Josh Gordon was being bandied about for trades because he's allegedly in the third tier of the banned substances policy. If it's true he's in the 3rd tier, that issue hasn't magically vanished due to his impressive on the field play this season.
Let's keep some things in perspective: He had to leave Baylor due to drug use, then allegedly was going to be kept off the field for another year at Utah for a 2nd violation. Instead, he bolted to the NFL, and in less than two years, he has had, if rumors are true, at minimum two more drug violations. Now, during the season, he spends most of his time at team facilities, stays busy, and issues are less likely to come about. The off-season is a different monster. He is one more slip up away from being knocked out for a year. We are taking it on faith that he now "gets it", that he'll be smart and avoid that penalty, but the real world is filled with guys who need to really get their ass handed to them before they take the necessary steps to get their life in order. Some people never get it.
This is all to say Gordon is an amazing athlete, if he keeps his head on straight he may go down as one of the greatest ever, but assuming that he's turned that corner seems to be giving him a lot of credit he doesn't deserve. I still wouldn't be shocked if the FO trades him if the offer was right, yet I doubt it comes because other NFL teams would understand what risk they'd be taking, and wouldn't want to offer up too much value on such a volatile commodity.
If Gordon didn't have the one year suspension hanging over his head, I'd definitely consider him untouchable. But he does, so yes, I would trade him for Stafford. But Detroit wouldn't make that deal.
