Just checked in.. can anyone clear up the swap for me? Next year we can swap the Miami pick for the Lakers or is it vice versa?

i think there are a whole lot of people on this board blinded to the "first rounder". this trade was more or less sessions for a very low first round pick. a pick that can generally be bought on draft night (though obviously the cavs have never done it). while draft picks are great a low first rounder in the NBA produces players like eyenga and walton. guys that 50% of the time wash out, and never really become anything more than at the best end of the bench players.

was it the best offer the cavs had, sure. that doesnt make it a good trade for the cavs. that said clearly this will make them worse, which maybe is actually their goal, in which case they accomplished it

A pick in the mid 20's in the 2012 draft is going to be a very nice player. But, we have some high 2nd round picks as well, and we might be able to parlay some of those and make some moves upward to get a coveted player as well... All the more flexibility in a very very deep draft. Can't have enough of that come draft day...

Lol at those Laker fans. They are in for a rude awakening because I also thought Sessions was a good passer from his Milwaukee days. He was very comfortable coming off the bench. Going to LA having to set up Kobe and their bigs imo he is going to have a hard time knowing when to get his points and when to set up the offense.

I love how everyone outside of Cleveland feels like they robbed us blind. They are in for a rude awakening. Who knows, maybe next year Kobe isn't superman-esque in his abilities to play through lingering injuries, and Bynum gets another injury (which he has proven to do from time to time...) then we are looking at a much better pick then the one we got this year. We have a shit ton of assets available to us come draft time. That will be a very fun night.

Also with Kapono standing in the corners, Kyrie's assist numbers will go up when he dishes out to someone who can make a three, at least this year.

i still don't understand the Eyenga-Kapono aspect of the trade. Look, I don't expect Eyenga to be an all-star or anything, but he certainly has potential to be a defensive stopper and a rotation player. yeah he's a little immature, but man I just don't see the reason to give up on him right now.

i agree on you with 99% of things W&G, but youre speculating that this pick might be a very good player, maybe it does but chances are against that.

But more to the point the cavs not only gave up sessions, but took on cash, for a low pick. to call this a win for the cavs is a huge stretch. they cavs gave up the best player (by far) in this trade, and they took on a medium sized contract all for a first rounder in the 20s. Now maybe this pick allows the cavs to move up, or ends up becoming an all star, but its impossible to argue against the fact that you hope a pick at 25 becomes a player as good as sessions.

rcf after deadline if sessions isnt traded: "wtf why didnt we trade sessions, chris grant is terrible"
rcf after deadline when sessions is traded: "why didnt grant try harder and get a better deal?"

this was a good deal for us. we have no need for that cap space, we can grab a nice player with that pick.

I think and Poll supports most ppl agree. Only as of like 7pm Eastern have a few people . . .

Stop putting words in my mouth.

It's funny because mostly everyone is praising Grant as if he were the reason this trade were made but in reality it doesn't happen without Gilbert. Sorry, I'm not going to blindly praise someone when he couldn't negotiate the best deal possible and instead had to rely on an owner to essentially bail him out.

I wonder at what point people will actually criticize Grant.

People are missing the point here. I agree with you on this (which is a rarity). It is not about not wanting the pick or even about keeping Ramon. It is not about "it is not my money".

It is that our GM did not realize when he had all the negotiating power in the deal.

The Lakers are saving $12M+ by moving Walton(luxery tax)--that alone is worth a first rounder.
Sessions, who will be their starting PG is worth at least a late first as a player.

Who the F else was going to give them a starting PG plus take Walton??? Who? Charlotte? They are losing their asses, they ain't taking money on. Who else? Grant had the fucking "nuts" and decided to split the pot.

We essentially gave up a late first (Eyenga, who I would have liked to see more of,especially in place of Parker,Caspi, but I guess once in Byron's doghouse, there is no getting out) PLUS a starting PG plus $5 Million for a late first(the Lakers may end up with 4th best record now) and the right to most likely move up maybe 3 to 5 spots next year.

You're judging this like it was a talent-for-talent trade (plus $5M difference in salary).

But it instead was a "what can we get for a departing player" trade.

I understand if you think a low-1st-round pick may not turn out to be as much of a contributor as Sessions. But what if the Cavs hadn't made the trade? Then, you would just have an empty locker that used to say Sessions. And that would have been better?

People keep referring to the Cavs getting a Lakers pick next year. They have a pick in the 2012 draft, correct? I didn't see anything about them getting another Lakers pick from the 2013 draft. Can someone explain?

Jesus.... You people are stupid.

Sessions was a back up PG who was leaving in the offseason. Combine those two factors and we got more than fair value in this trade.

Even if you don't factor in him leaving, a late 1st round pick is more valuable to a rebuilding team than the best back up PG in the world.
