Sterling surrenders control of Clippers to Shelly (pg 35)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: So Clippers owner Donald Sterling is extremely racist

This is going to be fun to watch play out. And credit to all the journalists investigating the whole story and laying out all the possibilities rather than all the self-congratulating at ESPN.

Re: So Clippers owner Donald Sterling is extremely racist

Any thought to the fact that the team is owned by Sterling and his wife. In California, marital assets are divided by 50% and they are not even divorced yet. Who's to say they don't stay married just for this reason and the wife retains 100% of ownership due to her husbands stupidity. He is the one who's banned, not her...:dunno: Seems this slimeball will do whatever he can to throw up the big middle finger to the league, what does he have to lose.

Good thought, but I don't think that will work. California is a community property state, which means that husband and wife split things equally 50/50. For one spouse to give 100% ownership to the other spouse, a legal document would need to be drafted and signed. If Donald did this before the incident, there would probably be nothing the NBA could do to take the team away from his wife. However, I think it will be impossible to do this after the fact. I can't see the courts allowing it to happen.

FIGHT

Re: So Clippers owner Donald Sterling is extremely racist

Honestly, if things got bad enough, it could have brung down the entire NBA. If the players ended up boycotting, then the fans would soon after boycott and be pissed off (even though attendance in the NBA is horrible the way it is). Then all the sponsors start pulling out. The NBA isn't quite the cash cow that baseball and football are, so if it started losing all this money, it could go down. All of that potential from one stupid person.

This is why the players should have stayed in there lane there messing with billionaires. If the worst happens and Sterling can't be forced out by October and the players boycott it won't last longer than the lockout.

Certain things supersede basketball and money and this is one of them. You make a stand now and worry about the consequences later.

Everybody in the league needs to be held accountable for their actions then and not just owners. The players want to talk like this is the worst thing that's ever happened and it isn't. A player fought a fan in the stands and was only suspended for a year. This is worse then some guy saying he doesn't like black people in his own home.

And he absolutely should fight it. Probably the only wise decision he'll have made in this whole mess.

When somebody tries to steal business from you, you don't just hand it over. IDGAF who you are, how rich you are or what someone's motivation is...if you believe somebody's forcing you to make a business decision that you don't feel is right...don't do it. This is all the result of a guy making a stupid racist comment...on the phone...in the privacy of his own home... and everyone's supposed to believe he should be forced to sell his business because of that? And to believe that without questioning for a second whether the punishment fits the crime?

2.5m fine...sure. Lifetime ban...I suppose. Being literally forced to sell your company as the result of making stupid comments...not without a fight.

He's a dick, but if he does what Mannix described, I don't blame him at all.

Jarrett Jack wants players league wide to boycott if the team is still in Sterling's hands at the start of next season. Another reason to want him on the trade block.

Why? Maybe other players feel the same way. If Sterling is still the owner, I wouldn't blame the Clippers for trying to boycott either. Jack is a good guy and is standing up for himself and other players.

Re: So Clippers owner Donald Sterling is extremely racist

Sterling- an NBA team owner- privately comments that he doesn't want his sidepiece to hang out with black guys in public. 2.5m fine. Lifetime ban. Forced to sell his team.

Shaquille O'Neal- an NBA owner- mocks a deformed and disabled man on an extremely public forum. LITERALLY nothing happens.

I mean at the VERY LEAST, we at least have some cognitive dissonance over this, right? Like your gut reaction is to think to yourselves, "that ain't right." Right? And it confirms what a lot of people have known for a long time...Shaq's not exactly the nicest guy in the world.

Somebody explain the difference between these two situations to me. I'm not asking to hear for the 80th time that they had to do it to appease the black players, coaches and fans who have a massive influence over the game. I know- and we all know- damn well that's why Sterling is being punished the way he is. I'm asking someone to explain this from a standpoint of what's right and wrong...according to the precedent the NBA set last week.

I'm trying to look at this objectively and from a neutral point of view this stinks to high hell of hypocrisy.

Shaq is black it's that simple

Re: So Clippers owner Donald Sterling is extremely racist

What he said was terrible. But I've sat court side at a few games and heard worse being yelled by coaches and players to each other. I'll never forget some of the stuff I heard KG say, like Mike Tyson type shit.

Let's just keep things level. Let's be real, the best thing that could happen is he is forced to sell his team. Not by the other owners though, but by players not wanting to play for him, and fans not buy tickets/merchandise.

But we all know that won't happen.

This could get ugly.

What? Just stop man.

Shaq didn't know he was disabled. In his mind he was just making fun of a guy who took a bad selfie. I don't see a problem with that apart from the fact that he's too old to be acting so immature.
