Delly going to take his spot if he's not careful :cha (28):

One thing these highlights don't show is how often he deflected passes or stripped someone. He's doing that a lot more lately (in Fiba and his few games in preseason). Was his D perfect? Nah, still has some troubles fighting through picks back to his man. Also, Jameer Nelson was just on fire. He pulled up from like 29 feet one time. Oh yeah, Kyrie had 3 blocks (though, some of those maybe more of those strips than a 'normal' block) in this game too. Can't wait for the regular season!

His anticipation looks good: he goes for and get steals while also not putting the defense back on his heels often going for them. This is a plus as a lot of guys with high steal rates don't actually help the overall team defense because they get themselves out of position.

On the other hand his man to man defense is still subpar but for the first time in a long time I thought his teammates really hurt him this game more then he hurt the team defense. One sequence came to mind when Kyrie led Nelson to his help which was Thompson and Thompson did a terrible job containing the penetration as Nelson just blew by him. Also it's a bit of whitewashing IMO to say Nelson was on fire because he got a bunch of easy buckets to get his confidence up. Hopefully this all learning a new system and things tighten up during the regular season. I'm still of the mind that we really should stagger the rotations so that Irving is on the floor when Love and Miller are out of the games. This helps the defense and also makes sure the offense has an elite shooter in the game at all time.

Sorry if this was posted a few weeks back, but I just got around to reading the Cuban/Morey story on ESPN and noticed this little gem in it. Looks like Lebron isn't our only recruiter. Kyrie was at it before Lebron even showed up.

Texas Love Triangle
How the Chandler Parsons deal escalated the intensity of the Mavs-Rockets rivalry

....Yet the most serious early interest in Parsons in 2014 free agency actually came from Cleveland. It was widely assumed in Mavericks circles that Dallas would turn its attentions to Parsons once formally eliminated as an option by Melo and LeBron, but sources told ESPN.com that Parsons -- before things really heated up with his eventual new employers -- found himself being recruited by another All-Star peer he regards as a friend: Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving.

Sources say the Cavs, furthermore, would soon inform Parsons he was "Cleveland's guy" if their ambitious bid to bring LeBron home unraveled.

The Mavs, though, finally buckled on the ninth day of free agency. Anthony hadn't yet officially let his various suitors know he was staying with the New York Knicks. And Dallas was technically still on the fringes of the LeBron pursuit after Cuban had been granted a face-to-face meeting in Cleveland with LeBron's agent, Rich Paul, just a few days earlier. But Cuban decided he could no longer stomach waiting.

Had to work and missed the game. I'm going to need full highlights, please.

For a guy with such agility and offensive skills, he's defensive fundamentals are just awful at times. Sure Derrick Rose has great end to end speed but don't help him out by not aggressively trying to get back and standing too upright in your defensive stance. Uggh: I'm hoping we're not set for a replay of last year where Kyrie would play great on offense only for the opposing PG to basically match him or more going the other. There are too many good PG's in this league and we have don't have a rim protector to erase mistakes

What does everyone think about Kyrie being ranked 23 in the ESPN rankings? He was too high last year and too low this year. I would put him somewhere in the middle.
