So Long, James Jones

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Welcome James Jones

Unlike Ray Allen, James Jones is half decent defensively. He's not athletic, but he uses his length very well on that end (6'9" with a 7'2.5" wingspan) to bother shooters and funnel his man toward help defense. Literally all he can do on offense is shoot though, so he won't be very useful except during stretches where we just openly put the ball in LeBron's hands and ask him to go to work.

EDIT: To be clear, what I'm saying about his defense isn't random speculation. When he was younger, DX called him an "excellent defender" with "average athleticism" but "strong fundamentals." At age 34 I'm sure he's even less athletic, but his length and fundamentals should make him serviceable.

He'll be useful here because we've got so many ball handlers, and he can play the two or the three. You can put him out there with Dion, Kyrie, or LeBron (or any combination) and he can work as the kick man in the corner. I don't expect him to play much, but you could do much worse for a ninth man.

Re: Welcome James Jones

This guy's shoot is BEAUTIFUL. He needs no time to warm up, can can and has come off the bench and hit like 3 three's in a row. A solid pickup for the vet min and this team just keeps getting shooter after shooter. Exciting.

Re: Welcome James Jones

We still have room for Powell and Harris on the 15 man roster. Bet they both end up playing most of their minutes in Canton.

You have to know Bron, JJ, and Ray were all discussing playing together on the Cavs during their vacation. Best part of this signing is seeing the Heat fans go into a tizzy over losing another one of 'their' players to Cleveland. Turn around is fair play after they took Z from us in 2010. Hurts doesn't it?

This is all secondary to the fact that Lebron is actually recruiting players for us and Lloyd broke his first story in 6 months. Is Woj sleeping?

Yeah...in Miami, with worthless point guards like Cole and Chalmers, they couldn't afford to put another guy on the court who can't create at all. He's a much better fit here.

Harris I want to keep because all these shooters are older than dirt but Powell is on the chopping block. Both Cooley and that ginger center we have in summer league look better than him.

Re: Welcome James Jones

I love having players that can shoot a basketball.

Ray next.

and James Jones is actually from Miami himself. Man.

Re: Welcome James Jones

Ohh I can't wait to destroy my friends in 2K. All these years they've made fun of me for playing as the Cavs still.

Paybacks coming. Rainin 3s by JJ and Mike Miller!

Great locker room presence and bench addition!

Re: Welcome James Jones

Heat RealGM boards are extra salty over this one. Some highlights:

It's not the fact that he adds to that Cavs team, cause the dude plays no defense...but he turned us down for James? That stings. It'd be one thing if we didn't offer him anything.....

**** LeBron James.

I said it. I mean it. **** LeBron James.

I don't care about JJ. I care that this turd was recruiting JJ and Walter in the Bahamas while leading Riley on. Bitch.

Let me just say what HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

LeBron is trying to get Oden. You better believe it.

Now JJ/ODen might be corpses on the court next year. But LeBron is trying to raid our depth. He's going after the guys "Spo wouldnt play"

Good ridance IMO. Like many have said he's super one dimensional and rarely shows up when it matters. With the new King James shooting lights out in Summer League we'll be fine. Have fun joining that dude in Cleveland and riding the pine. Lord knows you will until the Cavs struggle and LeBron demands you play, only to see them struggle even more.

We all vent in different ways, though admittedly some vent in more mature and graceful ways than others.

Until hearing of the JJ signing, I hadn't said a negative or defamatory word about LeBron. But realizing that he had been recruiting our players while leading Riley on all this time drove me over the edge a bit, especially when you consider all the obsequious praise that's floating around about how LeBron left "the right way" this time around, which is clearly a load of ****.

Nice to see them getting a little taste of their own medicine. :chuckles:

Re: Welcome James Jones

Jones didn't get the playing time he should've in Miami.

When he was on the court last season, he was a better shooter than either Mike Miller or Ray Allen.

#NoComplaints

Re: Welcome James Jones

He's quietly been a disappointment so far in the SL. I was looking forward to him possibly replacing Gee's role but more limited minutes. James Jones, while playing limited minutes is an upgrade over both. If James Jones is playing it means we are blowing the other team out or we're using him for his specialty which is his 3 point shooting. Great signing.

I'll be blown away if Felix sticks around. Doesn't look to be good enough at any one specific thing...when you are a end of bench guy, that means you are useless.

I think Harris sticks around, as he has better size than Felix, and a better shot. Needs to be taught how to move better without the ball, but Jones, Miller, Ray should be able to help that.

Tough situation with Powell; wasn't with the team leading up to summer league, and just gets thrown on to the squad, and has to try and make it work. I think he will be given a bit more leash, unless we find an obvious upgrade, and need the roster spot.

Man, I hope we get Oden -- just so that there is a reasonable chance that one day we trot out a lineup of: Irving/Wiggins/LBJ/Bennett/Oden

That would be awesome.
