quiet confidence. Wants to take the big shots. Very smart and plays relatively under control and within the framework of the offense.

But he really doesn't explode off the floor and has some issue finishing over bigger players. Also his playmaking skills are a question mark as I see his first step is not exceptional.

If he comes out, him and Terrence Jones are on the same plane scouting report wise. But T. Jones has a better first step and absorbs contact better.

What do ya'll thing, is Barnes a bonafide shooting guard in the league?

I would like to see him stay another year in college....then have us take a shot at him in the 5-10 range if no phenoms out. If he comes this year I would not mind buying into the late first or using a second rounder on him.
