Porter compared himself to Tayshaun Prince. Let's keep in mind Prince has averaged 12.6 ppg on 46/37/76, 4.6 rpg, 2.6 apt, 0.6 bpg, 0.6 spg and was drafted #23 overall . Those are not the stats you are looking for out of a #3-6 pick. If we do take him, I sure as hell hope Porter aims higher than fuckin' Tayshaun Prince.

The reality is those are the type of players available in the top 10. Not the cavs fault that the talent is lacking!
Just means you have to be more competent in making trades and signing free agents and use this years draft to get very solid role players that help you win games!

I'm not overly excited about OP's ability to become a star, but I am excited about the way he fits with this team. And especially with Mike Brown's lack of offfense, Porter is a guy who will make the right play offensively and not be a liability defensively. While his frame is similar to Prince, I think his game minus the superior athleticism is most similar to Andre Iguodola. Its just such a good fit, and we need someone who is going to move the ball, not worry about getting shots and play solid Defense. In this draft, if you get a guy who does all those things, you feel pretty good about it. Now, saying all that and looking at CG's past two drafts, it seems unlikely he will be the guy.

You have it completely backwards. Free agency is where you grab "very solid role players" while the high lottery is used to accumulate upper-level talent.

It depends on the draft. There may not be an upper-level talent in this draft, so you either take the surest thing on the board or try to hit a home run with a high ceiling guy.

I hear that his floor is Luol Deng and his ceiling is LeBron James. Maybe everyone on here is watching highlights and college games that I missed but every time I watched him I was very underwhelmed. Not to sound like a troll but I just find it funny how everyone on here is all sold on drafting Porter with people even saying that they would rather have him over Noel. Please post some videos and times in the videos where you are impressed because I am not seeing much.

Noel is my first choice too. But unless we get a top two pick, he'll likely be gone by the time we draft.

All of you guys keep acting like he is a great passer and has a "high basketball IQ" (people toss around that term way too often for me to take it seriously). He averaged 2.7 apg last year at Georgetown, while I understand that the NBA is a completely different game with more minutes and more possessions I do not see what everyone else sees that makes him some great passer. Personally I would rather have an athlete that can score and Kyrie and can pass the ball to than someone that can help create plays through his passing. If you take away Andre Iguodala's game is greatly influenced by his superior athleticism so I don't really understand that comparison.

If the Cavs believe that Porter has great upside and could be an allstar level talent by all means draft him. But the way people keep describing him he sounds more like some role player that we could pick up in free agency when we are actually making a legitimate push deep in the playoffs. I'd rather we take a risk on someone that may be considered high risk, high reward (whether that is Oladipo or McLemore etc). Assuming LeBron is not coming back we need some more allstar level players on this team not some player who just "fits well".

I mean, 2.7 assists per game is pretty solid for a college small forward who is his team's primary scorer. Also, I think the thing most people have talked about in regards to Porter is not so much his ability to pass, but his instinct to make the right pass.

Most starting PGs in college don't even average five assists per game. 2.7 for a SF is pretty darn good.

I like Porter, but don't put much credence in the assist number. He was typically taller than the guy guarding him (making passing easier), and had a high usage rate. With defenses keying on him, finding the open man 2 or 3 times a game is not that difficult.

Probably best to get out of the mindset that the Cavs have to find a star or all star with their top pick this year. That's unlikely to happen with this year's draft. There is some solid talent but the odds are against finding a big time star this year.
I'm just hoping they find someone who can have a long solid career and hopefully at least be a solid starter. I've set my expectations a little lower for this draft.
Porter may never be a star but there's enough there to indicate he can at least have a long solid career. If he has a Tayshaun Prince like career I wouldn't have a problem with that. Prince has been a good player and key piece for some good teams.

You have to try to judge each draft separately. They aren't all the same.

I see a lot of posters knocking Porter..but then all of these guys can/will be critiqued heavily because none are superstars.
What the Cavs have to do is find the best prospect they can out of this black hole.

Porter is a great fit because we don't need a ball dominant SF that is looking to score.

Dion and Kyrie will hoover up enough shots between them that we need a SF like Porter that isn't going to become dejected as a 3rd/4th offensive option.

That is part of team building. He is a guy that will be happy with that role I think, and that has to be a consideration as we already have our top 2 offensive options in place.
