2014 Cleveland Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some rumors floating around Shanny is about to leave over on OBR

Last night I heard Brent Jones throwing Shanahan's name around as the ideal offensive coordinator for the Niners if they get a defensive head coach. I had hoped the lackluster end to the season on offense would have crossed Shanahan off a few lists... I guess he still has a hot name in a lateral move to a more talented offensive team.

Incidentally, I have been quietly happy local product Greg Roman is out of work. The former 49ers OC could be a nice consolation prize if Shanahan leaves.

If that's the case, Greg Roman might be the logical replacement....but I'd really prefer to keep the Z blocking scheme

Edit Nvm, Roman's prolly going to Michigan with Harbaugh

What system does Trestman run?

Might be complete nonsense but figured I'd toss it over here as well

Wonderful. New offensive coordinator, new QB, chance to move away from the ZBS... When that offense doesn't immediately pay dividends, it'll be Pettine and Farmer's time to go. Because bottom line.

What system does Trestman run?

Trestman coached Bernie Kosar in Miami U and as the Browns OC in 1988 and 1989. He is a veteran pass-first professional, great with QBs and probably better suited as an OC than a head coach. He has a long list of productive passing offenses on his resume.

As far as Roman, he is a conservative power run coach who went to John Carroll University. I'd say its a big demotion to go from the offensive coordinator of one of the NFC's top teams to a college offensive coordinator. He does have a great relationship with Harbaugh, but I'm not sure he is cemented to go to UM.

Trestman looks like he's heading to Jacksonville to take over the OC duties there.

I don't see Shanahan leaving, though.

I still believe that Haslam made the Manziel pick. Farmer comes off as way too intelligent to make a blunder like that. If the OBR rumors are true and Farmer preferred Bridge and Carr, that makes me way more comfortable about this offseason. Hopefully Jimmy realizes what a dumb fuck he is and lets Farmer move on at the QB position. I'd like to see Ray's opinion on guys like Hundley, Petty, and Grayson.

And dear Lord...whatever you do, please hang on to Shanahan.

The Browns have Shanahan under contract. They would have to allow him to go and teams don't necessarily let that happen unless they want to the guy to leave or he has the ability to move up in rank (Position coach to coordinator, coordinator to HC)
Shanny isn't going anywhere

Chip Kelly wants out of his contract with the Eagles....

That's a pretty crazy situation I'd encourage you guys to read about. The VP of Personnel had to be physically removed from the facility upon his firing... Literally.

Sounds like a pissing contest that will not end quietly. Kelly continues his pattern of volatility after leaving Oregon seemingly in the middle of the night.

Looks like 1 of 3 outcomes there: 1. Roseman (Philly GM) is fired and Kelly remains 2. Kelly is traded to another team 3. Kelly leaves for the college ranks.

This is the kind of circus I don't miss in Cleveland (for once).

Chip Kelly is the perfect example of a great football mind who would be an absolutely perfect OC, but can't get out of the way of his own stubborn ego to be a good head coach long term.

When a guy screws over his former employer, why would you trust him in his current role? Glad we avoided him.

I think everyone would say the same thing: We would love to have Chip as our head coach.

I'm sure there is more stuff behind the scenes we are not hearing about.

Perhaps, but he also publicly embarrassed the GM at a press conference essentially calling him a glorified capologist. There are better ways to handle these situations.

Philly can never seem to escape front office turmoil for more than a year or two. A problem we know all too well.
