Top five movies growing up eh... hmm..

Indiana Jones Trilogy
Aliens
Bloodsport
Rocky III
Vampire Hunter D

I used to watch that movie all the time. My top five movies growing up:

Back to the Future
Field of Dreams
Last Action Hero
Major League
Rookie of the Year.

:chuckles:
I must have watched that movie 20+ times when I was younger.

Top 5-
Stand By Me
Goonies
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Lost Boys
The Princess Bride

Hobbit 2 was good... Not as good as the first one, though. It's a very very busy movie, with no less than 5 different plotlines. You really have to be a fan of The Hobbit to see this film, but I certainly am. Even so, it is a loong fucking movie. I almost fell asleep a couple of times. It's not because the movie was bad, but fuck did it drag on with the action scenes. Think Man of Steel but like twice as long, and less important, almost like Iron Man 3 - but not pointless and stupid.

Overall, I enjoyed the film, but the action scenes could have been cut down considerably.

Also, Smaug.. Done perfectly. Perfectly. Benedict Cumberbatch was absolutely dynamite in the role. For anyone who has seen The Hobbit from the 80's, Cumberbatch has that exact same tonality, but much improved. Dude was very convincing.

Only problem with the film was it was just too fucking long, too much exposition, and not enough of the Hobbit himself.

Good movie though, 7.5/10.

p.s.
For those videophiles like myself, see the movie in HFR... There is a gigantic difference. Lots of people don't like it, and it's obvious why as it doesn't look like film at all, but that's the point. Also the 3D is very convincing, perhaps the best 3D in any movie to date (but only in HFR). I saw the IMAX version when I went into the other theater for awhile, as I was pissed the HFR screen was so small.. The IMAX version will likely be on a larger screen wherever you see it, but the HFR gives you a much better display. I mean, fuck, it's lifelike. Very hard to describe. Strongly, strongly, recommend the HFR 3D if you can find it in your area.

Are you a big anime movie fan gour? Never seen this one but I'm a pretty big fan of anime in general.

I'm actually not a big fan of most anime. Most anime fans like shows like Bleach, Naruto, etc.. I don't. But I'm an 80's kid, so I do like the cartoons from that era.

There a few exceptions to that though, particularly Death Note and Berserk, which are definitely shows that anybody can watch and really enjoy. Both could be made into live action television series and win awards without any changes to the story or script; that's how strong they are, even as anime.

But, Vampire Hunter D is an amazing movie, and fans of anime and people who don't like anime at all generally like the movie if they can deal with an animated film. It's not on my Top 5 any longer, or even in my Top 10, because I've gotten older and my horizons have broadened, but I mean I just watched it not even a month ago, and it was great.

Speaking of anime, oddly enough, I just downloaded and watched Akira again. Damn that's a good movie. This week I'll also probably watch Venus Wars, which is good too.

nothing but the truth - 8/10

incredibly overlooked gem. unfortunately it was never released in theaters because the distributor went under, but this deserves WAY more attention. probably one of the best political thrillers of the decade and without a doubt worth watching.

Captain phillips really fucked over his crew. Jesus.

Finally got around to watching "Inception" today. I'd give it an 8.5 Different and well done. It's actually more difficult to describe to someone that it is watch and follow. Could not place the Eames character (Tom Hardy)... had to look him up and see he was the antagonist in Star Trek: Nemesis. I like him as an actor, also Wantanabe and Gordon-Levitt always do a good job.

Dallas Buyer's Club - 8.5/10

Matthew McConaughey should have a great shot at winning an Oscar for this one. He did an amazing transformation for the movie (a la Bale for the Machinist) and it has a lot of gay people in it which the academy always loves. Overall, it was a great movie but I thought the ending kind of fizzled.

silver linings playbook - 7.5/10

pretty solid acting all around. the plot kind of tapered off a bit and it became a little too much of a rom-com, but i still really enjoyed it. probably gonna keep it around and re-watch in a few months or so.

in related news, i am now absolutely in love with jennifer lawrence.

the spectacular now - 8/10

excellent coming-of-age film that i think was much more natural and realistic than a typical overly glamorized teenage drama. the two leads were magnificent and the acting was just so fluid, at times almost as if there wasn't a script and they just did their thing. there were a few shortcomings but all in all one of my favorite movies of '13 and highly recommended.

The Hobbit - 6.5 / 10

I loved LOTR , Game of Thrones and liked the first Hobbit movie although I thought it was long, but this time PEter JAckson is really testing my patience. Sure the visuals look good and there is a rich feeling to the setup and costumes but if PJ is going to spend too much time showcasing that and slowing the movie down to a grinding halt then I have a problem cos I'm getting bored. This movie needs to be edited to under 2 hours !!!
