Um what exactly are the Indians acquiring is the question.

We've been discussing this for 3 days. Look through the thread.

Just because you don't recognize their names, doesn't mean they aren't worthy of trading for.

Stop being a troll.

Why the hell do the Indians threads get trolled all the time? I seriously don't get it.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

In all honesty, I'm not trying to troll. Just find it entertaining that the Indians will once again be trading major league talent for some stiffs (allegedly). Not that I think Cabrera is the second coming or anything.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

Major league talent is defined as players who have played on 25 man rosters. Its not that special. We have a bunch of players on our roster who have won less than 70 games 3 out of the past 4 years. There should be no hesitancy to move some of these guys for new combination of players/roster structure in hopes of changing the culture, acquiring young talent, and starting to win under Francona.

Before you make the judgement on the trade at least look up the guys we would be getting.....if we got Bauer, Olt AND Corbin that would be an awesome deal for us....it adds young major-league level talent in big areas of need...if they make this deal in the morning I will be more excited about the team than I have been in a long time....it is worth it since Aviles can play shortstop ....or we will bag Dee Gordon...we will see, but this deal would be a great 1st step in rebuilding this pitching staff

By major league talent I mean guys who have been successful at the major league level in some capacity.

Don't see that here.

I looked them up. I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about prospects that aren't at the top of the lists so naturally I had to do a few Google searches. In the back of my mind, I couldn't help but get excited as usual when I hear a Cleveland team in a blockbuster trade but even before I did my searches I knew it'd be a bunch of guys with virtually no major league success at all. Sure enough, it was, and although I quickly lost interest and admittedly didn't look much further after I found that out, it didn't seem like these guys were terribly highly touted anyways.

So adding more above average prospects/players to this roster is the answer to competing soon?

You're right. Bauer, the #9 rated prospect in all of baseball before last season is definitely a stiff. Tyler Skaggs who is also rumored was #13. Olt #43. They've played a combined 26 games between the 3 of them so far in the majors, definitely enough time to call them stiffs...

Didn't see Skaggs' name, only saw Olt/Bauer/Corbin. Must have missed it.

As far as Bauer, found this nugget:

ESPN notes that the Diamondbacks may be growing tired of Bauer's personality and high walk totals:

There are some uniformed personnel in Arizona who don't believe that Bauer will ever have the command and control in the zone to live up to his potential, while others are frustrated by his stubborn nature. If the D-backs have an opportunity to trade him for a long-term solution at shortstop or third base, they're sure to listen.

Teams that may be interested in Bauer include the Indians, Rangers and Nationals. Those clubs recognize that Bauer does have the pitches to become a top-level starter, as his strikeout numbers at all levels have been impressive. In 14 starts with Triple-A Reno, he averaged 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings, then fanned 9.4 per nine innings in four appearances with the Diamondbacks.

Unfortunately, he also walked 7.2 batters per nine innings with Arizona. He has hovered around four walks for every nine innings in the minors, and it appears the Diamondbacks are done with trying to fix his control issues.

So he has strikeout stuff.

But another organization is so sick of trying to fix his issues they're willing to get rid of him for improvement elsewhere.

Sounds promising. The Indians have big time history trying to fix pitchers with mechanical issues and high walk totals recently. I'm not sensing any possible trainwreck here.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

I'd consider Bauer highly touted

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

Yeah, sounds like he might have good stuff. Just horrendous control of it.

We'll see how it works out if this deal goes down.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

Here's the funny thin about being an Indians fan - we all complain when a good player is traded for prospects, but more often than not, those prospects turn into good players that we later have to trade.

It sucks that CC, Lee, Grady, Hafner, Victor, Westbrook aren't on the team anymore - and it sucks that Asdrubal, Choo, Perez, Masterson might get traded - but it's also fairly incredible that they've manage to find this many good players.

I've sad it before - this team gets TRASHED for trading back-to-back Cy Young winner while never getting credit for the fact they produced back-to-back Cy Young winners.

Now if they could just turn these good players into wins.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Francona hired)

Apparently, on MLB Network Radio they had on Jim Bowden who said the Indians would acquire Bauer from Arizona and Hultzen from Seattle. Sounds like Seattle is pushing this deal so Texas acquires Upton, which would leave Hamilton to sign with Seattle.

Because of their past, it's perfectly fine to be negative towards the Indians and their recent transactions. However, the package we would net would be incredible: 3 +++ prospects, all of which would be on the opening day roster, for 1 player who isn't a star. You're receiving Trevor Bauer (5th ranked prospect in baseball), a 21 year old FOR starter who had some mechanic issues (which by many accounts were overblown), Tyler Corbin, a 23 year old MOR starter and Mike Olt (16th ranked prospect in baseball), a power hitting 1/3B with excellent plate discipline (16% walk ratio).

3 young +++ prospects who are MLB ready for Asdrubal Cabrera, who plays a position where 4 of our top 5 prospects already play.

If you do the math regarding time frame, these prospects, along with our top prospects, will be playing at the same.

It's not only a great deal, it's the right deal. You do this 10/10 times & don't think twice. Any team would.
