jesus christ with the comic movies. Cant wait for this to end like Twilight and the backstreet boys. Yes this is the equivalent.

Nicky, pitch perfect is good.

Dave, I've seen Pitch Perfect-- did not like it. I don't like "cheesy".

There is a great deal of hype when it comes to comic book movies. They are littered with CGI and loud noises and color. They are very stale and one deminsional. When you see a comic movie outside of the theater, you see it for what it really is. The audience is always overhyped and will clap at anything.

I loved the Spider-Man with Tobey... at least the 1st one. When they do sequels and prequels.... it becomes unbearable for some. And they love to re-boot movies within a 5 year span, because they know it'll make money.

My friend and I disagree on the last Batman film. I couldn't stand it, but to my friend, it was so great. I honestly dislike the comic discussion because the movies are really so simple and don't require much thought.

How about just not watching the comic book films if you don't like them? it is a real easy solution to some feeling of over indulgence of that genre. Besides, the percentage comic book movies compared to the rest of all movies made is a pretty small percentage.

Why don't we put an end to all those movies that are made from written books? Now, that is what the vast majority of all films are. :chuckles:

its because it took up this thread for like 76 pages straight. Its fine that people like them, no problem with that at all, but if Im looking for a recommendation here and its Dr. Whoever vs. ___man, AGAIN, its not preferrable

Not really. That's more of a general public thing than an RCF specific thing. The r/movies subreddit is usually littered with updates on comic book movies for instance. They are the hot genre because Marvel has been dominating the box office and everyone wants in on what they've been able to accomplish.

If you didn't have fun watching Avengers then I am sorry because it was huge for a ton of people, myself included. It's just a bunch of cool stuff happening for two hours, great shit. Not to say it's some sort of perfect film, but it does exactly what it sets out to do. I would be amazed if you could find more than a couple better popcorn flicks.

I'm not a comic book guy at all. Never read a comic in my life, to be honest. But I still enjoy Batman and I love Iron Man and an occasional superhero movie.

Just saw The Avengers about two weeks ago and it was pretty good, I had a ton of fun watching it. Definitely not super amazing and as someone who isn't accustomed to those superhero storylines, some of it was kind of corny but...really fun movie. Definitely agree it accomplished what it set out to do.

I don't hate comic book movies. I can get in to some batman, like the spiderman movies, liked Iron Man, Avengers was just not well done.

It was an excuse for CGI, the back story sucked, did not get in to the plot, didn't feel attached to any characters, just not well done.

Saw that Captain Phillips movie.

10/10. Great acting by Hanks, specially at the very very end. I knew what happened, and I was still on the edge of my seat the entire time.

just saw gravity and it was great. It has to be seen in 3D.

As for some of the technical inaccuracies, had they tried to make them all exactly right, they wouldn't have a movie. Instead they have a fantastic movie.

Even actual astronauts who have been in space and are aware of the specific things that aren't technically accurate have high praise for the movie. For example

"I was so extravagantly impressed by the portrayal of the reality of zero gravity. Going through the space station was done just the way that I've seen people do it in reality. The spinning is going to happen—maybe not quite that vigorous—but certainly we've been fortunate that people haven't been in those situations yet. I think it reminds us that there really are hazards in the space business, especially in activities outside the spacecraft." - Buzz Aldrin

12 Years a Slave was an extraordinarily powerful film. While it was so well done, it was absolutely brutal to watch. It was emotionally paralyzing at times, in a sense that a wave of tears ran down my face and some of the imagery and sound rendered me motionless and in utter disbelief. It takes a piece of you.

If you go see it upon its national debut, good luck.

You couldn't have just figured that out from the trailers? Or the trailers from the first one, for that matter?

I was kinda hoping to get a few laughs but it was just terrible. I think I got maybe 20 minutes and decided to turn it off. At the very least the first one had traces of a story.

Don't watch this if you haven't seen pacific rim. Mucho spoilers.

Agreed. Very intense. Would give it a 8.5/10. Tom hanks is a beast. Only thing i wish was if he had interacted with other characters at the end.

I [Spoiler Alert on Captain Phillips] kind of felt bad for two of the pirates. The "Captain" Pirate, and the guy who stepped on glass towards the end. I actually read the Navy Seal book on the guy who took out a pirate. He also claims in his book he shot Bin Laden. That one scene where Phillips says there has to be another way of making a living. And the one pirate says "Maybe in America" or something like that.
