So Long, James Jones

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Welcome James Jones

Bench guy who can hit a shot. Can be out there with Wiggins when hes at the three to spread the floor. i see all thee moves as ways to help reduce LBJ's overall minutes during the reg season. I can see them wanting him to play 30-32 mins a night.

The Cleveland Heataliers.

Re: Welcome James Jones

Well now we have 14 guys assuming we sign the rookies. Although from what I've seen of Powell (even though it is very limited action) he might not make the team. Same with Felix even though his money is guaranteed.

Obviously a Love trade is still in the cards too which would shake up the roster.

Allen can come for the vet min if he wants to.

Sounds like we are still shopping or keeping the 1.5 million of cap. I'd imagine we'd be looking for a big but the market is pretty thin there.

By all accounts Jones is a great locker room guy so that should help a lot.

He's quietly been a disappointment so far in the SL. I was looking forward to him possibly replacing Gee's role but more limited minutes. James Jones, while playing limited minutes is an upgrade over both. If James Jones is playing it means we are blowing the other team out or we're using him for his specialty which is his 3 point shooting. Great signing.

Re: Welcome James Jones

Need more shooters.

But seriously though, this guy is lights out. Probably the best shooter out of all the shooters on our team. Hopefully get gets some PT. Probably insurance for Mike Miller as well.

Guards: Kyrie, Dion, Delly
Swingmen: Wiggins, Lebron, Miller, Jones, Felix, Harris
Bigs: Tristan, Andy, Bennett, Haywood, Powell

We're really thin at PF/C at the moment. Our last roster spot, absent trade, can't be for Ray Allen. We need a guy that can play legit PF/C minutes, especially given the injury risk associated with Andy and Haywood. Allen and Jones are so similarly one dimensional at this point in their careers that I don't see a point in carrying both of them.

Re: Welcome James Jones

This looks like it's more about adding a consummate professional and FOL (Friend of LeBron). The young guys on this roster need to be around vets who know how to go about their business. Jones couldn't guard one of Dion's practice chairs. But he can hit a shoot, which is always worth a roster spot.

Re: Welcome James Jones

Unlike Ray Allen, James Jones is half decent defensively. He's not athletic, but he uses his length very well on that end (6'9" with a 7'2.5" wingspan) to bother shooters and funnel his man toward help defense. Literally all he can do on offense is shoot though, so he won't be very useful except during stretches where we just openly put the ball in LeBron's hands and ask him to go to work.

EDIT: To be clear, what I'm saying about his defense isn't random speculation. When he was younger, DX called him an "excellent defender" with "average athleticism" but "strong fundamentals." At age 34 I'm sure he's even less athletic, but his length and fundamentals should make him serviceable.

Another veteran with successful experience. He's nice injury insurance.

Re: Welcome James Jones

More so than the Lebron factor, he fits Blatts offense perfectly. Him and Miller are perfect for this young team. Let all our young talent and Lebron do the heavylifting but when it comes down to the playoffs, these two are gonna be the ones Lbj trust to splash some shit in crunch time

Re: Welcome James Jones

Is this guy still the next Reggie Miller?

Re: Welcome James Jones

For some reason I thought he was older. This should work.

His limited playing time last wasn't do to health right? I can't remember.

Re: Welcome James Jones

Wonder how good he is at bench dancing... :chuckles:

Re: Welcome James Jones

You've got to think this means Ray is out.

If we sign Harris and Powell we'd be at 14 players on our roster and we need a vet center more than anything else now.

Harris is probably going to be let go. Especially if Ray Allen wants to play here. We drafted him to shoot, now we signed Miller, Jones, and likely Ray Allen next.

I think Powell gets cut. Maybe he gets it together but as you note he has looked awful.

I bet we try to add at least two more bigs who can play the 5.
